4:25 no, a concerted group of middle aged reviewers asked for more electronics, the folk actually using these bikes loved the Honda for its simplicity of repair & global parts availability. I geuss we have the Tenèrè 700 now at least, but Yamahas just not the same in my opinion.
Interesting point about the offroad capabilities, and a larger, higher, heavier tank will have an effect on the weight balance, but sometimes more fuel is needed, it's a tradeoff and fair point. But just to clarify, despite how you tune and setup the active suspension, the "base" model stil felt stiffer and more responsive?
Yes it did. I suspect the conventional suspension responds in a conventional way, one we know and feel very comfortable with. The new EERA semi-active suspension seems more plush and offers a different kind of feel, the bike almost feels to float. Very comfortable - but for press-on riding the base model feels better and more engaged. Helps that it's considerably lighter too! JB
There seems to be a common misconception of saying the Adventure Sports isn't as "off road capable" than the standard model, which is incorrect. It has more features, but those features don't detract it from being anymore capable than the standard model.
Maybe my point doesn't come across on this video. I'm saying it isn't as capable on account the suspension settings feel to be softer than the standard model and this combined with the greater mass of the fuel tank etc make it less off-road adept. It still works well enough, but certainly the standard model is the more dynamic. Absolutely! It's the 2020 Dualraid two-piece from Scott Motosports. It's actually a preproduction unit, so not in the shops yet - but coming very soon. We've had two 2018 examples of this suit and have loved them to bits, great three-season kit and ideal for the active adventure rider who gets a bit lively off-road. Highly recommended!

Hi Derek, not the wrong way around. When I tested the first Adventure Sports in 2018 I noted that while the extra two-inches made the AS appear (on paper) more off-road biased this wasn't backed up in reality - the standard model was better/easier off-road (being lighter, less top heavy etc). That continues with the 2020 models. You can check out the relevant detailed reviews - which will explain this in more detail - at www.rustsports.com Best JB
Actually they're Alpinestar Tech 7s, but they do look a little large (comes from having size 12 feet!). Lovely, comfortable and protective boot ideal for enduro. Yes, might be slightly over-clubbed for adventure - should maybe have taken A-stars Corozal boots?!
@@RustMotoCollective Dress for the ditch... (at least when going offroad) Im getting cross boots for next season...learned the hard way...although my Sidi Adventure boots saved my foot from major damage, i think cross boots would have shortened the recovery time...

Yes, that's a self-admission! Although I possibly know more than most, having ridden the old RD-07 Africa Twin a few times and tested the newer 2016/2018 ones... It's when it comes to video presentation that I really falter (JB)...
Adv bikes with crazy electronics is dumb. Lean, reliable, easy to diagnose and fix is what they need to aspire to, not starbucks cruising mobiles with integrated apps and gizmos. I personally cant wait for the trendyness and profits tank on these bikes and they start designing real old school adv enduros with only the choice updates of 2020.

No, I disagree. I've ridden 1200+cc machines into some pretty remote places (Moab/Outback Australia/South America etc) and know plenty of people who have done more. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but perfectly legit. It's best to keep an open mind.

The AS is heavier and not as nimble feeling offroad IMHO.

I tried the 700 and found it to be terrible (for me) Just bought a 70 plate Africa twin at the same price as a 700 Tenere rally !
