I had heard about these about a month ago and was really interested in trying them out, this really helped answer all of my questions, thanks for the video!
I would’ve absolutely loved these when I was a kid . The school would throw a skating party every few months . Always wanted some kind of shoe / skate hybrid . These look cool , I want a pair now too .
I think I’ll try some of these. I was worried since while I’m certainly not new to skating I never tried anything to big. But These look super convenient

Hi! How have you found the metal braces and bottom of the soles hold up after walking on them long term? As it's normal for shoes to wear down, get scuffed, holes, things get stuck in them, etc., how have the bottoms of the shoes held up to that? Have things gotten stuck, specifically in the metal, and worn down the metal so they don't attach as well? I w ant to be able to _walk_ in the shoes without worrying about scuffing and damaging the connecting points making it unusable / unsafe to use the skating portion. Thank you~
Hi, I was concerned about this too but so far I had no problems with it other than the occasional mud, but the holes are big enough that usually nothing stay in them and since they sit higher than the rubber sole, that seems enough protection from wear and tear. It is more the attach and dettach of the plate what causes some wear on the metal parts bu tthey are still working on mine :) I hope that helps!
Love this, will be buying one. Good video and demo. I also like how you took the video. What do you use for top shots, ground shots? Is there someone else assisting you?
I just got mine today, i wear a New Balance U.S. size 11 mens and ordered a 45 and at first it felt a little big (maybe half a size) but as soon as i laced up and stood on them i felt secure.
@RAGNAROLL thanks for your video, I haven't roller skated in 20 years, and had difficulty just standing still on my slades, any tips on how to get the hang off it again.
@@KJ-ek2ze that's normal, give you some time to get used to them and relearn the skater position, always bend the knees and get low for a safe stance :)
At the skateshop I'm probably going to buy them they recommend to buy a bit softer cushions, how do you feel about that? (they recommend picking PowerDyne Magic Cushions in Medium) Thanks again in advance! :-)
I don't find them hard at all, but I come from park and I like my bushing the hardest, maybe for someone coming from dancing for example they feel not so soft, but I find them ok to skate around the city really.
Yes, why not, you can learn all the basics and skate around on them without problems and they are as comfortable as a shoe, I would just recommend you to wear them tight to have good ankle support.
I already have the Flaneurz AF1's in black and I really wanted to just get the Slades shoe but that doesn't seem to be an option. :( Thank you for the review
I wanna buy these so badly just to skate around my neighborhood once in awhile. Normal skates ALWAYS cuts the back of my ankles and I don't know why. The skate shoes are always so heavy for me. I'm trying to learn how to skate so I hope these will be easier for me to use. I'm a 5.5 in shoe size but I'm really hoping a 6 isn't to much bigger on me. 😭
I don't think so, the plate seems quite strong even they are made of plastic. At least for regular cruising they should be fine, like not doing skatepark or jumps.
How have these held up after a year? I’ve heard there are some serious issues with pivot cups. And can you replace the wheels for larger wheels on these? Thanks for the review.
Yes I added some bigger wheels with rounded edge, but other than that they are pretty good, I mean, same as a regular shoe after one year of use... I only use them for transportation but in my case they are holding well.
@@RAGNAROLL thanks for the reply! I will be using them for committing to/from my bus stop and around college campus, so not super heavy use. I’m guessing they will be good for that
Nice video. I'm not sure what size to get. My Vans sneakers are all Eu43, but when i measure my feet, it's 27cm and their sizing chart says 27,2cm = eu42. The chart also says US10 men = 43. So even with the chart, there's a difference. Do i follow my shoesize 43 or the cm guiding?
The best is that you contact Slades directly. Double check you are measuring the foot correctly against a wall, but usually I would go for a 43 same as the shoes.
@@RAGNAROLL thx. I did several measurements, like you said, against the wall. But i guess 43 is the safer bet. I did contact them, but no response yet. Thx for the reply.
Did you get yourself a pair? I usually use my Mondo measurements as a guide. Shoe sizes differ, but metric measurements are constant. I have 265mm which would still be a 41 in their size chart (so 42 to be safe).
Buenas!
You cannot mount their system into regular shoes, the shoes have to be send to their shop to be modified or buy the ones they have in stock already coming with the mounting plate.
Would you recommend these for a beginner? I want to get into skating again but i havnt skated in a good 10 years or so (i was 8 and outgrew my skates) ive been looking at a few skates and these seem like my style but im concerned since alot of skaters say theyre different to regular skates
Hi, Yes right, I also thing they are different than other skates. I mean like the are totally ok to skate around, so if you plan to just skate in flat these boots when fully tight work well. But it you plan to do like longer distance, dancing, or any sort of intense skating then I would recommend you skates with more ankle support and probably better wheels. I hope that helps :)
@@RAGNAROLL can you do a video on how to do it please 🙏 I'm not very good at this kind of stuff and have ordered some Slades and would like to change the wheels and stopper eventually. Xx
Out of the box I felt the shoes a little stiff but now they feel like any regular shoes, the soles bends and they are not heavier. The are comfortable to walk.
the boots are very light, they don't feel heavier than regular shoes and with the plate and wheels attached, it is of course heavier than a shoe but still lighter than most skates as everything is plastic.
I know you covered that in the video when you got them new but after some time, have you ever tried them on a ramp or for jumping down stairs or anything like this?
Hey yes I did, but it's not recommended, the shoe are not supportive enough and the plates and trucks are made of plastic so they are not strong enough. They are good for transportation.
Hey, as you can see on the braking test the stoppers work quite well on downhill so you can roll down some hills. They are not the most stable skates but with the laces tight they are good for any situation.
