No matter how many times I hear this song the goosebumps still pop up at the end when he says he can hear the ice crack .Great , haunting and pure Canadian , truthful song . Love it .
Haha i'm 19 and I'm rediscovering Tom cochrane! His music's so great! Ive listened to his music since I was little, and then I heard this song today on the radio (I refuse to tune into the Beat 94.5 to listen to today's shitty stuff on repeat) and blasted the music on the way to work, I couldn't help it :P tom cochrane really is underrated! Great music and fantastic voice :)
This teenager, still in school and he excelled at Hockey. Until he was killed by an out -of-control truck driver. His parents were of course devastated. They knew he loved the bad Red Rider, and got a hold of them. The band wrote him a song, and played it at all of their concerts for him. I thought that was the kindest thing they could've done. And it is an absolutely powerful testimony for him.
I never knew that this song was based on a true story..............................Was turned on to this album and song by my little brother Karl many years ago, whose life was also ended too soon on the highway. Now this song will really remind me of my Lil` Bro` Karl.
Such a good song from a tragic event - seems to be great artistry comes from such. An excellent song to have in your musical arsenal. Thanks for the posting!
this was a good highway song young in,love unsure excited worried all about her and makeing it work a rush at 70 clicks with the top down and the tunes up
Yes I know your comment is over 4 years old. Bourdon didn't get a scholarship, he played major junior. However, this song is written and based on a true story, rumoured to be about George Pelawa. Tom Cochrane met a father and was told about the man's son and it inspired him to write this song. VERY good song, VERY classy move by him and a very touching song as well.
Nah, there's already an official video, and even if there wasn't: most of the people I know use YT as a kind of radio, they're not interested in videos. I'd like to do a few clips, but movies are a huge amount of work (huge).
With a negative attitude like this, I imagine you'd find it hard to find anyone to talk to you! This is great music and TC made this song to help heal greaving families. It was a very powerful gesture of kindness. Try being more positive and people will like you and want to be around you more. Yes, it does actually work. :)
Any and all Canadians can appreciate this song respect to Tom

Its actually about George Pelewa. Look it up.
If swimming isn't a sport, then why do they swim at the Olympix? I'm a good swimmer, I don't even need to use fins or goggles!
COMADAYEEAAAHAW
I don't like hockey or this song. Or any of their songs really. I met TC once and I got the impression that he didn't want to talk to me.

@@chadmcmillan1907 10 years have passed & little has changed. I still don't care for TC's music... but I do like hockey now
