Aldos Othran's death is what made the quest impactful when I first did it. Fun fact: Other members of the Othran appear in the games, mostly as enemies. For Morrowind: One carries a key that can free slaves and two are Cammona Tong (hyper-xenophobic Dunmer group) members. In Oblivion, one is a necromancer serving the Worm Cult. In ESO, they mostly lived as civilians in the town of Selfora in Deshaan.
I’ve always seen Aldos as basically commiting suicide by cop. He goes up to a guard, antagonizes him, and then pulls a knife on him first. The fact he was depressed from his wife’s death only adds to the theory.
Doesn’t surprise me, since the incompetent lead “writer” has no imagination and probably committed plagiarism. And took too much from tv shows doing minor edits to fit the setting.
I really appreciate the continued support! :) keep up your great content on your too! I don’t always comment on other videos but just know I’m watching them! :)
Cheydenhal is one of my favorite cities in Oblivion. I love the architecture, and it's just so beautiful. Honestly, I think it, and Chorrol, are my favorite cities, with Anvil hitting my top three as well
Garrus proves to be deserving of the position of captain. Even in clear view of the corruption he doesn't lose sight of the law and tries to find a way that is done proper.
Makes you wonder why he puts up with the rest of the Count's BS. The count of Cheydenhal is corrupt as can be, Including through most accounts, being responsible for his wife's death, Skooma laden parties in the one house. and other such corruptions.
Actually Allies for Bruma while he may be sent to aid the defense when the battle starts and the guards head out he will actually walk casually and return to his home city if he's still the Captain. I know this because I did the defense while not doing his related quest. When it started he walked from the main gate and casually walked away from the battle all the way back home. I'm guessing it's a scripting bug.
Cheydinhal is my favourite city, think its cos also has a river going through it and theres more NPCs than say Skingrad in it, do though HATE how the guard standing outside Aldos's is still classed as essential even after the quest, great video to start the evening and relax
What surprises me about this side quest is that it takes place in same city that the Dark Brotherhood is headquartered! No one put out a contract on his head?
@MoonspiritX Why would Ulrich do that? Aldos wasn't a threat to him. I get that he could've been a witness, but he was constantly drunk and it could've been argued that he was unreliable. Why go through the trouble of digging up a body, finding the other ingredients, performing the Black Sacrement, and then paying to kill Aldos when Ulrich could easily throw him in jail for free. Also, I'm pretty sure the only person who knows that the Dark Brotherhood have a sanctuary in Cheydinnhal is the Count, though I guess the captain of the guard knowing isn't implausible.
I remember this quest. Was thinking that this might be another report, look for evidence, and done mission. Didn't expect the guy to die. I remember him as someone who sang cliff racer song beautifully
I love this video series, you give such an unique view into TES 4, I haven't seen in a long while. I'll be binging the rest of them today haha, I've seen a few already 🔥
I actually forgot there were choices. Oblivion you gem ❤ Nice call back to your ranking video. Certainly changes my opinion, with the suspicion of his wife's death.
I've done the quest before but came here because Ulrich died during the Battle of the Bruma Gate (I don't even think he was meant to be there, he was walking along the nearby road as Martin gave his speech then came by when the gates opened)
He wanted to build them a summer house, not make sure they were being fed and clothed. He could have easily supported them via his normal job, but he got greedy and wanted more. Also, sharing a summer home with your cousins, and the way he says "my love to both of you" reeks of something sinister...
@@toxicity791 Because they didn't know why their kids kept being born with genetic deformities... doesn't make it morally right with the context we have as players.

I just want to mention Ulrich’s underling may follow the law but doesn’t care about its miscarriage. He’s aware that Othran was was charged exorbitant fines but instead of helping him, disparages him and only sends someone to him to get him to become a witness. Its a common theme in Oblivion guards though. 😅

That’s really cool actually, I didn’t know that!
The one honest member of a family and he gets put down by corrupt law enforcement... How sadly ironic.

No, his wife faked for death. In Mage’s Gulid. Before, you retrieve the wood for your staff. A female dark elf shares his last name!
The quests in Oblivion kinda feel like an episode of a tv show.

The funny thing is that I would watch that. They made Fallout a show, and that worked out well enough, despite some lore-breaking implications.

The most tragic part of the quest is Aldos! He never learn that his wife faked his death. In order to live as a necromancer.
It's a blessing every time i see you in my timeline, both you and Dark LORE Dash are my „discovery“ for 2023 - never stop :)
I was mad when he killed Aldos. His singing was spectacular!

this would have been such a good quest for the dark brotherhood i'd gladly send him to sithis myself
Don't we have a quest to give him the finger of his predecessors after we killed them

Agreed. There are some mechanics in Skyrim that Oblivion need, but overall Skyrim is okay at best, while Oblivion is ❤

Is it possible to steal the note before Aldos get's killed?
Don't think so, iirc the note only spawns once the other guard tells you to search Ulrich's room.
I know I'm late but is there a way that doesn't involve death at any turn?
"ill show you how us othrans do things" just walks up talks shit and gets one shot
