  • In this video, we’re walking you through how to cook mussels from start to finish, everything from choosing the right ones to cook to knowing exactly how long to cook them for.
    Cooking shellfish can seem tricky, but mussels are actually one of the easiest and most sustainable, protein rich dishes you can make, whether you’re cooking for yourself, a partner, or the whole family. It’s a simple, one-pot meal that’s delicious.
    This is a bit of a go-to for the kids, just because it's messy. Its a fun way to let the kids engage with more challenging ingredients.
    A couple of key things to keep in mind in this recipe;
    Get your pan nice and hot - This is key. When you add the liquid, you want it to create steam right away. Steaming mussels, not stewing them, helps keep them plump and juicy.
    Don’t overdo the salt - Mussels have a natural saltiness, and since we’re adding bacon to the recipe, be careful not to go overboard with salt as you cook.
    Check the mussels before and after cooking - If any mussels are open, give them a tap. If they close up, they’re good to go. If they stay open, bin them off. Same goes after cooking, if they’re still closed, it’s best to discard them, just incase.
    This is a great recipe, the bacon and clotted cream really give the mussels a nice full flavoured sauce.
