The godhands are a single blade nipper . One side is a blade the other side is a anvil . I tried them , sent them back . I felt they were no better than the Tamiya 123 cutters really . They are very sharp and do a decent job , but not at morw than twice the price of the Tamiya 123 nippers . Because of the single blade design you will always have the blade hitting the anvil not completely at the edge . The blade would eventually fail . Its just a part of the game in design . Good cut for a long time vs better cut that would fail sooner
After just a few model kits both my Godhand and Dspiae have gone dull so none of these single edge designs are worth the money. I'll be testing some cheap double blades soon.
I believe the black rod on Godhand acts like a stopper, preventing it from opening too wide?
You are correct

If you read the Godhand instructions, you are not supposed to cut close to the tip of the nipper. You risk damaging them.
