    This video is a progress report on the twin track top sections that lead off the 16 arch viaduct. The corner sections will contain scenics starting with a town scene and then lead into a station. I will be using peco code 100 flexi track in 00 gauge. The base boards are not complete yet the still require strengthening on the underside. Each board will be modular so I can work on the scenics for each section and detail them as required. The aim is to not have any exposed wood and will be fully detailed on the underside for future running sessions

      Can’t wait to get to that point, I’m almost there now with the structures, just a few more battens to add then get the tracks down I can’t wait to have 6 running lines, then I’ll be working on the floor the other side of the loft and then add another 20ft by 11 ft of track work long road ahead but enjoying it 🙂

    The upper level looking good, I used reclaimed thin ply on my upper section it worked without issue, I had a small trim batton down both sides using brown gorilla glue and air nailer brads to hold it in place it stiffened it up and with supports never sagged untill the shed got really damp over years, good you`ve left enough width to add some scenics, I couldn`t reach mine to do it in situe

    • @HemelDownModelRailway
      @HemelDownModelRailway  Год назад

      Thanks Clive, I was a bit nervous using thinner plywood but with the right supports I’m sure it will last the test of time, I’ll add in as much battening as possible most of it will be also painted on the underside too with some wood paint to try protect the wood where possible and stop it absorbing any moisture fingers crossed 🙂

    Hi Mark. You've been a busy boy again 🙂 It looks like the top level is progressing along nicely. I'm probably being a bit thick, but I can't work out where it is going to end or come back going again? Or have I got that wrong and it is actually going to continue round at that level in a continuous circuit? All the best, Mark.

    • @HemelDownModelRailway
      @HemelDownModelRailway  Год назад

      No problem mark it’s not you, so the two main loops will link back to the viaduct, but then two lines will leave and re enter from the end sections over two levels,as I’m going to develop the other side of the loft so I’ll be adding another 20ft by 11ft again, so there will be 4/6 lines that will cover the other half of the loft, so the layout will become eventually 40ft by 22ft hope that make sense?

    Hi Mark - I have been following your progress with great interest and the layout is looking very impressive so much so that it has encouraged me to build my own layout. I have a question though, i have area in my loft aprox 3m square and i have been given some off cuts of boards of various lengths and sizes but they are 25mm (1 inch) thick can i use them and can you see any problems with using the boards will they need any support ie 2x1 along the edges?

    • @HemelDownModelRailway
      @HemelDownModelRailway  Год назад

      Hi sorry for the late reply work commitments, thank you for your support with my channel and I’m glad that it has inspired you, I don’t see there being an issue with using thicker boards, I used an old door in the past but I still put a frame on it, with the loft due to temp changes from winter to summer it will affect the boards, so I would still use a frame, one thing to possibly consider with thick boards would be if you were to use point motors and the depth you require for them, something I’m not to sure about at the moment, but if you want a few loops of track and just have the joy of running trains then there is no wrong answer and I don’t see it being a problem, please let me know how you get on I hope you manage to make a start atb Mark

      @bobcheckley6802 Год назад

      @@HemelDownModelRailway Hi Mark - Thanks for your reply and info, that was something that never occured to me about point motors something to consider. Having giving it some thought i will go with the less thicker boards easier to handle and edge them with 2x1

    @kellyashfordtrains2642 Год назад +1

    The two tracks on top of the viaduct are too close to each other. One train running on the inside, will easily knock off the train on the outside. And then you'd have a bunch of damaged models on your hands, which you won't want, believe me. The space on top of the viaduct is only big enough to accommodate one track. If you still want part of your railway up there, do the right thing and remove the outside track. Just have one track in the middle. If you can, widen the viaduct space, so the track isn't too close to either the wall or the viaduct edge. Otherwise, engines and rolling stock will get scratched, and possibly topple off. Or, if it doesn't quite work, turn it into a roadway or cycle path. I'm just pointing out where accidents can be avoided.😉

    • @HemelDownModelRailway
      @HemelDownModelRailway  Год назад

      I have a twin track viaduct that is 4 inches wide you only need 1 inch for clearance either side of the tracks I have 7-8 which is double the amount of space it will be fine I promise 👍🏻
