commented 2 years ago, since then had to have my prostate removed due to cancer, all good now. This song still makes me smile and helped push me through the tough times. And I am not over the hill and i will keep smiling
We went on the road fulltime in 2017 in our RV and one of the first things we did was drive to Madras OR for the eclipse. Now we're still on the road and there is another one coming up next month in April 2024. In all that time I lost touch with John Hiatt until I just now found this album. Just like old times only now chilling here on our place Rancho Sueño Azul in Baja. In the meantime I've heard a lot of weak music trying to stay in touch with new performers, I had almost forgotten how musicians used to actually play their instruments! I last saw John perform in Redding CA, it was a great show,I remember him telling the audience that they felt more comfortable there because 'they were inland people'. But a few years before back in the 90s I was walking to work one morning through the Tenderloin in San Francisco when I encountered him coming my way on the sidewalk. So cool to just encounter him on the street! Things like that happened a lot in the City back then. I'm 69 now but definitely not Over The Hill, going out kite surfing today on the Sea of Cortez for my 33rd session this year. It's been a Slow Turning alright...hey hey hey!
John Hiatt proves again with this song, that you don't need difficult chords or some impressive riff to tell a story, this sounds so groovy it standss of its own, just a man with his guitar, drums, bass and an organ, it does the trick ! Don't you just love this.....
Saw it too while recovering from a hangover. I am a straight white male and I think I am in love as well - also the lead guitar player's thumb work in the CBS appearance is too much. This should get ya there: www.cbsnews.com/video/saturday-sessions-john-hiatt-performs-over-the-hill/?fbclid=IwAR1I7pKJVkkC5oZtVygcPoZP904CMV0yArCDg-z29KnhpzuBSpBCIS28Hmg
If the music is this good, I want to go over the hill with him. We'll leave the current musical wasteland behind and bask in sublime blues rock like this. I was happy to find an autographed copy of the LP at Barnes and Noble.
I love the rolling Hammond B-3 and echo Fat Clyde about the J.J. Cale-like guitar. It doesn’t get a whole lot better than John Hiatt, truly an American treasure. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, what the hell are you waiting for???
@John Carey "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, what the hell are you waiting for???" They've got to put Nelly, Trick Daddy, and Kendrick Lamar in there first. Ya' know, for "diversity."
How appropriate to discover this song on the day I begin my 60th year on this planet. I work with a crew of 30 something's. They think I'm old but they can't out work me. Wouldn't trade places with them. They missed growing up with John Hiatt, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Carly Simon and all the greatest songwriters from the early days of FM radio. Got to see John and Lyle Lovett pre-covid. The stories of the road were as much fun as the music. Better to be over the hill...than under it!
I also thought, "Great nod to JJ Cale". And yes, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame put this guy in it! Cant wait to see him do it live at HoB in New Orleans next month
I love this song and this video. I accidentally came upon part of the shoot for this. I was in Nashville for cochlear implant follow up. I watched patiently and was just in awe. After the shoot was over John and a couple of his staff came and talked with my friend and I. What a wonderful memory we made that day. Thanks again John for everything.

I just heard this on Spotify when I was in the gym. I am 58 and this song made me smile. I am growing older yes but I am not going down without a fight. Now I can't stop listening to it. Anyone calls me over the hill, I will just smile, I know better lol!
What a brillant song...the guitarwork is just killin me... jjcale inspired and uf you listen closely, you can hear bb King as well.... what a Genius! Greetings from switzerland
I've loved this wonderful, super talented man since the 80s when I first heard Living a Little, Laughing a Little - his duet with Elvis Costello. His song writing is second to none and I love the gruffness yet purity of his voice. I hope he'll be around, singing and song writing, for many years to come. He looks so frail in this video though so I hope he's in good health.
@John Hiatt 🎵 Dear Sir, I follow you from the Day you started making Music first on LP later on CD's. I myself played the Piano in small Bands, and I always tryed to see you giving Concerts either in England or Holland. For anyone who's interested, the wonderful JJ Cale inspired guitar work is done by Yates McKendree, son of the keyboardist and producer on this album, Kevin McKendree. The kid was 16 when they cut this track! He was also the engineer on the album. Talk about talented. His dad was the longtime bandleader for Delbert McClinton.
Thanks for the info J J is my favorite musician and song writer also like Delbert being from Mobile crossed paths many times great people who and still know their craft and John is cut from the same mold
You and me both, John Still, you're producing awesome music and long may you be over that hill cranking out quality albums Absolutely wonderful and the playing superb

Wow, the image of man carrying guitar, is how I got started on guitar. Traveling in my neighborhood giving free into lessons package. In the early sixties.
I hear ya, man. John Hiatt and his writing have meant a miner's ton to me for over three decades. He is to songwriting what Raymond Carver is to short fiction. Nicely done vid with great visual touches.
@John Hiatt 🎵 John!? Thank you very much for your reply. You have to be an busy man.. Sorry I was wrong about Eclipse Sessions not winning. I sure enjoyed it.. Happy Holidays to you and your family. I saw him twice live. Great show. Even though he is well known, he deserves far more recognition. Brilliant.
Man I love me some John Hiatt
A superb songwriter. An American voice that speaks clearly to an international audience. Massive respect from Birmingham, England.
Seconded. Time for John to come to Brum.
The petition starts here.
Same here " massive respect" for a great sound from South Derbyshire , England.

There's more musicians than can be heard in this world, but still only a handful of great songwriters. Thank you, John Hiatt.
Twelve if you count the Accidentals ain't that the truth my friend
Are you also aware of the band The Accidentals? Might want to check them out. Different from John, but good stuff.
Fantastic. And the bonus J.J.Cale-like guitar picking just makes it sublime !

Goes down like oil. Hiatt can still top his œuvre. Great craftsmanship, great art 🥰

If only the good die young then John has far overstayed his welcome 😄
Up on Love Circle in Nashville.
Im diggin this cut.........
I'm over the hill
under the bridge
Still a few peaks and valleys
I ain't seen
You talk about love
I talk about love
I don't know any better
than to dream
I know your father's house
it has many rooms
I see the young men
sweeping up with their brooms
But, if you want me
I'm over the hill
Yeah, if you want me
I'm over the hill
I'm long in the tooth
what can I say
I take huge bites of life
and I eat the bones
The gristle and marrow
feeds my soul
Gives me the strength
to forgive all the sticks and stones
And what you see in me
you think I see too
I didn't get here
telling stories for you
But, if you want me
I'm over the hill
Yeah if you want me, baby
I'm over the hill
I hear a distant cry
A tear forms in your eye
For the way things might have been
We can't live that again
No time to fill the cup
No time to screw it up
We'll have to place our bets
On the dog with no regrets
Well time won't tell
Heaven or Hell
Time just pisses his secrets
down the stream
You talk about love
I talk about love
Sometimes I even think
we know what we mean
No band of angels
bringing peace to the streets
We wear the garments
and we shuffle our feet
But, if you want me baby
I'm over the hill, yeah
But, if you want me baby
I'm over the hill
Oh, I'm over the hill baby
I'm over the hill baby
I'm over the hill baby
Damn, this is good...
Awesome !! As always ! ❤
Fantastic - Over the hill.
Just great! Carry on John.
this song, mississippi phone booth, all the lilacs in ohio . . . . . . . . . my apologies for my language but, phucking brilliant.
