If predictive results were important at all, why play the game? You already know who you think is best, so just give them the trophy. Champions are not who looks like they should be the best, they are the ones who outplay the opponent each game-day to the end.

@@DoubleBGreen Yes, Michigan! The rankings are based on top teams (or ranked) teams AT THE TIME of play. Otherwise, we would only consider the teams each team beat only for current week. Choklahoma was ranked at the time we played them, the same way BYU's wins against K-State and SMU count at the time of play. K-State and even Iowa State could all end the season poorly, especially the former; does that then mean BYU's rankings this week should be discredited? In any case, the assertion that Texas has won against a ranked team, even if you took away the Zero-U and MI wins, is FALSE; Texas won against Vanderbilt!
It counts as a ranked win you play a team that's ranked doesn't matter after you play them and they lose some more and arent ranked anymore. If you beat them if they're ranked then it's a ranked win. Not a hard concept
I’m a Notre Dame fan and Tom is absolutely right. I preferred the system where we would be done for losing to NIU. But we have the 12 team playoff now. To people who wanted the expanded playoff and are also mad about ND getting in: y’all asked for this
I think most people's problem with ND is that they aren't in a conference (football wise). They do play a stacked schedule most years being an independent but they should be in a conference at this point. B1G, Big 12 or ACC would be great to see then in.
@@DoubleBGreen people will lament the traditions of cfb being thrown away in favor of TV money but also say that ND should abandon over a century of tradition and throw away one of their differentiators because people don’t like they aren’t in a conference. Sorry, not a very compelling argument.

Also, SMU has a head-to-head win against Pitt so probably knocks them out. So now 3 spots for 4 teams (IU, Notre Dame, SMU, LSU). SMU and LSU would have the best wins (Alabama and Pitt). i genuinely dont understand why we do preseason or even early weeks rankings AT ALL. lets just let a team show us who they are anew EVERY FRIGIN YEAR?!
I agree to an extent. Every P4 team should play their ooc games the first 3 games. A P4 team, G5 and a local lower Division or another G5. After that, let the rankings roll out in the AP and coaches. Otherwise, just have media or power or whatever rankings those suits want to put out.
I think you could justify this as incompetence and not a conspiracy if the schools that always benefit from it weren't the schools the biggest brands, if it didn't happen almost every year, and if the committees reasoning didnt contradict itself from year to year. Other 2021 where the committee couldn't screw Cinncinati for Notre Dame because Cinncinati beat Notre Dame, we have seen committee make desicions that favors the team generates the most money for a reason that is entirely made up and would be contradicted down the road.
The future will be rich teams trying to get a bunch of expensive transfers to coalesce in a short amount of time battling poor teams with roster cohesion.
