Of course, it is possible to count votes manually and without using machines. In my country the elections end at 8pm, 4 hours later the votes are counted so you know which parties got how many votes, at the latest the day after at 12 noon you know who got how many votes personally. Notice that the votes are on paper and the counting is done by the members of the parties participating in the elections and they are counted several times by different politicians, therefore there is no fraud

I follow these two everywhere I can. And I've donated $5 to democracy watch twice to help them fight in court. It's not much, but if everyone did it, we'd kick some butt.
We had a problem in Georgia with all-electronic voting machines, where the current governor (Kemp) was overseeing his own election as Secretary of State and the electronic data got mysteriously erased when the results were questioned. We have since switched to voting on a screen, but the machine produces a paper ballot you can check over before it goes into the scanner to be counted. That's how we were able to do both a machine and hand recount in 2020 when Trump protested his loss in this State. This method avoids questionable votes that hand-marked paper ballots always had, and paper trails are a good thing.

I am from Arizona. We have had no-excuse mail-in voting since 1991. Over 70 percent of registered voters are on the permanent vote by mail list. For three decades, Republicans have had no difficulty in getting elected here. To vote by mail, you need a paper ballot. You also need tabulating machines which can run high-volume batches of ballots. Each precinct also has a machine which tabulates the (also paper) ballots from the 20-something percent who vote in person. Kari Lake may hate those tabulating machines but she forgot something. We have the original paper ballots which can be (and sometimes are) hand-counted to confirm the races which are extremely close. We can PROVE that the machines have accurately counted the votes because we can check those results by hand. Also, does she expect us to believe that every other race and issue in the election was counted correctly except HER race? It strains credulity to claim that the voting machines miscounted only a single item on the multi-race, multi-proposition ballot. Kari Lake is a joke and the longer this goes on, the less electable she becomes. Our tabulation machines are just fine.
We have mail-in voting in Germany and we don't have electronic voting machines. I was responsible for the student council vote at my alma mater for a few years. All mail-in votes, counted by hand. The council votes were annoying in that regard (22 votes for like 60 candidates), but even that is not that difficult. Let's face it, many parliament votes are single vote only. So with a well organized system you need less than a minute per mail-in vote: opening the envelope, ticking off the voter register, placing the vote in the vote box, later separating the votes by result, counting the result. A voting district in Germany covers around 250,000 citizens. If you want to do the counting in 5h on election day with 1 minute per vote, you need a thousand poll workers. In practice, the hard part of the work can be done in advance (Preparing the mail-in votes) and you need a tenth of the work force.

This is the main way that we vote in this state. A more populous state like California or New York has even more ballots to count. Hand counting over 100 million ballots in this country just isn’t an option. In my state alone, the ballot contained not only multiple different races from city council to state legislature and national races for both houses of Congress plus the presidency. We also had ballot propositions like local bond campaigns to raise money for certain projects, plus citizens can propose new laws (like legalization of cannabis, or a sales tax to fund a specific need like upgrading state parks). On top of that, we have the ability to oust judges who are perceived to be corrupt or really bad at their jobs, so we need to vote yes/no on retaining every single judge at a certain level in the state. The ballot is huge and usually covers the front and back of the physical paper - which can vary in length depending upon need. Hand counting anything other than the races with extremely close results just isn’t practical.

Re hand counting. I am Canadian. I have worked in the polling station in a VERY small community. 400-500 people. Ballots are hand counted here. I have seen it take us well over an hr just to count those few ballots. Every one has to be counted and recounted. To think it possible to do this in a country with the population that the US has, in one day, is ridiculous .

One way out is to adopt a British law: if you sue someone and lose, you are required to pay all court costs and attorney fees for the person you sued. Frivolous suits would quickly become a thing of the past.

I am from Arizona. We have had no-excuse mail-in voting since 1991. Over 70 percent of registered voters are on the permanent vote by mail list. For three decades, Republicans have had no difficulty in getting elected here.
To vote by mail, you need a paper ballot. You also need tabulating machines which can run high-volume batches of ballots. Each precinct also has a machine which tabulates the (also paper) ballots from the 20-something percent who vote in person.
Kari Lake may hate those tabulating machines but she forgot something. We have the original paper ballots which can be (and sometimes are) hand-counted to confirm the races which are extremely close.
We can PROVE that the machines have accurately counted the votes because we can check those results by hand.
Also, does she expect us to believe that every other race and issue in the election was counted correctly except HER race? It strains credulity to claim that the voting machines miscounted only a single item on the multi-race, multi-proposition ballot.
Kari Lake is a joke and the longer this goes on, the less electable she becomes. Our tabulation machines are just fine.
We have mail-in voting in Germany and we don't have electronic voting machines. I was responsible for the student council vote at my alma mater for a few years. All mail-in votes, counted by hand. The council votes were annoying in that regard (22 votes for like 60 candidates), but even that is not that difficult.
Let's face it, many parliament votes are single vote only. So with a well organized system you need less than a minute per mail-in vote: opening the envelope, ticking off the voter register, placing the vote in the vote box, later separating the votes by result, counting the result. A voting district in Germany covers around 250,000 citizens. If you want to do the counting in 5h on election day with 1 minute per vote, you need a thousand poll workers. In practice, the hard part of the work can be done in advance (Preparing the mail-in votes) and you need a tenth of the work force.
Yes, this, apparently she was the only one wrongly tabulated. I have said this about all of the deniers, and am embarrassed by the nonsense that Arizona Republican politicians AND others who should not be anywhere near our voting process (like mining our data, removing to another state, etc.). I haven’t forgotten what they all did in 2020, and will vote blue CAREFULLY - sadly got fooled by Sinema.

@@joergsonnenberger6836 if Arizona hand-counted all the mail-in ballots, it would take forever. For the 2020 election, there were more than 3 million ballots. This is the main way that we vote in this state.
A more populous state like California or New York has even more ballots to count. Hand counting over 100 million ballots in this country just isn’t an option.
In my state alone, the ballot contained not only multiple different races from city council to state legislature and national races for both houses of Congress plus the presidency. We also had ballot propositions like local bond campaigns to raise money for certain projects, plus citizens can propose new laws (like legalization of cannabis, or a sales tax to fund a specific need like upgrading state parks). On top of that, we have the ability to oust judges who are perceived to be corrupt or really bad at their jobs, so we need to vote yes/no on retaining every single judge at a certain level in the state.
The ballot is huge and usually covers the front and back of the physical paper - which can vary in length depending upon need. Hand counting anything other than the races with extremely close results just isn’t practical.

Re hand counting. I am Canadian. I have worked in the polling station in a VERY small community. 400-500 people. Ballots are hand counted here. I have seen it take us well over an hr just to count those few ballots. Every one has to be counted and recounted. To think it possible to do this in a country with the population that the US has, in one day, is ridiculous .

One way out is to adopt a British law: if you sue someone and lose, you are required to pay all court costs and attorney fees for the person you sued. Frivolous suits would quickly become a thing of the past.
That already exists in the American legal system. What America needs is an effective method to quickly remove corrupt justices.
