AZ was interviewed for the book series, *HOW TO RAP* and *HOW TO RAP2*. He gave valuable insights into his rapping style and many aspects of Hip Hop. Here he talks about rap today and in the past.
"Back in the day it was more lyrical, more conceptual. Right
now it’s more partying and sing-along songs, but it’s a different
part of the game-can’t be mad, I’m not mad at it at all, it
is what it is-[but] back then you had to be a dart thrower to

In my opinion he represents pushing through for solo, getting ur money, staying sucka free (thats why we always solo!) & getting out & going back home. Since i was young i kinda patterned my game off AZ, i reach my quota & turn the phone on DND , go home, light something & read a book or something. im pretty sure ur on that type vibe if u mess with his music to!
He represents for the people like us, that realize that TIME has MORE VALUE than MONEY! Especially when u know how to make ur money, make u money, & not in the streets! #Investing They sent $40 billion to Ukraine, that moneys getting spent somewhere in the next couple years! Do ur research my people! The middle class only exist here! & it wont be here to much longer, ur either gonna be Rich or Po! And id rather go out like Standin Up like RICH than laying down like PO!
When THEY tell u look left, look right and watch wtf is going on on that side!
We aint gaining all this knowledge just to learn about history! We should've already did that! Now its to the point you have to study just to know wtf is going on RIGHT NOW right IN FRONT of us!! #QuietMoney

MC Shinobi (Just like That/Any Day Can Be Your Last), MC Gels (Da Funkee Man(spotify/soundcloud version), Blabbermouf (FlabberGasted/step in the Jam), Da Shogunz, Ellmatic(Building up), Reks( "25th Hour"( premo beat)), Simple one (keep it live and Rapresent), Damu The Fudgemunk (normaly a beatmaker, reminds me a bit Pete Rock, very smooth shit) and Raw poetic (hole up), Man of Boom(song: catch the beat), Epidemic(Space travelin/From the beginning), Indigod (Art)... and if you dont mind about the language: French: La Base (Equilibre/Jusque a la mort) (definitley worth a look even if your not a big fan of french hiphop, cause their beats are just incredible !), Dutch: also da Shogunz crew, Hetverzet (Russian Roulette) (you probably think that it would sound weird but look it up ! its Dope), Ukrainian: (dont know the letter so here is just a song name: Тулим - Доки сили є (за уч. Ellmatic та BlabberMouf). (even if you dont like the language you should look up this track just to listen to that beat). Brackets = tracks/kind of a sound clip.

I wish Dilla was still alive, but thank God we still have producers like Premo and Pete Rock, AZ is an underrated rapper as well. 95 percent of mainstream now is garbage.

m3talh3ad123 So true. All the hard rocks, hip hop fanatics, and b-boys were making the pilgrimage to Medina aka Planet Brooklyn in the late ‘80’s/early ‘90’s while all the wonder bread kids from suburbia made west coast “Gangsta Rap” a fetish

I've followed this man since the 90's. Still to this day, this here is one of my all time favorite songs. I have a specific list. I call it my RESURRECTION MUSIC. For when I feel dead in life. It awakens my very spirit for which I am so thankful...thank you AZ. Also thankful to Nas, Rakim, the entire Wu Tang Clan (and very specifically Heaven Razah, Killah priest, Sunzini, Masta Killah), June Marx, Lone Ninja, Merc Versus, and The Roots. Just to name a few of so many. Those who keep my alive on a daily, all credit is due. 🙏
