Sorry took me forever to reply! I let my thumb focus on the bass notes and my remaining fingers to do the rest--it's more of a feel and how it will compliment the song rather than a pattern that I map out...pretty much just letting the Holy Spirit do His thing. :). I tuck the pick between my knuckle and palm but sometimes will hold it in my mouth depending on how the song goes.
