  • Leaving our camp at Gatlin Point, we travelled up the Land Between the Lakes. Passing a Buffalo herd, we turned around to check them out--they were gathered as if waiting fro their breakfast!
Next, we stopped at one of the old family cemeteries that line this area. It's always interesting and often sad, but the history in these 1800's places is revealing in its own way.
Finally, after crossing the bluest bridge we'd ever seen, we arrived at Mantle Rock. A behemoth, it's the largest arch east of the Mississippi. Made of sandstone, it towered above us--and protected us from the rain that started just as we got to it! The hike was not long and it turns out that the Trail of Tears came through this exact spot when 1800 Cherokee waited here for the Ohio River to thaw.
    Another amazing day!
Amazing things to do in Kentucky!

I think I cut Carol off when she was about to comment on that. Later on though, I didn't see any red bridges when we crossed into Indiana! ;))
