You can't necessarily "de-chrome", but you can just replace stuff with just basic prosthetics that aren't much of a strain on you mentally.

    • @thedarkstarr11

There is a process, in the TTRPG. It is really big, and basically takes like...two or three years. You have to go to Europe, special clinics and they can decrome. Basically takes the character out of the story. Very few characters were able to handle massive amounts of chrome...Smasher, and Shaitan come to mind.
High tech, low life. Live fast, die young. Only legends get named drinks at the Afterlife.

The very idea of de-chroming is itself a death sentence - either directly by better chromed cyberpunks or indirectly by starvation due to competing with better chromed cyberpunks.
To get away with this, you need to get rich in a hyper capitalist, interconnected economy where the legal margins are razor thin and crime absolutely pays. Then you have to lose your many massive chrome advantages while hanging onto enough capital not become a victim.

I think the youtuber Echidnut said it best. The story's fast paced delivery is actually integral to the story. David never gets a break, and neither should the audience. And that's what makes this show so damn memorable, fun, and emotionally draining.

Its a shame that Rebecca is suffering from "unrequited love" because it's clear she wants to evolve her relationship with David to more than "just friends" but I think she is aware that his heart belongs to Lucy, still pretty cute of her still trying to hit on him. Rebecca best girl
Also dont worry, "wishing the show to be a bit longer" or "having more time with the characters and show off moe their bonds" is a common criticism with the show that a lot of people have but I think that's how the creators of the show intended to make it, unfortunately. Rather than being rushed, I think this a dense anime, filled with lots of stuff each episode that doesn't give room to breath

It is like there's 3 levels to a metaphor here. David's Sandevestan made it so that he would be incredibly fast but be doomed to end soon and tragically. The life of a Cyberpunk is always going to be similar, burning bright and fast and ending tragically, and so is the show itself.

    • @YTAG33
      @YTAG33 2 года назад +2

David was kind of with with Lucy because Maine encouraged it and that was who he called. If that didn't happen it seems he could have found a better match with Rebecca. She likes David for who he was as a human and worries about him. Lucy is way less human and pretty oblivious that David is losing his humanity partly because of her.

Sure, the story could easily have supported 2-4 more episodes, or even another season. But I kind of prefer it this way. Life in Night City is fast paced, good things in particular are incredibly fleeting, and Reaper always comes calling long before your time. Best you can really hope for is getting off a burst of shots and final insult before it reduces you to a red splat. Structure like this doesn't make the show better, and I can understand how it detracts from someone's enjoyment, but it's very Cyberpunk.

3 seasons? Jesus. That’s so indulgent, that’s what happens in shows that care more about getting a good episode count for money and not just telling one concise story. This was a story about David, that’s it, this is what happens when there’s a clear vision for a story with no room for filler, and it’s good storytelling. Maybe you could argue adding one more episode or so, but the fact of the matter is that the show isn’t trying to be some larger saga with loads of subplots, it’s one story.

    Welcome to Trigger shows.
There are a few of their shows where there is a great multi stage, multi episode tournament arc set up against a stable of established tough bad guys and the main character just says f*** you all come at me in one go. One episode instead of a series, that's trigger speed and style.

Great reaction video. I get your first reaction that the show is moving at a fast pace and barraging you with events, but I would point out that I think that was the point, the life of an edgerunner is a non-stop fast paced roller-coaster of a life. David can't catch a break and he's a speeding train heading somewhere, and as the audience, we're hurled into it right alongside him: no break for us either.

The problem isn’t just the fast pacing because a lot of shows have fast pacing, the problem is that most of the first two episodes are examples of fast pacing that was done badly for the most part. Those episodes do look go through.
I feel like I can honestly recommend people skipping the first two episodes and they still can fully enjoy the show and that a sign of bad writing, the overall story is still really amazing but that doesn’t change the problems with how the beginning was setup and some of the core details that could have been added.

I think the show is expertly using all of it's time well.
I understand the feeling though, during episode 1 and 2 you wouldn't care if there was a second season, but you get so unexpectedly attatched to these characters who you've barely seen and start wanting soo much more of them to the point that you make excuses to explain why more of them would be better. I never felt the show was rushed, but I DID feel as if I wanted more family moments and fun times between the characters I like so I made the excuse that "This feels rushed" when I just wanted more and everything being shown was fine.
I even had the same feeling with Naruto, a decently long shonen anime, I felt like I would've enjoyed more time before Shippuden, just seeing all the characters get more and more fleshed out. But in the end it's only a need for more screen time with certain characters, it doesn't make the story worse but it would improve my personal experience with the characters I love.

Trigger has a little bit of a history of making quick paced short 10 episodes series for Netflix.
Sometimes it works (Little Witch Academia), sometimes not so much (BNA).
After their experience on BNA, where the first half is fantastic worldbuilding, then the second half is "quick quick quick, we have to do this, say this expose that, and finish this !", I'd say Edgerunners hits the sweet spot. It's consistently fast paced, all the while still sprinkling some teamwork and worldbuilding. The proof is that you actually love that team and all its members.
Sure, it could use for some more filler episodes, and be more normally paced if it was a normal season of 26 episodes, but I got the feeling lot of the issues you mentioned also had to do with budgeting. You've seen that some episodes have some insane animations sequences... stuck inbetween some loooong ass static shots with just the background and no animation when people are talking for 2 straight minutes. We've seen this already in some of their previous works (most famously Kill La Kill) and as a professional in the animation industry myself, while I have no insider infos on their budget for the show, I can already tell you that's a VERY clear sign that the show didn't have a massive budget to begin with, and that they had to spend it sparingly (and no, it's not because it's in partnership with Netflix that they've got a massive budget. If anything, Netflix is sadly pretty infamous for slapping Japanese studios with very meager budget compared to American animation shows, even if it's one of Japan's best, Trigger. I mean, heck, for some projects like Little Witch Academia, Trigger even had to beg on crowdfunding to complete their budget !).
So if it's already like that for a short 10 episodes show, imagine if it was dragged in 26 ? You'd have entire episodes of talking backgrounds, and that would have been dragging the pace of the entire show. Constraint is the mother of creativity, and so I guess their artistic decisions made perfect sense under these harsh conditions.
If you want to see the perfect Trigger show, you've got to watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, back in the days that team was still working at Gainax and haven't created Trigger Studio yet.
It's a hilariously epic 26 episodes mecha series of cosmic proportions (and I chose my words carefully), and the pacing is also super fast, and cut right in the middle in 2 big arcs with a time jump in between. But the 26 episodes models does leave for more time to really attach yourself to the characters (some of them being some of the most badass in Anime history). Some fillers in there, but overall, the series is legendary, and a must watch if you want to know more about Hiroyuki Imaishi's gang (I kinda see him and his fellas Yoh Yoshinari and Sushio and co as Maine, David, and their crazy crewmates !)

She was doing exactly what David’s mom was trying to do for him, and just like his mom she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then David killed the one he loved, just like Main did. To answer the question about the stutter phone calls, my take is that their reply stutters for the same reason we use "um" or "like" in conversation, to force the brain to slow down and try to form a concise reply. If you notice in the show, any time they physically speak a reply, their is no stutter. I thought it was a cool little detail to show off.

This episode absolutely breaks my heart. The conversation between David and Lucy after leaving the Ripperdoc is especially poignant. You can tell that, if Lucy had just said "That's it, let's walk away." David would have done it in a heartbeat, and they would have gotten an actual happily ever after...or as close as you can get to one in Cyberpunk.
But Lucy wouldn't stop tilting at her windmill, and David was only moving forward because he loves her so much.

15-20 episodes would have been better for all the reasons cited. But 10 works well enough. “Legend” is also supposed to be kinda ironic. Like Lucy said; You don’t make a name for yourself by how you live, but by how you die. Even then the “legends” of Night City are just dead mercs that got a drink named for them at Afterlife. Its an empty, wasteful thing to chase and yet its also the only worthwhile aspiration these people trapped in this system can see as even a possibility for them. The meaningless futility of it is kind of the point.

Strong agree that it's missing character beats. There's no clarification of the characters until their demise. We had too many episodes without Becca, but she worked out because of her interaction with David.
Falco shows up twice before being fully interactive with David in episode 7. He had two other appearances before then. Episode 4 should really have been split into two episodes, rather than condensing the entire characteristics of each of the Crew members into a single montage.

I think it seems more disjointed because you’re watching one episode a day which I get and look forward to your reactions for the last two episodes. When I watched it, it was over two days and the pacing, while fast, worked for me because it added to the tension and stress of the crew and David himself. It’s kind of like Uncut Gems where the pacing is intentional in order to add to the level of anxiety Adam Sandler’s character is feeling right up until the end where you’re practically begging for it to let up just like the character himself. It also kind of add gravity to the idea that Night City is a character in and of itself. There’s no slowing down. Life hits you fast and hard and how you make your mark is up to you.
That all being said I agree that I loved the show and characters so much that I wanted to see more of them. But I think it’s a testament to the story that I could grow so attached to these characters in such a short time.

There was an interview of the producer of the show that is part of CDPR that they showed the script to studio trigger and Trigger told CDPR and the producer that this will not work the show is made for a movie or a live action not for anime. Both studio went back and forth but most edit was done by trigger that is maybe one the reason for me not short but very dense.

It reminded me of HBO Rome, a story that has a great story, execution, and a decent ending but would have been greater if it was not cut down every shortly.

I think this show delivers the same feeling that the game has. When you are engaged with the story is really good, but you want to see and do more with the characters and the city, but the next thing already happen and that's not more to enjoy.

I know that a lot of people have issues about the pacing, but I can also understand why they did it. As the creator of the show you don’t know whether or not it’s going to get a second season. so it’s probably better to tell the entire story even though it might be a bit rushed, rather than telling an incomplete story and hoping it might get a second season.

Yes, the anime is a tad fast. But, I can understand, costs to animate and its a new anime IP so it is not known how it will or would land with the audience. Its popularity may well lead to more seasons.

Agree. It's a shame this wasn't a typical anime with 24 episodes. That's a sign of a great show...you always want more. Watching David watch David next episode should be interesting 😅

It depends with the de-chroming in the Tabletop version you can store your biological limbs/organs and keepdem in cryo for as long as you pay the fee for later reattaching but you can also just use normal prostetics that work just like normal bodyparts, no humanity loss with those and then no cyberpsychosis

I agree with all your points. The biggest criticism is that the series is too short with so much going on. The story could be told in just 1 season, but then it should've been a 24 episode season instead of 10 lol

  • @KittanBachika

That's the problem with anime... A lot of animes are insanely good, but they have very tight budget with no certainty that a season 2 will ever be a thing. So do you take the risk of only telling half of your story knowing that you could maybe never tell it in full.. or do your sprint through it? Only a small of anime have the chance to be popular enough to have a second season...
And this anime studio is known to only do single season anime... all their anime are insanely good. But they all are a wild ride that goes too quick. The anime studio is called "TRIGGER", that's why most people will say that you got "TRIGGERED". It's what they do, they'll make you wish it was 3 seasons.

There did seem to be a fairly low level of betrayal within the group, at least in comparison to most of my time spent running and playing the CP2020 version of the game some thirty years ago now. Night City eats up and spits out everyone, from the lowliest to the highest. Also, given how much animation costs these days I dare suspect they’re trying to knock it out of the park in one season, believing there will not be a second. I’m here for faster paced storytelling in general as a viewer or reader.
