I think i would keep the tin with the waterproof box and mybe add a few more things like a poncho and thermal blanket possibly a survival bivy or hammock. That would be a complete basic kit. Thats why i like your videos it gives me ideas and to further personalize based on individual preferences. Thanks bro
I would consider a tin the size of the Esee, Trangia or Polymath Products to be the smallest practical size for a credible survival kit. The Trangia Mess Tin also has a flat lid which hugely increases its practicality. A Victorinox Huntsman SAK has an excellent saw, two knife blades, scissors, etc and is an excellent addition. The saw is used single handed, far better than a wire saw, in case of injury to a hand or arm. The thought of actually cooking or boiling water on that tinfoil is ludicrous, yet most kits throw it in.
My experience with tins of that style with the seam on the bottom is, they don't hold water. That seam leaks which makes using it to boil water is impractical. That kit is impressive though.
I like your opinion on small kits. Maybe you could survive with a filled to the top molle pouch but if you're experienced and know how to use the items. But you're right about being prepared in the woods. I see people on tutorials who aren't into bushcraft and survival and they're like "you expect me to have a knife in the woods?". If you do that it's your fault lol. Love your channel and keep up the good work. You're extremely underrated.
Survival is a mindset. "Rescue Dawn" is my all-time survival movie(mostly) because real NAVY heroes always kick ass in the face of mortal danger! So it's how effective is your strategy? What do you have to work with?
Great review mate. Have you ever thought about maybe taking some of these kits out and doing a field test with them? Could be a good addition to your channel. I really enjoy the videos you make. Keep up the good work.
You could ranger band the metal tin to the outside tin.And you could include a survival blanket and a few other things too.And that way you don't lose your cooking element.Or your shelter element
I carry one of these kits in my mystery ranch bag which goes everywhere I go. I managed to add a small bic lighter plus I wrapped it with a hankerchief. It’s complemented with a self made altoids kit plus what else I carry. I love redundancy when it comes to survival kits/ backpacks.
Good job. You can get similar waterproof boxes in Walmart and I keep one in the car. A suggested item would be a cut plastic straw and to drink from the water bag. You can use it to store the “meds” you put in the kit.
Good video. Leave it to the Brits to throw in some interesting (new) ideas. Bouillon cubes? Brilliant! Condom? (hopefully unlubed) Brilliant. Tampon? Brilliant! Two suggestions - maybe an actual signal mirror and one of those fresnel lens magnifier for fire starting.. Of course a small multitool (even a card tool). I couldn't help but notice the pad from the deluxe kit couldn't fit into the case... seems odd.
I love your examination of various kits. You have stated several times that these kits are not end all and perfect , however you have also stated that these kits are only supplemental and are commonly thrown into the bottom of your bag. I believe that it would behoove you to keep these " kits " separate from your main pack and preferably on your person. Separation from your main pack ie / dumped canoe or unable to retrace steps to pack would prove tantamount. Please advise your listeners to adhere to on person carry. Thank you an avid fan.
Buy a wazoo belt also because you can get their whole essentials kit inside of it. I wear mine daily. I’m a slender guy 30ish waist and I got medium and works great for me.
Nice kit. I prefer the Survive Outdoors Longer line of gear. They have well made kits. Their survival tin is $19.95 US and it's made in America. I have custom kits all over the house and in all five vehicles. But nice kit and good video content.
i like the waterproof case but i would pack it in the tin to have a way to boil water and prepare food. wrap it with some good electric tape and it will be good enough
No blade? Add a blade (SAK Ranger would be my choice), space-blanket ‘tube’ (sometimes marketed as a survival sleeping bag). More water purification tabs. More bandages. Does the metal box fit in the waterproof one? Looks like there might be a removable insert in the orange base.
I would recommend a Gerber dime instead of the Swiss army knife. About the same price but you still have the tweezers, scissors and knife plus the pliers. You should check it out. I use mine all the time.
Thanks for the review. Enjoyed it. However 22 British Pounds for that is about 28 bucks US. I could built it for less, and have $ left for lunch, if any restaurants were open!
Another good video Eric. I like the tin and I like the waterproof box but the contents are distinctly average. As you said, nobody should trust their life with this kit as it stands.
Love all your videos and have subscribed. But it seems to me that putting the kit in your pack defeats the purpose. If you lose or have to ditch your pack you also lose the kit. That's what makes the kit a backup, not a "supplement" for individual lost/ruined gear.
Hey Eric I've been watching your vids for a little while now and I really like what you do. But on this one I noticed you said you lost the ability to cook. I'm not sure how it is where your from but in my area if you know what to look for you can almost find a large flat rock to cook on like the natives once did. Sure it might be a little earthy but it works.
Does the orange liner come out? Or is it part of the gasket? A lot of the liners are in there to cut down on rattle or for bump protection. There's more space if u can pull it out.
Is it possible that the tin was meant to go inside the plastic container ? You added some stuff, but gave up your tin for cooking and purifying water. Why didn't you remove that orange insert in the plastic container ? You would have had more room for stuff. Either way love your videos. Very enjoyable to watch. The ESEE reviews were great. Thanks for the definition of "Kitbashed". When I was young boy, (Circa 1967) I would buy 3 or 4 model cars (Usually Hot Rods) of the same scale and mish - mash the parts. Never knew I was a Kitbasher.
Buttons and zippers. I have literally never seen someone include these. I have several buttons in various sizes and a set of replacement zippers in all my kits.
I hope you didn't spend too much money on this Christmas Cracker Joke Tin...If anything, I thank you for exposing the cheap useless kits, before fools buy them...
The one item I think it's dumber than the 'must-have' bottle opener ilare those tiny glow sticks. Not enough to see by. Not enough to be visible from any distance (signaling). You wouldn't be walking more than 10 steps away from your camp at night or you might argue you'd use them to find your way back from a pee. _MAYBE_ as a fishing lure? That's a stretch though. Waste of space IMO.
This is the least impressive kit I've seen, I hope it was super cheap. Also my 2c, I'm not a fan of combination items. If you lose the whistle, you lose your fire.
It’s always interesting to see what other countries put in their emergency kits.
👍🏻👍🏻

Yeah, I plan to do that at some point. Maybe in the fall when it's not so oppressively hot here.
You could ranger band the metal tin to the outside tin.And you could include a survival blanket and a few other things too.And that way you don't lose your cooking element.Or your shelter element
Omg I’m so happy iv come across your content. I love videos like this reviewing all types of kits. Keep up the cool work buddy.
Cool enbroidery pattern on the box!

Channel’s great! Please keep it going!!
Id love to see your latest modifications
I actually like this kit.
I would love to see a beautiful HD take on the slowmo striking
Buy a wazoo belt also because you can get their whole essentials kit inside of it. I wear mine daily. I’m a slender guy 30ish waist and I got medium and works great for me.
As long as You keep the Tin-Foil in the Box, You’ll be able to cook, and boil. Best Wishes to You ALL, from Norway!😀
That's what I would do as well, but I wanted to show a different option too.
I’ll take the “tin” any day. Give me infinite supply of water and fire, and I’m good. Nice kit in original form.
Great review keep up the good work great channel
Thanks!
Tampons can also be used for its intended purpose great to have in an emergency.
You can find a tin can or a glass bottle to boil water in, actually. Garbage lying everywhere. Thanks. I was jonesing for a KS episode, amigo!
No blade? Add a blade (SAK Ranger would be my choice), space-blanket ‘tube’ (sometimes marketed as a survival sleeping bag). More water purification tabs. More bandages.

Love these videos

Gerber is bad quality , victorinox is way more reliable
Really enjoy your vids. Would like to see what you think of the Bob Cooper survival kit from Australia
Pack everything back into the tin, stick that in the waterrof box, and then add stuff around it like an emergency blanket.
The tin is too tall to fit in to the waterproof box.
Thanks for the review. Enjoyed it. However 22 British Pounds for that is about 28 bucks US. I could built it for less, and have $ left for lunch, if any restaurants were open!
You should make a video where you built this exact kit for less than $28.
Hi, yours is a very nice channel, the kind I was looking for here in youtube!
Hey, thanks!
Another good video Eric. I like the tin and I like the waterproof box but the contents are distinctly average. As you said, nobody should trust their life with this kit as it stands.
Thanks, Peter!
Great you should start making survival videos with these survival kits keep up
Love all your videos and have subscribed. But it seems to me that putting the kit in your pack defeats the purpose. If you lose or have to ditch your pack you also lose the kit. That's what makes the kit a backup, not a "supplement" for individual lost/ruined gear.
The lack of shelter is resolved by ranger banding a Mylar poncho and Mylar blanket on the outside of the box!
Love ur videos
Thanks!

Does the tin, itself, fit into the waterproof case?
That was my thought as well.
@@jamescrowe7892 Apparently the tin's too tall, Eric explains in the comments somewhere 😊
Worst case scénario just use one of the ranger band and tie Up the Space blanket on the outside of the tin
Does the orange liner come out? Or is it part of the gasket?
A lot of the liners are in there to cut down on rattle or for bump protection.
There's more space if u can pull it out.
I always wondered about the salt is it too rub in your wounds or when you get desperate to salt your grass salad?
6 month old reply but its probably to help replenish electrolytes
Is it possible that the tin was meant to go inside the plastic container ? You added some stuff, but gave up your

Hahaha those glow sticks look like they belong to Barbie
Is the orange piece at the back separate from the case or part of the case? If its seprarate i think one might be able to back more stuff.
Nice.
Not bad!
Eric, would you please put a link to where I can purchase those ferro rod/whistle combination units?
There are several companies that sell them, but here’s the first one google came up with. www.battlbox.com/products/southern-survival-fire-starter
The contents of this kit doesn’t impress me as mush as some other ones you have opened.
Mike Kennedy x
It’s cheap that’s cuz
Buttons and zippers. I have literally never seen someone include these. I have several buttons in various sizes and a set of replacement zippers in all my kits.
I got worried there wasn't going to be any Imodium when they weren't in with the ibuprofen and then BOOM. two of em
What mount do you use to get your camera angles?
What exactly is "fatwood" and how is it used? Maybe you could do a video on that. Thanks
Here you go: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatwood
Daid West channel has lots of them. very easy to understand. Collecting processing and use of fatwood. Making fire is all he does.
did the tin fit into the waterproof container?
No. I think the idea is that you remove the contents from the tin and pack them into the waterproof case.
Who makes the flint and steel, i want one, ty
Used the link to these items on amazon however everything is listed as “unavailable”. Go figure.
Sure it's on ebay
👍
How much for that kit?
The regular kit i got for about $30. The deluxe kit was about $45 I think.
Are you can survival with no food
food is actually one of the least important items in a survival situation.
😎👍🍁🌟🌟🌟🌟
Explaining to my wife why I needed to buy condoms when she is physically incapable of having children was fun.
I bet!
I have 2english are Cool
I don't think that was 550 paracord
Oh God I have to be the one to say it;
That's not a survival kit. That's a sex kit. 😳
I hope you didn't spend too much money on this Christmas Cracker Joke Tin...If anything, I thank you for exposing the cheap useless kits, before fools buy them...
The victorinox classic is useless put in a camper or something else with a saw
I’d rather have my Leatherman, a Bic an
empty water bottle & good coat - love these type of videos but these mini kits are usually kitschy
That type of container is very bad for put water inside
did you pay for that ??? ....
Condom, fishing kit and snare wire says it all. Typical fantasy nonsense. Oh, and the tin is black for minimal visibility. Great.
Thanks
A condom for water storage...🤔 hmmmmm
No knife,no thermal blanket,,so the kit just a gimmick
While most of your content is interesting. I'm just wondering why you have to show a slowed down look at the ferro/strikers on every video.
Its his style. Deal with it.
This is the least impressive kit I've seen, I hope it was super cheap. Also my 2c, I'm not a fan of combination items. If you lose the whistle, you lose your fire.
