Anyway I hate the people that says that Bridget can't be trans because in Japanese there isn't a word to call trans people. Because obviously there isn't a word to call forklift in Italian so this means they don't exist in Italy
It's also entirely BS. Like with many LGBT things, the "Japanese" word for it is... The English one. Almost as if that's, _how that language deals with words that don't neatly fit within their linguistic restrictions._
That's bullsh*t coping With Arabic language we don't have an arabic word for "traffic light" so we literally just call it "traffic light" with a bit of an Arabic accent lol
Bridget is so popular because her colour scheme is similar to the Finnish flag and as we know with her coming out as trans her character arc was Finnished.
I gotta say even as someone who isn't trans, Town inside me is so good and still hits me in the feels because in more of a general context it can be taken as finally pushing out the criticism and fear and being/doing whatever you truly desire, which is a freedom that all people (guilty gear) strive for and that's what makes it relatable E for everyone.
I think this game can help us all learn to (Guilty Gear) Strive for what WE personally want. Thanks Daisuke I think we all need this. Culturally universal theme right there.
The message of the song being to leave the comfortable ambivalence where you feel safe and actually live your life & risk pain is both a really good trans narrative and a really good narrative in general.
I think the reason why Brisket can wear the shackle comfortably is because she's always doing the shiggy wiggy and basically hoola-hooping all the time, similar to what Jack-O does with her Halo. There are some shackles that just can't be broken, but we don't have to let them fully control us
And then there's me who wanted to point out that shackles are usually 2, and this is only one broken shackle, representing that she isn't influenced by her family or village and she has "broken" the shackle with her brother no longer being influenced by her brother's gender because of a curse. But it also represented that she was trapped in a choice of who she wants to be (until now) soo maybie no more shackle in the future?
@@Pikachu-Yumekichi or, mabye the shackle will be modified into other parts of her outfit, to show how her history is a part of her, and has been broken down, her choice to accept herself taking center stage, but her past being just as important to how she got where she needed to be.
Part of what I really like about Bridget is that it's a much more complicated take on a character being trans. She realizes something about how she's been living and identifying doesn't agree with her inner life, but it's not as simple as just coming out. Because it never is. There's always stuff tangled up in it - how to talk to your friends and family about it, how to reassess who you thought you were... and for trans women there's often the struggle between wanting to embrace femininity, but not wanting to reinforce a rigid interpretation of what it means to be a woman. That's what I see in Bridget's internal struggle: she's afraid her whole life up to this point will have been for nothing, that her hometown will devolve into a superstitious mess again if it turns out she was never a boy to begin with, since the whole superstition about twins was based on both siblings being the same gender. She's afraid of having to start over, of having to choose between being true to herself and being true to what her life has been all about so far. But in the end, she chooses to risk giving her village a reason to revert to their old ways, because it's better than her having to live a lie.
Forgot to mention they finally gave goldlewis some development in Bridget's arcade mode by implying his failed marriage because he is gay and he didnt want bridget to commit the same mistake
While I wouldn't mind if Goldlewis is gay; I think it's more that he's angry that his job drives a wedge between him and his family. He hates the system, hates the bureaucracy, but he wants to change it, but he can only do it if he's part of it. So either A) He puts his job first over his family, a job that he hates, that he doesn't want. Or B) His job endangers his family, so he needs to keep them at a distance to protect them. Though if he was gay... God, I want that polar bear man meat all over me! Leave the Coffin door open so the cryptid can watch...
The real problem with Bridget isn't that she's British. It's that Arc *never explained how there's a town inside of her.* Only kidding, Bridget is awesome and I love her.

@Simone Bellomonte a bit late but this is an actual sprite of Dorothy Haze, a character from videogame VA-11 HALL-A Cyberpunk Action Bartender, she's kinky but somewhat lovely too
Im really glad you point out that the way Bridget changes in real time makes her human. One of the most common dipshit arguments I hear is "it goes against the original intention and idea of the character" fucking and? Shit changed. It happens. God forbid a character changes at all through a story, I love my 0 dimension characters that do fuck all. Like, Dante was originally meant to be an edgy cringey emo dude who was always miserable, and now he's the so called "wacky woohoo pizza guy", just because it goes against the original intention of the character, does that make it bad? Fuck no! Hell, an example closer to home, Faust. He changed from the original view of the character into a goofier guy, and then changed back again going way back in the opposite direction, but you don't see people yapping about "It goes against the original intention for the character." And, as you said, it just makes them feel more human.
A lot of people saying "it doesn't make sense because she used to try to prove how much of a man she was" as if being in denial is not intrinsic to the trans experience
Also she literally wanted the village to accept her as a boy so her parents could stop feeling guilty. The fact living as a guy was always about pleasing OTHER people and not her wanting it for herself is pretty trans.
I completely agree that her transition happening on screen is part of her popularity. It's relatively common for media with trans people marketed to a general audience to just not show any self discovery, and that leads a lot of people to think it doesn't happen. I spent so long thinking I wasn't trans because the trans people in the media I consumed always knew. Coming-of-age trans stories are now my favorite genre
I like stories with sincerity and honest care behind them. :) This isn't one of them. He was trying to prove he's a man. He didn't. He was trying to prove his village curse wasn't real. He didn't. He was trying to look for his long lost brother. What the fuck even happened to that? Now, he's just a character who's whole existence is "I'm trans!" and that was his WHOLE storyline in STRIVE. In this shallow, fuckfaced mess of a game. A series that was unique, sacrificed into being a generic anime fighter. Know why people didn't complain about Venom being gay? Because it was done tastefully and felt authentic. Know why people complain about Bridget being "trans"? Because it was done manipulatively and to feed on people's wallets.
@@elecbaguette So stereotyping justifies that? The reason I complain is because this company has done nothing but lie, be manipulative and tricks people constantly into buying this game. Did any of you LISTEN to my reasons? No. So these individuals claim "bigotry" as an immediate response, which is just as bad as the people that categorize them. Because everyone is now "this" based on an assumption and nothing else. Here are some of the experiences I've had with Bridget's defenders and reasons why I honestly think you're all being played. 1. "The character's story in XX isn't canon!" Straight up, a few people have said this to me. The CHARACTER was INTRODUCED in XX. That is such a desperate reach. 2. "You're transphobic". Because of a video game character in a game that lies all the time? Such as stating that STRIVE "retains the depth of Guilty Gear" when you can't do half the crap you could in XX or XRD off of a single move? That is the literal definition of depth. You can only use a move in so many ways. Even the mechanics don't help make up for how much you can do with a move besides usually having a straightforward high/low game in a series that wasn't straightforward very often, even with characters like Ky or Sol Badguy. 3. "Daisuke said", Daisuke says a LOT of things. He said that he's experimented with Gold Lewis and found a LOT of unique options and creative gameplay strategies. However, I have yet to see this from even PRO players. He looks like the same shit he has since his release, which is no surprise since the rest of the cast is like that. There's been no dramatic change. The guy just says that to make people feel special about learning his half assed game that's selling for money. But yeah, it's an impossibility that people can get super rich from lying, scamming people, or corrupt means. THAT'S never happened before. 4. "There was a translation issue because-", no. There wasn't. I asked people from the XX community who live on Japan (through online means) whether or not there was a mistranslation in Bridget saying he was "manly". They said "No. There was no mistranslation. It was pretty straightforward. The character claimed to want to be a man." 5. It completely contradicts the original story intent for the character and does so in a way that kind of just completely destroys the original concept of the character and proves that the character was wrong and is an idiot for having set out to prove their village wrong. Ultimate, the village is right now. Fuck Bridget for trying to be his own person, cause if he wasn't a woman, that curse would have destroyed his village. But now he is! Meaning they win, they were right, we can never know whether or not the curse exists now cause it doesn't matter. Bridget loses. 6. "Trans rights are a risk!" I have never ever ever ever seen a DLC character in any fighting game ever get the ratings that Bridget has. And it's not because of the character's gameplay, because they're fun, because of how the function when you pick up the sticks or a controller. It's legitimately cause they're trans. Straight up, every review on steam says "Brisket!" or "Finnish flag!" or "Trans!" Almost NEVER mention of the character's gameplay which is the NUMBER ONE component to me playing a character in a game personally. But it's such a huge risk... Please. 7. There's always an excuse. I know a person in the XXAC+R who is trans. Post operation. When I asked what they thought of Bridget being trans in STRIVE without even giving my opinion, they took the words out of my mouth as if reading my mind. "Oh, Bridget being trans is just a shameless cashgrab to get money from a hot topic. He just did that to get people's attention and money." It was something along those lines. But apparently, it doesn't matter if you're trans. It matters if you're the majority of people who are completely ignorant about this series' history and how this company functions. These people who do 0 research and are told what they want to hear, know better. It never mattered if a trans person who legitimately went through the operation says so. It matters that you only agree with THIS side or get fucked. 8. The Bridget being trans thing has divided more people than it has brought together. I don't mind trans people and respect their rights, however, this has done the opposite. I have met people who are trans and care 0% about Bridget. It was soooo refreshing. It made me realize that Bridget fans are the problem and they're just desperate jerks who will become the people they most hate by labeling them without even hearing them out or letting them express themselves. They are a shame, just as STRIVE is in general. "Depth", "Gender appeal", "Adding new mechanics that existed in the past games but are now more braindead than they already were". Do you know why Leffen does well at STRIVE? Cause that game is made for snakes.
@@Siberianhusky89 Wow, you assumed a lot when I only said it's usually bigots. I have no issue with you, and I can see your point and mostly agree with what you're saying, however from the comments I've seen, it IS usually hate towards trans people that fuels their hate towards Bridget. Not any good reasoning like what you just showed me. Maybe it would help if you made sure the people you're arguing with know that you don't want all trans people dead. Personally though, I think it's great that non-feishized trans identities can now be inserted in media for money. Means it's more normalized, and less people would afterwards think being trans should get you killed.
@@elecbaguette I apologize. I didn't mean anything by it. It just seems ridiculous often times to even make any point. There are as many people who think Bridget is a cash grab cause they actually have been fans for a while. But we're treated like idiots despite having more knowledge about the series. My biggest upset with STRIVE personally is that it's just another boring, generic anime fighter now. There are no more fighting games left that experiment the way that Guilty Gear use to and the most innovative fighting game of this generation is Street Fighter 6 which is disgraceful. And the first impulse I normally get is to get "baited" into being "transphobic" because I think Bridget being trans is stupid and Arc System Works has become a bunch of creepy assholes who feed on people's insecurities.
I actually discovered Guilty Gear itself through Bridget, when I found out about her I was going “she just so much like me fr fr” for over a month on repeat (currently ongoing I’ll get back to you when I’m done fr fr’ing) She’s trans, I’m trans. she’s British, I’m British. She likes to dance on the spot during mental breakdowns, I like to dance on the spot during mental breakdowns. She’s simply so damn relatable that it’s unbelievable that she is a real character.
You are such a mindless zombie. This character is a he. The only reason Bridget was made "trans" is to cash in on people like you. There's no sincerity behind the character being "trans" except to cash in on hot topic just so dips like you can fall for it. There are WAYYY better pieces of representation than this half assed story that's ONLY focal point is "Bridget trans. It's a big deal! Look at it! LOOK AT IT! TRANS!" There were at least THREE major plot points to Bridget in XX and some of them were not even FOCUSED on his gender identity. But that was the ONLY focal point of Bridget in STRIVE. Neo-Bridget fans are the WORST!
@@Siberianhusky89 "Wdfhgvdghfdvcs WAGH WAGH, LOOK AT ALL THIS STUFF I MADE UP!!! I'M RIGHT!! I'M RIGHTY! THE GAME IS WORNG AND NOT ME!" Shut up about your delusions. You have never played Strive or even looked up her scenes in it. Nothing you just said had any basis in reality and also no, she didn't have some big plot in XX. She was a joke character. Her entire story was she was gullible and got tricked by I-no and by the time she went to do something that wasn't part of that it was too late for it to matter. Did you even play XX? God, you tourists need to stop learning everything from memes and fan fiction.
Like Bridget's story as always been about her identity to an extent, and having to *PERFORM* it, she initially HAD to be a girl to not be slaughtered by her village, and then she HAD to be a boy to disprove her village's *STUPID* superstition, and after that she disappears for 6-ish in universe years and about a real world decade before she appeared in another game and they decided to continue her story of identity by making her Trans! The way the story is setup she actually could've doubled down on the masculinity, but she chose girl, so girl she is! (but ew bri'ish...)
... I really hate your explanation here. So tell me this Mr. "Oh, Identity :B". What the hell happened to "her" trying to find "her" twin brother? Is that just retconned out of the story? Was he spending his whole time wondering his gender identity instead of focusing on that goal which just vanished into thin air? Or is Daisuke just trying to pander to you low lives?
@@Siberianhusky89 I mean, her brother went to look for her while she was out bounty hunting and then she arrived back at her village in the mean time, making him I guess technically lost, but I'm sure he was found somewhere in those 6 years it's not as if he was kidnapped. Believe it or not but, despite it all, Bridget's brother is an unnamed character with no official design, we don't really need an update on him when it's easy to infer that he was most likely found in the mean time.
@@yosha101 I apologize, but that is shallow story writing. Deliah was never given a design in XRD. Now the new game comes out after treating Bedman was treated like complete trash in XRD story-wise, gameplay-wise and balance-wise. Even his stage got turned from interesting into a desolate, forgettable mess of sand. So you're gonna tell me the brother who went missing for years just got found magically without any mention? That is bull. Next, you're gonna exclaim that Testament is "non-binary and it was hinted at heavily", no. I'm done with Daisuke's bullcrap. When they were designing Testament for STRIVE, the early designs were EXTREMELY masculine. He was very muscular in comparison to how he is now. You're going to tell me that wasn't just some kind of bait and switch to test the waters? I mean, how much of a risk was it to make Bridget trans considering how much applaud they got for making Testament masculine? Are you people that fickle?
@@Siberianhusky89 Delilah at least got a name and she was shown being awoken in Xrd, so she was at least hinted at having *some* future relevance. Also, I like Bedman in Xrd's Story and Gameplay wise (His unfortunate balance murder in Rev2 aside). Also, Testament has always been fairly androgynous, with female-ish and male-ish voices with designs that can go one way or the other throughout their appearances, and it was nearly 15~ years ago that Daisuke said in an interview said that Testament merely transcended such labels, Testament is only Non-binary because... they don't fit the binary, I'm sure if you we're to ask Testament they'd just say that they are themselves. We only got the early concept art for Testament AFTER Testament was revealed, there was no testing the waters and no applause for an extremely masculine (which they even weren't, they were just REALLY buff just like everyone else in Strive) Testament. And making Bridget trans isn't a risk dude. (Edit: Also, yeah, it *IS* shallow story writing, it's Guilty Gear, unless your name is Sol Badguy or you aren't *DIRECTLY* associated with him all you get is a few peanuts of story telling. Potemkin hasn't done anything ever since got his revolution in Missing Link)
@@yosha101 Well man, I'm just saying. You said yourself, Bedman got butchered. He was one of the more oddball characters in XRD and the character got botched to hell by the time REV 2 came out. Does THAT sound like someone's trying to make you feel okay with being unique? STRIVE went to being a basic, traditional fighting game despite the company saying they were "Trying something new" and got rid of every unique quality that made Guilty Gear what it was while replacing it with absolutely nothing. Does THAT sound like someone like me or other Guilty Gear fans should be "okay with being unique"? Cause it more felt like a "Fuck you for liking what you like. Get over it, there's gonna be no more of that." just for a typical fighting game with shiny graphics. Does THAT make it sound like I should be okay with being who I am? Bridget being trans divided people. I have even met someone in the XXAC+R community who is straight up trans. I mean, they actually went through the surgery (Which most trans people don't even do) and without me saying anything, they said "Yeah. Bridget being trans in STRIVE is just a shameless cash grab. They knew it would sell and it did." Are you gonna shame THEM for that opinion? Someone who was brave enough to go under the knife when most won't and just cry about Bridget being trans "Because"? Not to be mean. You have been quite considerate when we have talked and I do appreciate you for that. It's just, STRIVE does everything but make everyone "feel okay to be who they are". Using myself as an example, I feel like I never really fit in, I am a weird person and don't know why, I like a lot of things most people don't and to me the game felt like a "Fuck you for that. Stop being who you are. Stop enjoying what you like. Deal with the fact that you'll never get what entertains you anymore. If you aren't part of the majority opinion (Who generally has a lot of the same opinions), then you're garbage." Is THAT the message of uniqueness people stand for? I liked the game cause it offered an experience most fighting games didn't. I know people who only got into the series cause it was a freebie way into the FGC. Nothing more. Is THAT the idea of being okay with yourself?
@@LunaGropeAnnelotte That's not really the case.Within strive Bridget accomplished the goals they set out in the previous entries of GG becoming a well renounced bounty hunter and having their village including their parents view them as male the problem comes after Bridget has accomplished this they still uncomfortable with their gender identity. Their story has to do a lot with strive's message that of finding your own path and being true to yourself I feel as if though your comment discredits that in order to paint a more sinister narrative 🤨
@@SinclairLockeBridget spent a good chunk of their life away from the village becoming a bounty hunter and being more perceived as a guy if you completely ignore the story of the GG games then yeah I guess you're right but again that's not the case social expectations wanted Bridget to be a boy after they completed their goals even having their parents pressure Bridget into getting rid of their feminine clothes so they can be seen as more masculine
I also get extremely mad when people suggest it’s a retcon. It’s not a retcon. A retcon would be like, “oh, the Lich King (from Warcraft) was actually the pawn of a mystical magical death god called ‘the Jailer’ the entire time, and everything that happened was actually all a part of his plan the whole time and we totally always knew this was the case and we’re not just making this up now.” Instead of, “Arthas used to be blonde and use a hammer and he used to be a Paladin and a good guy, but now he’s got totally white hair, uses a sword, and is a death knight and bad guy.” You don’t get mad at Warcraft III’s second chapter like, “YO WTF THEY RETCONNED ARTHAS ALREADY?!?!” It’s called a STORY. CHARACTER PROGRESSION.
I think the biggest gripe, bad apples aside, is that none of that is shown in prior games/media. Of course you could make the argument of it being a natural mindset, but these are ultimately literary characters. Add to the fact that Bridget is basically a side character and skipped being in xrd, the "retcon argument" starts to make more sense. After all, if a character revelation as big as that doesn't happen onscreen, potenial backlash is likely to occur, especially heightened by her (initial) gender being the reasom Bridget got so popular. Even Daisuke himself had* to intervene in establishing gender through word of GOD because, once again, there was no real media you could point to stating otherwise. Using your Arthas example (which drew me to this comment in partcular), Arthas had a whole story drawn out in WC3, and his transition into a death knight was shown in full. If Blizzard had just suddenly skipped the village killing mission, it wouldn't really make sense. Using a contrast of Testament, them being NB was established in a niche arcade game, and in +r, well, despite being more masculine there were definitely NB aspects in it. Like, the seeds WERE THERE, hence the lack of backlash. To clarify, I do agree in Bridget being trans, but due to said factors above, well, it definitely took me a while to fully accept.
I’m a trans woman Madeline from Celeste actually inspired me but seeing brisket and her story be so beautifully done made me so happy im so glad she can be such a good inspiration to Trans people. Good representation
Don't you DARE compare Madeline from Celeste to this shameless, filthy cashgrab. Madeline had heart and soul behind them. Bridget being trans was just to pander to people so you would buy their game and to create controversy for the sake of money! One is art and one is a shameless cashgrab! Delivered beautifully my ass. Not only does it completely contradict his story in XX, but the ONLY story Bridget had in STRIVE was "I'm trans". THAT'S it. NOTHING else alongside it. It was THAT one dimensional. It was the ONLY focal point. There were SEVERAL points to Bridget's story in XX besides just their gender identity.
@@Alice-May Sure! Bridget was born in a village where if two twins of the same gender are born, the village will face a terrible curse. So Bridget's parents force Bridget to be a girl to appease the village curse. Bridget is not happy with this growing up and sets off to disprove the village curse by becoming a bounty hunter by proving his manliness. (This is literally the introduction of the character. I mean straight up, this is how the character first appeared in the SERIES) Bridget then figures out that his brother has been missing for a long time and searches for him along the way. He continues his journey as a bounty hunter. (This was never resolved cause apparently, it's no longer important since the character's main focus is being bred trans). Bridget finally thinks "I'm okay with being a man and don't need my village's approval!" Oh, want +R's story? Cause none of that was in +R. Bridget sets out to work at Jam's place or whatever in order to make more money. My issue isn't with trans people. My issue is that STRIVE is a shameless, filthy, disgusting, manipulative cash grab. They said the game "retains depth". When you can't even do half the shit you could do in most fighting games without it being a complete and utter hassle. Daisuke once said he "Tested Gold Lewis and has done so many creative things with him", but watching the character, I've rarely seen anything all that unique despite him being the most Guilty Gear character in the game which is a pathetic bar. And yet people on here say "Trans rights were a RISK!" but the only DLC character I've ever seen in any fighting game get ratings such as Bridget, is him and it had NOTHING to do with his gameplay. To know that so many people feel the same gives me the determination and drive to achieve my true identity. Also I too have a big handcuff,it is from the time I had to arrest a giant for speeding.
yeah, she is amazing. And no,she was never groomed nor forced. She made the decision by herself and I am proud of her for it. It takes courage and a lot of knowing yourself to do so
@@Dhampire1976 for the groomed part, I see soo many people say that, could you explain it to me? Yea I watched the vid. So she did overcome the part where the village said the curse was fake and they accepted that Bridget was a boy. Then Bridget realized soemthing wasn’t right with them and started questioning themselves. Then they became, gaymer girl.
Both Bridget's new song and Bridget's past as a femboy helped me a lot as a genderfluid person who is usually a femboy. Her strive theme song helped me identify several problems I was having, and gave me a lot of motivation to keep doing what I need to do to be happy. At first I thought her new song was very nice but I thought it wasnt something I could relate to. But eventually I started understanding I had unsettled insecurities, and her song unearthed more and helped me a lot. It got me to think a lot about things and it gives me power and a focus on doing what's right for me. Bridget's past as a femboy was really impactful since she was this character who, through animations and so on, came across as someone who was heedlessly happy and self-accepting and bubbly ‘despite’ being a feminine guy(at the time/in perception). That was very liberating feeling and resonant to see, especially since there were like no especially gnc men(nor trans charas) in most forms of media back then(and still very few gnc men in western media today). I think a lot of trans women resonated with that as they discovered themselves(like they started thinking about gender more because of bridget, eventually became trans), and then the new development on the character built on that for them. I think it can be overlooked how new any sort of gender bending fem chara was to most americans on the internet in 2002-2008, especially for a depiction that wasnt a villain and was actually playable. So Bridget was sort of formative for a lot of different people, and so for many trans women who experienced that the new arc has extra power.
As a fairly new trans woman still exploring wtf is even me, I instantly latched on to Bridget as a comfort character. As you say in your 3rd paragraph, what happened to you with her being femboy in the past happens to me with her being trans now. She's like me, she's a trans girl, and she's just ... happy, and confident in herself. Her animations, her voice lines, her victory quotes, they all exude happiness in all directions, and this is a thing that gives me hope that sometime in the future, this can be me too.
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see a genderfluid person appreciating Bridget. It really goes to prove that no gender is better than any other and it's all just what you prefer in that moment.
@@ModernAegis Glad to make you feel that way! Being genderfluid is a pretty hard challenge psychologically imo... tends to create insecurities and stuff.

Speaking as a trans woman who's been out for a good while now, even GGXX Bridget and similar characters of the time got me asking questions about myself way back when. We didn't exactly get much particularly good mainstream rep back then, so even the kind of character archetype that got commonly used for arguably transphobic comic relief could still leave a powerful impact on the old eggshell at times, intentionally or not. I'm happy to see Bridget's story take the turn it did though, and it's really cool to see the character still resonating with people like that after all her years of absence from the series. Plus she cute as hell
Bridget was never trans in XX, his whole storyline was that you didnt need to be "manly" in order to be a man. Being an effeminate male does not mean your still not a man. Hell his character bio in Xrd refers to him as male. Its only in strive where his character was retconed.
@@Ty-zi7nx I literally never said Bridget was trans during the XX days, only that it was a bit of exposure to the general idea of gender non-conformity in my early, otherwise relatively sheltered formative years that got me to question if any of that kind of gender role shit really mattered, the inevitable answer being "Nah, it don't matter, be whoever or whatever the fuck you want, who give a shit?" Also gonna ignore that you think retconning and character development are somehow the same thing.
@@Ty-zi7nx No, that wasn't the story at all. I bet you don't even know what her motivation in XX WAS in the first place. It also wasn't a retcon, you delusional child. Character development is not the same thing as a retcon no matter how much you scream it is, GROW UP.
I have a feeling you're a liar. Most XX fans, even the trans ones, hate or vomit at Bridget being "trans" in XX. I can't think of a single person who thought "Bridget" when it comes to questioning their sexual identity during XX. If anyone, they would discuss Venom. I have a feeling you don't even know THIS and it's WELL known for XX players but Venom is GAY. NOBODY complained about that. Cause it was tastefully done. Bridget in STRIVE is a shameless, manipulative, disgusting, vomit worthy cash grab. And people like you fall for it. Most people from XX HATE Bridget being trans from what I've heard. I haven't met a single XX player who said anything positive about Bridget being trans. The only time I do is when I meet people who LIE! And I have a feeling you're one of them. A person who is LYING about having played XX so fondly as you "remember".
That's sad to hear. Neo-Bridget fans are probably some of the sleeziest little fuckers I've ever met. I've met a lot of cool trans people. But "Bridget" fans are the worst.
@@SunshowerWonderlab Yep. On HS>HS roger comes out with the second hit with his own and during the Slash Super both Bridget and Roger come out hitting the yo-yo's. There's probably some other moves I'm forgetting as well but those are the main buttons you'll see roger show off the yo-yos.
I read a post that was called in defense of Bridget that was defending why her coming out of trans was a good thing her whole life was spent trying to prove this curse wrong to be free from it to be strong but once she got that freedom to chose who she is to be who she wanted to be she found herself unhappy and became conflicted in her identity and what that would mean for the curse and the people back home doubting herself. Eventually she finds comfort and realizes that being a woman fits her it makes her happy. I like this story because it normalizes the idea that one can strive for the freedom from the chains of a previous idea and gain that freedom and that that freedom means they have the choice to decide who they are for themselfs. She worked for her freedom to be happy and found it wasent everything and that she was missing something that something hurt she was denying herself because of how she spent her entire life trying to be manly to be strong and it took her accepting herself and others showing her that she doesn’t need to be manly to be strong and that it doesn’t invalidate her journey. Is it messy? Sure but it’s honestly how the experience is. I’m unsure if I’m articulating these ideas properly or accurately but I wanted to give my input as a trans woman myself.
The "she is just like me fr" it can be seen even for a non binary like me,her theme was and is in my top 3 most important songs in my life for just explaining what i feel about myself,i just love how she isnt "oh look I'm trans" but more than just that and actually make you like the characters for what they are
Yeah? Her original backstory in Japanese explicitly stated she wanted to get rid of the village superstition and live as a boy so her parents could stop feeling guilty about what they did to keep her safe. Her growing and going on to do something else because it's what brings her personally happiness and satisfaction rather then just what makes her parents happy is a pretty good story arc over the games.
I really like the video but I wanted to take a moment to defend Catalyst here since I think some context is necessary. Apex has two trans characters: Catalyst and *Bloodhound* (Bloodhound is nonbinary). The problem is that Apex, being a much more mainstream game, attracted a lot of people who either don't know Bloodhound is nonbinary or actively try to ignore it because of transphobia. When designing Catalyst, the developers said they wanted a character who was "unapologetically trans". There's no misconstruing who Catalyst is. To a very large crowd of "alpha gamers" she is a defiant, proud statement against the bigotry that is usually associated with that crowd. Also, Catalyst is a very different character. She's been who she is for a long time and her in-game writing reflects that. I can't help but love it.
I respect that. I think its mostly that their trailer is poorly written which is a bit unfortunate. But as a character, I respect them immensely and what they represent

I discovered Guilty Gear because this character was everywhere on the internet. I love fighting games. She was from one I hadn't played yet. Instinctively, 14-year-old me rents Guilty Gear Isuka. Loves it. I decided right then and there, if I ever transitioned, I would take the name "Bridget". It's a cute name, it's attached to a cute character, my name started with a "br" and ended with a "t" anyway so it wasn't that radical of a change to remember or adjust to. Fast forward to now. 33-year-old me is acting on what I planned on back then.

My personal headcanon is that the shackle represents her being a prisoner in her own body, or maybe being shackled to various people's expectations of her I suppose that as of Strive she is mostly free of that, but idk as a trans person I think that's something you're never 100% free of
Everything about Bridget is absolutely peak. Outfit? Peak. Theme? Peak. Cuteness? Peak. Helping many people feel more comfortable with coming out? Peak. She’s truly the best girl

Even if it was a retcon, who cares? So much shit gets retconned because it was boring/lazy/bad. The trope of "boy raised as a girl teehee!" is so boring and gives me second hand embarrassment. I love Bridget, if I hadn't gotten into GGST when she was released I would've probably postponed coming out to my family a lot longer. and that's great and all but can we talk about how Roger is a fucking mech plush possessed by a ghost and that's never explained in detail ever?
They technically ain’t a fighting game character but Ladiva actually beat Bridget because she was a trans in a fighting game before Bridget was in Strive. (Or at least Ladiva was presented/announced as trans before Briget was.)
To be fair, that was revealed after the game released with the release of Farewell, and with the writter Maddy Thorson figuring out she was trans in part thanks to the very game she created. Although considering that Maddy was a closeted trans woman when Celeste was being developed, and that Madeline's story is heavily inspired on Maddy's own life and mental struggles at the time, you could probably say that Madeline was always trans, all Maddy did was confirm it for good.
There are so many people who don't understand what grooming even means, yet they throw it in bridget's story. It would be grooming if her parents wanted her to be a girl, but they never ever wanted that. It was bridget's decision to transition into being a girl. Then again, it is a waste of time to even listen to those people. They never played a single guilty gear game, yet act like they suddenly know everything about a franchise they never cared for before.
God, the whole "bad ending" discourse pissed me off so much. So glad Daisuke and the team went out of their way to adress it as false and fully confirming Bridget being trans.

On catalyst, I love her and I feel that respawn didn't want to go the way they did with her in the trailers, but Bloodhound showed them that their playerbase can't read subtlety
It's sad that people are actively angry and or denying Brisket's story because they "think" that Japanese media having lgbt content is weird, westernized or straight up not possible (or just being transphobic but yk) even though real life history definitely tells a different tales told

Not readin all that to be honest but from the first sentence your take is valid.

I completely agree that her transition happening on screen is part of her popularity.
The character claimed to want to be a man."

Shut up about your delusions.
If you aren't part of the majority opinion (Who generally has a lot of the same opinions), then you're garbage."
Is THAT the message of uniqueness people stand for? I liked the game cause it offered an experience most fighting games didn't. I know people who only got into the series cause it was a freebie way into the FGC. Nothing more. Is THAT the idea of being okay with yourself?

I also get extremely mad when people suggest it’s a retcon.
It’s not a retcon. A retcon would be like, “oh, the Lich King (from Warcraft) was actually the pawn of a mystical magical death god called ‘the Jailer’ the entire time, and everything that happened was actually all a part of his plan the whole time and we totally always knew this was the case and we’re not just making this up now.”
Instead of, “Arthas used to be blonde and use a hammer and he used to be a Paladin and a good guy, but now he’s got totally white hair, uses a sword, and is a death knight and bad guy.”
You don’t get mad at Warcraft III’s second chapter like, “YO WTF THEY RETCONNED ARTHAS ALREADY?!?!” It’s called a STORY. CHARACTER PROGRESSION.
Yeah, it’s like calling the Empire Strikes Back a retcon because the empire still exists like no bitch that’s progression of a story
It's a retcon

@@Siberianhusky89 WHAT STORY? Go ahead, explain her story in XX. Not AC+R since that was literally never canon.
I mean straight up, this is how the character first appeared in the SERIES)
Bridget then figures out that his brother has been missing for a long time and searches for him along the way. He continues his journey as a bounty hunter. (This was never resolved cause apparently, it's no longer important since the character's main focus is being bred trans).
Bridget finally thinks "I'm okay with being a man and don't need my village's approval!"
Oh, want +R's story?

@@RadChad That’s completely understandable. Story within the game also gave her a ton more to work with which is always nice

Of course he would play Undertale music when he got to the "kill the child" part.
Village: twin Boys are a curse.
Bridget: becomes a bounty hunter, killing for money.
Village: huh, would you look at that, guess we were wrong.
And somehow that's still the most logical part of guilty gear lore...
The funny thing is we don't know if the village was right because one of the twins is a girl and the other's just gone.
33-year-old me is acting on what I planned on back then.
i dont resinate with bridget for being trans (cus im not) but i really do love this character alot and her theme is a banger like every other tracks from GGS

I wish I could say that's a joke....
Beautiful video, i dont understand how people refuse to admit that shes trans and still thinks theres no possible explanation that makes sense
Thank you for making this video Rad Chad. I too love Bridget and appreciate your take on things. Cheers!
My personal headcanon is that the shackle represents her being a prisoner in her own body, or maybe being shackled to various people's expectations of her
I suppose that as of Strive she is mostly free of that, but idk as a trans person I think that's something you're never 100% free of
Everything about Bridget is absolutely peak. Outfit? Peak. Theme? Peak. Cuteness? Peak. Helping many people feel more comfortable with coming out? Peak.

Did not know that Madeline was trans. Good for them
To be fair, that was revealed after the game released with the release of Farewell, and with the writter Maddy Thorson figuring out she was trans in part thanks to the very game she created.
