Come on man: the instrument cluster on this thing is beautiful, even the compass! What do you want a tablet on it? Maybe you're right about the fuel gauge, but it doesn't give crazy readouts.
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog I think a digital instrument cluster would really look out of place on such a vintage looking adventure bike. Much on the same way the Yamaha Bolt has a round speedo dial, but a horrible rectangle display that looks like it came from the original Gameboy. Careful with an LED upgrade, the halogen reflector is designed for a halogen bulb. So make sure that on the LED light, the module itself is in a good position to ensure the reflector actually reflects the light correctly instead of throwing a short beam or dazzling oncoming traffic.

I'm planning on purchasing a Himalayan soon and it seems like it would possibly be good upgrade. I'm watching for a user review on the camshaft. Thanks for the video
I only found out about this bike about a week ago and I am really interested in it. I like the idea of cruising on and off road going to remote places and exploring. My main ride now is a 1978 flh harley, and I will probably try to find a way to take it with me when I die haha. I also have a 1991 Springer softtail easy to maintain and very reliable.
I imported a DR650 all the way from Texas over to the UK and it's the best present I've ever bought myself. Much as I like the Himmer I'd take my Suzuki any day. Thanks for the video
More power no doubt. I’ve had bad luck with Suzuki’s so my fingers are crossed that this bike doesn’t let me down! Honda was my 2nd choice with the Rally bike they have!
I'm 6' 240. I don't think I would have any problem with the weight. I'm used to riding a large Harley. I also have a KLR650, which is no lightweight. I absolutely do not want an LED headlight. I have been blinded too many times at night by those. I have had to literally wear sunglasses at night because of others using LED headlights. Anybody that can't see well enough with a halogen headlight has vision problems. ALL engines should be warmed up for several minutes before putting a load on them anyway. Taking off with a cold engine will definitely wear out the engine a lot sooner. My KLR is liquid cooled, and I was stranded once out in the middle of nowhere because the liquid cooling system sprung. And I really appreciate that this bike comes with a centerstand. I had to put an aftermarket centerstand on the KLR. And this is by far the best looking dual sport/adventure bike I have seen in decades. It looks like a motorcycle not a spaceship. I would definitely permanently disable the ABS. I plan to get one January 2022.

I think your the first American i have seen to review the Himalayan. Others put out great videos but sometimes things are not the same. The likes and dislikes vary from country to country and even from state to state the riding style can be a world of different, Ridding on rocks and boulders that litter every trail in some parts of the country would turn me away from off road riding. I like the stuff your detailing your individual thoughts about your bike. The instrument cluster seems way ahead of the average Japaneses motorcycle with a barely lit gray scale box detailing virtually nothing. The whole industry needs to come into the 20th century with color screens and built in navigation access or at least fuel and mileage details like modern vehicle. I do wish they would fix the compass though - it's one of the things that attracted me to the bike and when it's working I use it. But if they can't fix it they should replace it with a Beeline bc that's what I would use instead.
My 2018 compass usually works but not always.. the way you fix it is to ride in slow figure 8s until it recalibrates.. now you're not only lost, but dizzy too. lol 😂
Hey I was wondering, you're in the south of the US right? It can get pretty hot in the summer from what I understand. I'm curious to find out how you find that it handles in the heat. I live in a tropical country SE Asia and it gets blistering hot here throughout the year (over 35C). At times, it gets quite uncomfortable with on board temperatures of over 50C. The bike handles it perfectly well though. The model you own is a 2020 for the international market. The 2021 model has the GPS thingy and smaller tank guards. Enjoy your bike!
I'm in Florida, with a carb that is air cooled and oil cooled. You can always jerry rig a larger oil cooler , or, just change the oil sooner than 3K miles which is what I do.
I'm in panhandle also. How is your Himalayan in the sand here ? My DR650 does pretty well with Shinko 804/805 big blocks on it. They don't last to long though on our hot pavement.
I think in USA RE didn't release the new 2021 model. New model comes with Google powered digital navigation, new seats, wider and taller wind deflector, and tank guard bottom corner has been trimmed for tall riders
Yeah I wouldnt mind an in built satnav with gps as I think you cant use the nav system offline so means always on phone no? (Although maybe takes away from the look) Am hoping there's a Himalayan with a 20l tank and 650cc... P.s Like the idea of a long distance bike old school style but has the oompf when needed. Maybe i'll go for something else but dont get me wrong this will be top three for maybe next year👍
Just about around 70 mph at 5200 revs, the vibrations appear, not unbearable but can be felt. So the maximum cruise speed comfortably manageable would between 65-70 MPH but slighly below 70 MPH. 60-65 MPH is the sweet spot but there is hardly any noticeable change between 65-70 MPH. The engine starts grunting unpleasantly at about 75 MPH at 5700 revs. Still it can pushed for top speed of around 80 MPH but it is not advisable to ride long stretches at speeds above 75 MPH.
If i can learn to stay off interstate i’ll consider buying a Himalayan. It seems everyone is going 80+ on i95 in Florida. I was taught to ride motorcycles a little ahead of traffic speed (and not having cars rolling up on me)
This is 2020 model and in India we have the new 2021 model with Tripper, New Luggage Rack, Taller Windscreen, New Paint Schemes and re designed luggage hanger at the front for the taller riders, also BS6 compliant
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog It's definitely the 2020 model year you have, even though it was registered in 2021. There are some visible improvements on the 2021 model.
let’s call it the 2021 US model. The Indian 2020 model, also BS6 variant, had its cat-converter moved higher up the pipe. You have what would be the 2019 “indian” version, BS4/euro4 model. The newer 2021 has a hazard lights switch on the right handle and all of the above mentioned by Vimarsh. Only upside to your “2021” US model is a slightly higher HP count.
Is the US model so different to an EU 2021 model? Over here we get updated crash guards, tinted and modified windshield, tripper navigation, updated central box mount... this looks more like a 2020 model to me
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog huh, go figure. Anyway, hope you enjoy the bike. I'm planning on getting my licence this Fall and getting the RE as my first bike start of the next season.
They've had trouble just shipping enough bikes here. The Rona apparently hit India later than Europe and the US, and is still messing up the supply chain over there. My bike didn't even come with Pirellis on it - it had CEATs.
Nice review - but that's a 2020 model. '21 has navigation, stronger rack, bigger screen, improved fueling. Seems odd that the 2021 model is only available in India and UK.
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog Interesting .... but it's a 2020 spec bike, so it's odd that Enfield is still supplying a major market with the older model, especially as the strengthening of the rear rack could be viewed as a safety feature.
@@StpBks Unfortunately that just means Enfield is providing the US market with the old model. Perhaps there was a Type Approval barrier to importing the new model, but as they are selling the new model in Europe, this seems unlikely. I think as a minimum they should have fitted the new, stronger rear rack to the US models. If there's an accident due to a broken rack, I think there could be a legal case. Enfield are aware of a weakness with the rack, developed a stronger rack for their new model, but continued to supply the old one to the US and other markets. I'm not sure if any other motorcycle manufacturer does a global launch of a new model, then continues to sell the old model in selected markets?
If they do a 650 Himalayan I will definitely check one out. I rode the Himalayan and liked it a lot - However, back-to-back with a second-hand DR650, it couldn't compete with the Suzuki's performance. Having said that, in hindsight I wish I'd taken a punt on the RE.
well, RE has confirmed that they have recently started working on the Himalayan 650, although it probably won't be called Himalayan in it's 650 guise...
@@superchargedpetrolhead Yes I heard that - the clay mock-ups don't look as nice as the current Himalayan though... Still who knows what the final version will look like :)
Hmm... Looks like back tire is on backwards according to pattern of the chevrons tread. On my bikes the bottom of the chevron tread rolls forward, not the point of it. Weird.
On the sidewall of your tire is a rotation arrow. Double check. Mine is the same as Whiskey Throttle's. You might notice the chevron pattern is opposite the front tire vs the back tire. (The back tire's main job is pushing and the front tire's main job is stopping.)
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog It's the latest model available in US. There's a newer model available with improved dash, fueling, rack and frame - but Royal Enfield dump the old model in US, Thailand and other markets. Most manufacturers do a global launch, but not Enfield.
Also they need to give you a piece of black tape at the dealer to put over the non functional compass. I had a 2018 Himalayan and it didn't work and my buddies new one won't work either no matter what is tried
I don’t think your comments on the weight or the clocks, are justified. The clocks suit the style of the machine, and it’s very light overall. If you want led lights, and water cooling, pay twice the price for something else. It’s a good all rounder at a great price.

I just go out and start it before I put my gear on and get my stuff together. By the time I climb on and put my gloves on, it's warmed up.
I like the analog instrument cluster. I do wish they would fix the compass though - it's one of the things that attracted me to the bike and when it's working I use it. But if they can't fix it they should replace it with a Beeline bc that's what I would use instead.
Agreed on the compass!
My 2018 compass usually works but not always.. the way you fix it is to ride in slow figure 8s until it recalibrates.. now you're not only lost, but dizzy too. lol 😂
LMAO
at 3:05 you mentioned air cooled not liquid cooled. It does have an oil cooler, although that is not the traditional liquid cooling, oil is liquid.
Nice review…
Hey I was wondering, you're in the south of the US right? It can get pretty hot in the summer from what I understand. I'm curious to find out how you find that it handles in the heat. I live in a tropical country SE Asia and it gets blistering hot here throughout the year (over 35C). At times, it gets quite uncomfortable with on board temperatures of over 50C. The bike handles it perfectly well though.
The model you own is a 2020 for the international market. The 2021 model has the GPS thingy and smaller tank guards. Enjoy your bike!
Mine is definitely a 2021 in the American market sadly. As for the heat you can feel it but it’s honestly not that bad.
The 'gps thingy' is called 'Tripper"and its something of a first as a factory fitted unit and certainly for RE
I'm in Florida, with a carb that is air cooled and oil cooled. You can always jerry rig a larger oil cooler , or, just change the oil sooner than 3K miles which is what I do.
@@thevoyer2002 good point. I wonder if an interceptor 650 oil cooler would fit. Might be a solution.
I’m down in The Florida Panhandle and own one too. A lot of fun.
No doubt!
Im in same area, where can i find one?
I'm in panhandle also. How is your Himalayan in the sand here ? My DR650 does pretty well with Shinko 804/805 big blocks on it. They don't last to long though on our hot pavement.
@@methemrs9024 he said in Alabama there is a dealer.
Love it!
For sure 😎
I think in USA RE didn't release the new 2021 model. New model comes with Google powered digital navigation, new seats, wider and taller wind deflector, and tank guard bottom corner has been trimmed for tall riders
Yah it’s weird my title and mfr plate on the bike say January 2021 it makes me wonder if they’re being assembled over here.
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog yeah your bike is 2020 model in India
It looks like a great bike!
Make video on ur Ford raptor...😍
Yeah I wouldnt mind an in built satnav with gps as I think you cant use the nav system offline so means always on phone no? (Although maybe takes away from the look)
Am hoping there's a Himalayan with a 20l tank and 650cc...
P.s Like the idea of a long distance bike old school style but has the oompf when needed. Maybe i'll go for something else but dont get me wrong this will be top three for maybe next year👍
I do wish it had more power. I agree with the 650cc displacement for power.
If I am not wrong RE will be launching a Himalayan with 650cc engine soon
People love the Instrument cluster mate, I don't see it going away.
How's the noise? I'm looking for a quiet bike. Thanks!
Very quiet!
I was thinking you were Alabamian as soon as you started talking.
Huntsvillian here.
Where's the gps display that comes on the 2021 and the rear abs disconect button?
ruclips.net/user/shortswMEH9wZn7h0?feature=share
If I lay it down, can I pick it up by myself?
If you are new to the Himalayan, TEC bike parts might be worth a look (RUclips and parts) also Hitchcock's, expensive but worth a look....
I’ll definitely check them out! Thanks for the tip!
If you have to travel on the interstate and hour or two what is a reasonably comfortable max speed you would cruise at with this little motor?
It’s happiest between 55-65mph but it’ll run 75mph for short spurts.
Ok, thanks.
My title says 2021.....
@@anroadking US gets the 2020 model as 2021
Pretty sure it's called a 2021 model in Australia as well. The newer colours and tripper models aren't coming anytime soon
Nice looking bike
Is the US model so different to an EU 2021 model? Over here we get updated crash guards, tinted and modified windshield, tripper navigation, updated central box mount... this looks more like a 2020 model to me
Yep it’s that different. My title says 2021!
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog huh, go figure. Anyway, hope you enjoy the bike. I'm planning on getting my licence this Fall and getting the RE as my first bike start of the next season.
It’s a great bike! I’ve heard there have been a few supply issues so be sure to preorder if your dealer will allow!
They've had trouble just shipping enough bikes here. The Rona apparently hit India later than Europe and the US, and is still messing up the supply chain over there. My bike didn't even come with Pirellis on it - it had CEATs.
That’s interesting!
has anyone tried different gearing on the bike 400 lbs is nothing if you have ample power do you really have ample power ?
First gear is a bit tall off-road but over all it’s got good bottom end power. The top end is lacking for higher speeds.
Nice review - but that's a 2020 model. '21 has navigation, stronger rack, bigger screen, improved fueling. Seems odd that the 2021 model is only available in India and UK.
Nope it’s a 2021. Watch the follow up video showing title and mfr date.
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog Interesting .... but it's a 2020 spec bike, so it's odd that Enfield is still supplying a major market with the older model, especially as the strengthening of the rear rack could be viewed as a safety feature.
I have a US 2021 model. I checked the VIN number and the 10th digit is "M" making it a 2022 production bike (My manual page 39)
@@Fogbrush @Greysurfer Europe and India bikes need to pass euro 5 emission....us still only need euro 4....they will update it soon
Hi , I am planning to buy this bike, can you help with the normal cruising speed and top speed on Highways of this bike.
It is happiest between 50-65mph and seems to top out around 75-80mph.
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog thank you
Thank you.
Will it hold oil in and all the bearing together after 18,000 miles?
We will see I’m only at 650 miles now.
The new USA ones come with the Tripper 👍🏽
I can’t believe you didn’t know this stuff before buying it..? No shortage of detailed reviews on YooToob. Glad it worked out for you 👍🏽
Delkevic muffler bought it from a Himalayan dealer in Charleston sc
Hmmm I’ll have to check that out!
Can someone help me to pick color between Green , Black or Red ? 🙄
It’s a tough decision for sure! I love the black!
170 cm 73 kg
Or five foot six inch
155pound its completely fine for me
Hate to burst your bubble but based on the instruments, rack and exhaust system I reckon you’ve landed the 2020 model ?? Just saying!!
Nope it’s a 2021 plainly states it on the Title.
Ya it really does suck haha
The compass points to north....how does it not work?
What bikes on the same class that are much lighter?
Honestly nothing will look stylish like it but the crf300l or the Klx300 would be good examples of lighter dual sports with more power.
I don’t think your comments on the weight or the clocks, are justified. The clocks suit the style of the machine, and it’s very light overall. If you want led lights, and water cooling, pay twice the price for something else. It’s a good all rounder at a great price.
I thought the 2021 came with the tripper navigation unit?
Apparently the American version is very different. My title says 2021.
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog oh well that stinks. I want a Himalayan. I suppose I should contact the dealer in advance to make sure. I know the meteor 350 has one. I’ve seen videos from the USA that have the tripper unit. You should ask your dealer to find out what happened 🤣🤣
