I am a big fan! I am Japanese!
3:55 - E-ma Throat Candies. I believe you got mixed berries, but the package is too far away for me to be sure
4:39 - Showa Chiroru Candy - This is a “generation” themed candy Showa Era was between 1926-1989. Flavors are Cream Soda and Japanese Upside-down pudding
5:35 - Calpis Soda Crush Lemon - Milky Carbonated drink with lemon oil and lemon juice. Calpis is essentially a yogurt drink which is why it is white and milky. You can get Calpis in the states at most grocery stores in the "Asian Food" aisle, not the soda though.
6:44 - Bourban Fettucine Gummies - These are Grape flavored sour gummies that are high in Vitamin C
7:55 - Calbee JagaRico Original/Salad Flavor Potato Sticks with real bits of Carrot and Parsley
8:30 - Lotte Green Gum - I HIGHLY recommend that if you ever need to wake yourself up fast checking out Lotte Black Black Gum which is extremely strong mint flavor and has caffeine in it.
9:50 - Tohato Amijaga Potato Chips - Sweet Salt flavored Waffle Fry Potato Chips
10:30 - Calbee Seaweed Salt Flavored Potato Chips
12:09 - Glico Mental Balance Chocolate GABA (Bitter) - Chocolate with GABA powder which is supposed to reduce stress

I haven't visited Japan in years, but I agree: (1)the food at Larson's is affordable and incredible (2) the people are so polite and helpful (3) the streets are clean and well-marked with bottled water readily available in dispensers (4) the shopping is incredible (5) I found public transport included English along with Japanese in the way of announcements. Yes, I too, if I could support myself there, would move to Japan immediately.

Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for your content. I started watching you years ago and I have always loved and appreciated your content. Recently I had a health scare that had resulted in some vision changes/loss. (We caught it in time so I shouldn’t have any permanent damage). When it first started happening all I could think was “thank god for Molly.” because I knew that even if the worst happened I would have a place to start and not get lost. That even if the loss was permanent/got worse I would still be able to be me and live life and find my way. Heck, I have even began to use some of the tricks and tips you have mentioned in past videos that I “never thought would apply to me.” Thank you so much for doing what you do and living your life and acting as a guide.

When we went to Japan for the first time, the first thing we bought was a drink from the vending machine. I was tired, so I got coffee, and then I looked to my spouse in shock before handing her my HOT can of coffee. I wish we'd have those here! I think about it whenever it's really cold.
When we visited Kyoto, we were not prepared for the rain and got caught in a down pour. Those hot drink vending machines saved our frozen hands.

I’ve done a lot of convenience store meals and it’s not even a compromise on food quality… You can grab rice balls for a quick snack, or full fledged microwavable meals that tastes amazing. Also love their oden especially in winter (it’s like a bunch of different ingredients cooked in a clear broth so it’s nice and hot on a cold winter’s day)

  • @RosemaryWilliams49fruits
    @RosemaryWilliams49fruits Год назад +2

First off for context I've been living in Japan for about 8 years, (I live in Yokohama in Kanagawa prefecture, so very close to Tokyo), and I'm glad you're having such a good time on your trip so far! I also love the drinking jellies, my favorite is the dark blue one of the brand you bought. Mostly that's because it isn't made with a sweetener like the other colors/flavors in the brand, but natural sugar instead so it tastes less sweet to me than the other ones. It's got a really nice mild sweet flavor, I usually eat it when I have an upset stomach, am hungover, or have just exercised. Some of the chip bags are nice and have a little cut at the top to make opening them easier, but a lot are like that Calbee potato chip bag you opened that feel like they're glued shut like the manufacturers don't want you to eat them haha. Good job opening it :) As for the strawberry milk, anything that advertises fruit on it, is made with real fruit. That doesn't mean that they always have bits of fruit in them, but the flavor will be just like the fruit because the flavoring is actually from the fruit. Though some may taste different because the Japanese variety of the grape, for example, tastes different from the American one. The best example of this I think is that most fruit juices here in Japan are completely pulp free, so it's basically like drinking soda in that it's just sugar water, but it is just fruit juice, no added sugar, so if nothing else it has vitamins and tastes very authentically fruity. However, Family Mart (another convenience store chain like 7/11) has orange Juice and some other fruit juices that are actually made with pulp, in case you are hankering for something like that with your breakfast ;) . You can get some pretty inexpensive and delicious sushi from Family Mart too. It's not restaurant quality, but it's quite good and I'd say it's about 1/5th the price give or take depending on where you go, of the price of sushi at an average sushi restaurant. I haven't been back to the US in awhile so I can't remember well enough to compare it to American grocery store sushi or restaurant sushi, but the Family Mart Sushi is good, and it'll fill you up for very little money. Another food you should try while in Japan if you haven't tried it before, is ramen. It's a noodle soup usually made with pork and topped with nori, green onions, and sometimes an egg or eggs. Depending on the place there are various other potential toppings like beansprouts or cabbage and regional varieties have special toppings/ingredients/flavorings that are fun. The portions are very large generally speaking though, so I recommend a serving of noodles at 200-300 grams max to avoid getting too much, and don't worry you don't have to finish all the soup broth, but you can if you want to, otherwise leaving some broth is considered the standard way to eat it. Good luck with the rest of your trip I hope it goes over really smoothly and is so much fun!

The writing on the candy is 昭和チロル (Showa Tirol). Tirol is the name of the candy company. Essentially it's candy made to mimic the flavors of food found in cafes in the Showa period (1926-1989) like cream soda, or the dessert pictured which is called "Pu-rin" or pudding.

I was at one of the convenience stores in Japan and the cashier wouldn't sell me the sushi roll I picked up because it had been sitting on the shelf too long and was "old" all the ready-to-eat food has a date and time stamps on it and the registers won't ring up the item if it is past its sell-by date. This is not an issue for nonperishables though.

I love this haul! We are actually lucky enough to have a pretty good Japanese grocery store accessible to us in New Jersey and after many trips we’ve narrowed down what our favorite things are and so many times when people do the Japanese food tests they miss all the good stuff! You grabbed some of my favorite treats! The gummy candies you got are so good good and they come in different flavors they’re one of my favorite Japanese candies and I love the potato sticks you got as well everybody always misses those and they’re so good! I actually really love how crunchy they are without being too hard, and they come in all different flavors did you get the chance try the sukiyaki once they’re like beef flavored and they’re so good it sounds weird but it’s good like beef soup flavor. You should also try some of the kit Kats if you see them they come in all different flavors in Japan and they’re like more for me type candy they’re not as cheap as they are here in the US they come and literally like 100 flavors! People also always missed the lemonade and the milk tea in the cup like you had.

    To Molly and non-Japanese people
Your food choice was really interesting because there were some snacks I don't know either.
In Japan, hot foods and drinks are common in convenience stores. You can also buy hot beverages at vending machines in winter in Japan.
It says cough throat on the "e-ma" 's packet.
Actually, the jelly drink was a nutrient drink, so most people do not drink it as a snack. I sometimes have this when I don't have enough time to eat breakfast.
The next chocolate, Showa-era TIROL, is a tiny bite-sized chocolate piece. On the package, it says there are pudding flavors and melon cream soda flavors. The Showa era is from 1926 to 1989, and this means that the flavor is old-fashioned.
The long potato snack is quite famous in Japan. They have various flavors, so if you have a chance, you should try other flavors! The package says "congratulations" in Japanese, but I don't see what flavor it is. Maybe a normal one.
The next one after the chewing gum, it's another potato snack. It says net-shaped potato.
You've got so many potato chips lol. I think Calbee is the most famous company for potato chips in Japan. The flavor is salt and Aonori which is dried green seaweed. They also have many flavors.
I think GABA, the cube chocolate, you pronounced collect. It says that you can reduce your stress by eating this chocolate because there is "GABA" in the chocolate which helps you reduce your stress.
The crape one, the package says crape with whipped cream and chocolate chips.
My English cannot be perfect, so if you feel it's difficult to read this, let me know.
I'm glad that you enjoyed Japan!!

You should try the different onigiri (little packaged triangles with filling in the middle, rice around and seaweed on top), loved those, can find them in any convenience store. Japanese milk or matcha ice cream is incredible and finally unsweetened green tea in a bottle.

The thing I found about American food is that they put a heap of sugar in everything even things that are supposed to be savoury. So if your not a huge sweet tooth it would make sense for the Japanese food to taste so much better. Which I mean let’s be real, even the Japanese 7-11 food looks delicious and making crave crepes…they are so good!!!!! Hope you guys have a great trip ☺️.

The one says 1926 to 1989 on the package, it is known as one of the most affordable chocolates in Japan. It must be a special one featuring flavors known in these years because of the name, Showa :) There are really good flavors out there, just sometimes not very good haha Anyway, I'm glad to see you had a great time in Japan!

My biggest issue in Japan is that, at least 10 years ago, finding a place to get plain black hot coffee in the morning was not easy. Our hotel room only had tea, and I like tea just fine, but first thing in the morning I just need a cup of black coffee to get me going. The 7-Eleven nearby sold plenty of iced coffee drinks, but that’s just not my thing. I just want plain black hot coffee when I wake up. Fortunately, we discovered a McDonald’s several blocks away from our hotel that served the precious brew. I was there for an event, and the days of the event I was able to get hot coffee there, but on other days, that McDonald’s was my lifesaver.

The one you couldn’t translate said Showa Chirol/Tyrol. Not sure what that is but Showa is a period of Japan from like the 20s-80s. The Calpis lemonade is made with fermented milk and carbonated like soda. There are non carbonated options too. It usually scares people off of you tell people what it is ahead of time.

Reading comments like these makes me super envious. Visiting Japan is also on my list of places to go. I'm not saying it's perfect, but from everything I have read and heard from friends, the food is just so much better. I also love that some places have tactile crossings. Not here! As a blind woman, I get comments like: "why aren't you walking in between the crosswalks? "
Well if I could actually see where those crosswalks are, I would!

okay if you will be going back to lawson , family mart or 711 here are things to try:
pudding ( soooo sooo good) not too sweet and really creamy)
    fried chicken
    egg salad sandwich
dont be afraid to try desserts in Japan because they normally dont make desserts too sweet.
also if you can try japanese pancakes , I recommend happy Pancakes and Japanese cheese cake
Ive been to Japan 8 times and I am already planning my 9th trip
