  • In a recent video we removed an old CPU tower cooler that had seen better days. Today we are taking a look at how we can clean it up and upgrade it by adding fans to it without the original clips in a clean and tidy way.

    This upgrade will work for most tower coolers and as we have shown with both a single or dual fan setup. We actually liked the results so much we may just get rid of using the clips altogether on others. If you do this let us know how you got on in the comments below and don't forget to check out our discord community here: discord.com/invite/Dx7xZt5MHF

    Nice buddy. Cable ties are great for PC building situations like this. I've had my 30mm thick Arctic fan cable-tied to a cooler for over a year now (had no choice as clips wouldn't have worked anyway). But it makes for a clean look & boosts the cooler's performance when you upgrade the fan from the stock one on a budget cooler (as I did).

    Nice trick. The only thing we should consider in this case is : imagine the melting point of the plastic substance on the heating metal. Nice plastic black sauce on spicy metal

    • @TechLabUK
      @TechLabUK  6 месяцев назад

      If the heatsink gets hot enough to melt ABS plastic then the fan falling off is the least of your worries tbh.

      @@TechLabUK yes that is true. But how about an evo 212 black edition with a volcanic amd fx 9370? The cpu operates OK with one fun but I want to improve the airflow.

    • @TechLabUK
      @TechLabUK  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Gizmapps It still wouldn't matter. It takes a lot of heat to melt ABS plastic, nothing a CPU should be able to put out especially when you are attaching it to the heatsink and not the CPU itself. Also remember the fans attached are actively cooling everything connected as well.

    • @TechLabUK
      @TechLabUK  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Gizmapps Just for reference. Cable ties are most commonly constructed out of what they call Nylon 6/6 which has a melting point of around 265 degrees C. If your heatsink is able to get to 265 degrees C then your wouldn't be worrying about cable ties tbh.

    • @TechLabUK

      You can run them how you like but remember to run them the same speeds / curves. The easiest way is to yes, daisy chain them to the same header.

    • @whatsupchicken
      @whatsupchicken 11 месяцев назад

      @@TechLabUK Thank you! Do you think it makes sense to also plug the pc case back exhaust fan to the CPU header so it also spin up when the CPU needs more cooling and all together helps to make greater airflow?

    • @TechLabUK
      @TechLabUK  11 месяцев назад

      @@whatsupchicken Na, the rear will be fine on a chassis header as it's drawing air from the whole case usually.

    • @TechLabUK
      @TechLabUK  Год назад +2

      They wont melt on this, the CPU cooler wont get hot enough. To remove the fan afterwards you simply cut the ties and replace.

    • @chessusthemyth

    Hey bro, i’m using a pure rock 2 fx on a i5-13600kf, I made a mistake by not checking the cooler’s TDP which is 150w, and cpu boost clock is 181w max, I’m mostly using my system for editing and mid-high setting gaming, would adding another fan to this cooler help with cooling performance/overall temps?
