Thank you for such an interesting video, & the different hypotheses about this custom. There is a kindness for refugees unable to walk further. It would have taken perhaps a couple of days to build the tomb. At least they had shelter from weather, & attack from wild animals for another 2 days with their bowl of rice. Also, in the past during times of famine in my country, the frail, sick & elderly were given very watered down soup/porridge & so they died from starvation first. It was the only way for the bread winners & some children to have enough food to survive until the next harvest. There's not that much difference..... if you happen to be old! As always, you've given me much to think about.
Yes, especially when the ancient society encountered wars or famines, people's survival was a big problem, and people often made sacrifices. These tombs of the living dead are likely to be the product of that specific time. Now think about how the society is developing better and better, and people's living standards have been improving. What a blessing this is.
@@xingjilvtu Thank you for your insight. I want to say that one of the things I admire the most about modern China is the poverty alleviation schemes. Rural life will always entail hard physical work, long hours, & concerns for suitable weather. My impression is that everyone's very basic needs are now met. There is now no need for that ultimate sacrifice / act of love a parent has for their children & grandchildren in times of famine. To me, this is one of the greatest achievements in history, especially considering all the different types of natural disasters which can strike in China.

@@judithafholland Indeed, people's lives are getting better and better now, this is obvious, as long as you work hard and work hard

@Nothing Nothing
