Loved watching Paladin with my Dad back in the 60’s! Richard Boone was the perfect pick for Paladin, handsome, witty, fighting skills, and a great voice. WOW, thanks for this gem!
I was born in 1963 my papaw on my mother's side which would be her dad loved westerns him and Mimas lived right up above us so I'd walk up the path at 5 yrs old and watch westerns with papaw that would be in 68 or 69 as I am was born in June of 63 ! Id like to think we watched some of these westerns together Have Gun Will Travel !
The character Paladin is IMO one of the best western created parts I’ve ever watched. A dandy and a cowboy. An expert gun slinger and brilliant mind. The song was great too.
I'm glad you like this song" Paladin was a gun for hire but a good guy who only took a job if it was a honest one and or was for the good of mankind. The name of the TV show was Have Gun Will Travel, and still comes on regular tv every morning between 7am-10am not sure the exact time.
My wife and are old folks now. We watch Have Gun Will "Travel" in bed until sometimes 3-4 in the morning. I get jealous because she thinks is so cool, which he is. I also watch old Matt Dillion and still think Miss Kitty has eyes from heaven. Thanks, Richard and James Arness for such wonderful memories. And all the rest of many others GOOD KNIGHT AND YOU TO "Hey Boy"
Whoa, that French horn puts a chill down my spine. I hope Richard Boone can hear this from the other life and know that there are people who treasure his portrayal of the knight without armor in a savage land.
@@neroaugustus5378 It says a lot about Richard Boone's acting and his stage presence that so many people still love HGWT. He's been gone for forty years, but his legacy is still going strong, thanks to his portrayal of Paladin.
Have gone will travel was my favorite western when I was a kid. Palladin was always so cool but fair...and of course fast as lightning! This song brought back a flood of memories and I thank you for that!🎉❤❤
As a kid I loved this song and love it more now! "A Man without armor in a savage land... Country song with a French horn, so strong and beautiful! A classic forever, like the Perry Mason theme and others.
I am from the Netherlands and I am 62 years old. I only discovered Johnny Western a few years ago and was caught by the voice. "Nineteen men" was the first song I discovered from him and it tasted like more. Some singers have that nostalgic Western sound in their voices and he's one of them. For Dutch standards the band looks a bit over the top but let's be honest You get the wild west feel in no time. Great song and voice.
Paladin lives through you and all of the wonderful episodes that I watch. He was Paladin; he is Paladin, and he will always be Paladin. I am determined to do my best to keep the legend going and growing! RIP Richard Boone
I'm 42 and I love Have gun will travel. I remember watching it with my daddy when I was a child and thinking it must have been so much fun to play in the show.
Not always. Some episodes were pretty intense and dangerous. In those episodes he was extra edgy and on constant high alert. It had to be very hard on him when he had to direct as well as act. No wonder he got burned out by the end of the sixth and final season. It kind of aged him as well.
This is amazing! I Was watching Saturday morning Westerns and woke up to "Paladin Paladin where do you roam".... As usual as I do when I catch the opening of old Western TV show theme song - I jumped up and turned up the volume to full.. so catchy so great... so wonderful from a time long past when we Americans didn't realize how happy we were... United for the better of this great land. The Eisenhower years.... God Bless America.. Then I read Bobby LaVanway's note about singing along on his father's lap... I just cried... I can only remember watching Western TV shows with my Grandfather as Westerns were the "mans" TV shows and my grandfather was a great man who told me "you must always protect your mother"- and I did and still do. This live version of The Ballad of Paladin is the best because Johnny Western rocks it and the French Horn is excellent - so chilling and makes me cry for a time long past in this incredible and best country know to Western Civilization....God Bless America and Johnny Western's family. Thank you so much.
Beautifully worded. I long for a time i never got to see. I wish i could go back, away from current america. And in regards to the horn; yes, it calls to and stirs something deep within me as well
I’m 26 years old and this brought a tear to my eye! I would have loved to experience a day in those time let alone a lifetime! In my opinion you guys probably had the best time of any generation. So patriotic, the moon landing, Vietnam born right after ww2 people really loved this country back then. My dad is a boomer and I love the story’s❤️
Johnny was a DJ on KFDI when I was driving truck listened to him all the time when I was out around Wichita Ks. Some times was out there everyday. He was a great DJ had a lot of story about life on the road as a singer. Would tune him in as soon as I could in the morning a listen to him as long as I could on my way back home. The station had more power in the day than at night sometimes I could get it all the way back home. Its good to hear him again.
@@WYO_Cowboy_Joe Just a follow up the reason why this song is so important to me this was one of only a few shows my Dad and I watched together when I was young. Yes I got to meet Paladin many years ago at Dorney park. Thanks for listening.

Ah, the good old days. I now watch the show syndicated, and rehash my childhood days with my adopted girls. They love it, as I. Good memories of simpler times with wholesome shows. Fantastic! Thanks Johnny! T.M.
Johnny Western, man-o-man, what a true Legend and Talent. I used to listen him on his radio show for many years back in the 1990's, while I was in the Air Force, stationed in Wichita . He also traveled with Johnny Cash's Road Shows, for many years. And he's from my home state of Minnesota. I salute you Johnny Westerlund.
Fabulous singer Whose Ballards will stay with us and generations to come as long as they re-run one of the best ever Westerns there has been! Love It!!!
I am so happy to see the man that did this song. In the back of my mind, I suspected that that name was contrived as a "Nom de Plume", as it were, for Richard Boone. The voice was in the same caliber as Boones. I never saw Johnny Western on any of the televisions shows when I was growing up ( Ed Sullivan, Jimmy Dean, etc.) so I let my imagination run wild...lol This show was a favorite of mine and my brothers when we were kids. I still watch the reruns sometimes, great memories.
Johnny Western was in one episode of HGWT in 1958. He challenges Palladin to a quick-draw gun fight and is wounded. Shortly after Western writes the song and the producers and CBS decide to use it over the closing credits of the series which ran from 1957 to 1963. Look for Johnny in the episode called "The Return of Dr. Thackery"
I watch Have Gun every morning at 8 am. I’ve seen them all but I’ll watch em all again anyway. Just recently saw the episode where Johnny Western actually appeared on the show as bad guy.😊
I've had the pleasure of knowing Johnny for over 35 years. Used to emcee his shows around Arizona. Johnny and his wife Jo are now retired in Mesa, Arizona Great person.
Jim West. Thanks for the update. When we lived in Northfield, Mn. Johnny used to get rides home after school with my Mom. Alot of students did. I was along a few times & knew who he was WOW. What a thrill for a young "silly school girl". A few years ago ran into him again out at West World in AZ. He actually remembered my Mom & me. The next year he there again. I thought l could sneak in & just listen but he "busted me" from the stage. "His friend from Northfield" had come to see him. Great memories. Because of Defeat of Jesse James Days he brought Johnny Cash along one time also. Both were performing in Mpls. Like l said GREAT memories. Always nice.
I co promoted a Ronnie Milsap concert in Wichita about 20 years ago. Met Johnny Western at the radio meet and greet with Ronnie before the show. A real gentleman
