I'm Indian and don't speak a word of Hindi. I generally speak English and Tamil (Which is the language from my state) So I found this purdy helpful! Thanks man :)
Gumbi 66 Just started :) Never took any language other than English too seriously when I was younger. Just started learning to write Tamil and started learning the basics of Hindi. How come you know Tamil?
I’m indian and even though I’m fluent in Hindi and English, still found this video entertaining and informative. Keep up the good work and your patience elevated ♥️♥️
I recently found your channel and being a New Zealand born Indian, I can not speak to any Hindi without sounding like an NRI (non-resident of India). My parents haven't been big on the Hindi lessons so I just pick up phrases said around the house, but whenever I'm in India and I start talking to anyone, they will immediatly know I'm not from India and I cannot respond back to them. So thank you for making this channel for people like me, trying to understand their roots and having a fun time doing so. AND a Kiwi is documenting this journey, I cannot be prouder of our little nation.
I lived in India off and on for 4 years as a foreigner, and the structure of your videos is really well thought out. This is a great way to pick up language, and learn some skills for learning even more “in the wild”. Well done!
Karl, can you teach more Hindi? That was the best Hindi lesson ever. Way better than anyplace I have found on the world wide web. Thank you so much. Dhanyavaad.
I have been watching so many of your videos recently, this was a find! I work in the airline industry and Indian flights are always a bit challenging when someone like me is not used to the culture. I always try to be polite and respectful, that's my rule of thumb, but I like to try and go the extra mile for our guests, so I will definitely take this language tips for my next flight and use them not only onboard but also when I get the chance to go out and explore Delhi and other places. Your videos also gave me more confidence to travel inside Delhi, after so many horror stories from colleagues. Thank you so much for your amazing content and maybe one day I will be able to greet you in Hindi in the streets of Delhi!
@@KarlRock Huge thanks again! We have really enjoyed India, also thanks to your valuable advice. Fortunately we didn't get scammed at all and we've met many kind people! Unforgettable experience!
Hey dude, I've been using these phrases for the last two weeks and it's been amazing! To anyone who is on the fence about learning these, definitely do it. It's made my trip in India 10 times better and the response from the locals is incredible. Do it! Learn some Hindi.
Yup. It really makes me sad when arrogant locals irritate foreigners like for selfie and insisting to buy things and tourists can't say NO word or Nahi chahiye.
It depends on what unit of measure is the vendor buying it in, units or kgs. Generally the larger stores would sell it in kgs and smaller ones in units/dozen.
Hey Karl.....u r doing a gr8 job.......I m impressed with the efforts u r putting in to make others learn Hindi....Its our pleasure to have u in INDIA....
It's commendable how indianised you are..have learnt so many daily use indian stuff..I suggest you visit pune..lot to see here..Gandhi's days in jail were spent here..Also visit vaishali restaurant on Fergus son college road and much more.
Hey Karl I'm also a traveler n today I subscribed your channel and watched your videos. I was surprised to watch this video bcz my house is only 50 meters from this place. This place is Dwarka Mor Metro Station (West Delhi) I think you shot this video in the evening. You're really doing grt job mate. And I must say your Hindi is really awesome. हिंदी मेरी मातृभाषा है और आपको हिंदी बोलते हुये मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगा। ईश्वर की कृपा आप पर बनी रहे मित्र। :)
Although I am fluent in hindi as Hindi is my first language , But I never thought hindi is so tough to pronounce for a foreigner , But u r a good tutor Karl :)
I love your posts Karl. Im a subscriber! I have visited Pushkar, Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur, in Rajasthan in 2016 and I just cannot wait to go back after watching your videos! Thanks mate!
There are few words every Indian understand.. Hello = Namaste Ok = Thik Hai English Digits ( One , Two , Three ) And In India you don't get banana per kg instead you get per dozen ( 12 banana ) By the way great work buddy...
Whenever you go to fruit stands like this. Pick the fruit that sits in the front. Otherwise, he will give you the older less desirable ones that no one sees. He gave you the shittier bananas mate. Never-mind, you chose 60 rupee bananas.
excellent video, Karl - love the emphasis on pronunciation - the key to language learning! i'm your newest subscriber and fan after listening to you at Conversations Mumbai. keep up the fab work :)
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! What a change from the usual language videos where they have music playing over the pronunciation and you can't hear anything.
Me living in India from the past 20years ... To be precise HYDERABADi .... Struggling to speak hindi and learning from this foreign guy which is far more interesting from those Hindi mentors(not all) ...
Welp, I just learnt that Namaste is more of a North Indian greeting. Whenever I visited India, specifically around Mumbai, or was just with family, I always noticed that everyone barely greeted each other with 'namaste' unless they were being very, very formal. Normally I observed them use 'namashkar' instead.
in northern states of India viz. U.P., Uttarakhand, M.P., Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, H.P., Bihar, Bengal---- BANANAS are sold by DOZEN, and not by WEIGHT. except southern states and Rajasthan where the commodity is measured in weight. KEEP THAT IN MIND.
I’m indian, been there recently and was amazing. Also if you want to travel quickly, I recommend a scooter or bike. For scooter I recommend a Honda active 4 gen because it’s super easy to drive around.
Yes. I've just finished writing short guide on how to learn hindi for English speakers. It covers all the hard points you need to focus on. Ill be releasing it in a month or two alongside a video summary and live stream around it
Invaluable, i like asking how much in the local language as it may stop them from asking for a higher price as they think you know the lingo, but saying that we have to then learn the numbers so we know what price they say, which Im also down for anyway 👍
Bro your vloggin style is very simple which I like the most .and I subscribed your channel and seen your all videos because it's very natural and very less editing.👍

Bananas are mesureb by no. Of pcs rather than.. weight.. i think...
Called Darjan or 12 pcs
diffrent city different norms ,
mumbai its dozen , jaipur its Kg . . . .
bhai agra m kg k hisab se milte h mrko bhi last month pta chla
Here in madhya pradesh its also Darzen.
1kg kele bhut ajib lagta hai sunne me
It depends on what unit of measure is the vendor buying it in, units or kgs. Generally the larger stores would sell it in kgs and smaller ones in units/dozen.
dozon thik hai
Cool video. For kelay we usually use the word "darjan" which means 12.
