#shorts #starwars #darthvader Why Did Obi-Wan Kenobi Let Darth Vader KILL Him in Star Wars? Source: Skywalker: A Family At War Music by: @PatrikPietschmann
Funfact: Vader actually got a bit of ptsd from Obi Wan's death since he had never seen someone disappear into the force like that before and wasnt sure what happened. Additionally, given that he lost the other 2 times they fought, Obiwan giving in at the end made him feel like he had never truly won
Because even before what we now know, for some reason Vader was afraid in A New hope! He was afraid of his old master! And yet he wanted to finally prove he was the master. And Obi if he wanted too could have pushed Vader harder, but it just made more sense to have Vader ultimately fight a younger, potentially stronger Jedi! That being his own son Luke!
Tactical. He knew Luke loved him and would not leave the Death Star without him. Rather than endanger the mission by having the gang hopelessly try to rescue him (because Vader would have defeated them), he went into The Force.
Indeed. Maybe it's just me or Guinness' masterful acting, but I felt like Obi Wan knew the future a bit; that he wasn't getting out of the Death Star in his body. @@Achillusgaming
That was my thought when I first saw the movie. Luckily, the door was able to stop Vader... or was it? 😄 The plan was to let them escape and track them. Ben might have known that, too.
@@jermf35 Right. And you can clearly see Luke, in an insane rage, begin firing his blaster toward the action and hear Ben's instructional voice say, "Run Luke. Run!" It is also arguable that Ben manipulated his engagement with Vader near the blast doors in order to distract the stormtroopers from watching over the _Falcon_ . This, if I recall, is evidenced by the troopers moving toward the saber fight, away from the ship.
He really followed exactly what Qui-Gon taught him as he now does what the force tells him to do while also thinking for himself A true Jedi Obi-Wan is
Not just that, when he said “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could ever imagine.” He knew he could become a powerful force ghost.
It was also a mind game in my opinion. Vader never got the satisfaction of slaying Kenobi, or at least the way he wanted to. Another thing to make Vader suffer for turning to the dark side. Petty yes, but Vader did all of those horrible things and who took the weight of it all? It was Kenobi who felt betrayed. I think it was also a final way of saying "fuck you man"
And that's why I think he isn't any better. Sure, Obi-Wan never slaughtered children, but still. Instead to kill Anakin and free him from his suffering, he chose to leave him alone while the heat and flames burned him alive. Furthermore, instead to throw destroy the lightsaber of Anakin together with him (Anakin), he stole it instead. That's just disrespectful. No honor, no mercy, no respect. And before anyone says: "but that's not what a Jedi should do." I will say that this is nonsense and hypocritical. Dooku was one thing. Sure he lost his arms but his death wasn't necessary and I'm sure the Jedi have ways to prison and secure force users like him. So yes, what Anakin did then was wrong. However, this situation is totally different. Anakin couldn't be saved anymore. There were just two options. A) to leave him alone, let him suffer and die a cruel and painful death. B) end his life and free him from all the pain and suffering. Obi-Wan chose option 1 which is something he shouldn't have done, as it is no different than something a Sith would do. If he had really loved him like brother, he would have free him from all this pain, suffer, hate and dark feelings. But he didn't. I don't defend Anakin. His actions were disgusting, unexcusable and just cruel. Nevertheless, in my opinion, no one, absolutely no one deserves to experience such a torture which he had to experience after he lost the fight.
@@MirrorOfEmotions I remember seeing somewhere that the force would always try making the chosen one survive and not die. Also. Obi-Wan chose to leave Anakin's fate to the Force.
@@MirrorOfEmotions. Why show respect to someone who just slaughtered hundreds of people including children? Also, from the RotS novelisation, one of the reasons Kenobi left him was because he sensed the Emperor's arrival and had no time to waste descending the hill to kill Anakin. By leaving Anakin's fate to the force it allowed for the Sith to ultimately be destroyed just 23 years later. Had he killed Anakin not only may he have been caught by the Emperor, it is likely that Palpatine would have successfully achieved immortality and ruled the galaxy forever since Palpatine was only defeated because of Darth Vader.
Obi-Wan: *Raises his lightsaber* Vader: "Oh no. I'm not falling for that. You told me if I struck you down you'd become more powerful than I can imagine." Obi-Wan: "... Rats."
