One of the things that is kinda funny about that situation, is most of the people that are complaining about hollywood studios being woke, calling them evil....etc are ok with hollywood being really evil (crushing workers) because, you know, capitalism is cool....
When i worked as a boom op and grip, folks would be surprised at the amount of money the actors and crew are making. And mind you as a crew member, the money isn't as glamorous as folks think. Yes, the job might be fun, but when you look at the budgets and returns. Your chunk is a drop in the bucket. And in some cases, you wont receive residuals at all. The big names can command great salaries but for every big name, there are hundreds of working actors just trying to make some money to pay rent or a car note. Also, a lot don't qualify for health insurance either. Its a sad situation and I'm glad folks are waking up but i hope they see the big picture overall.
Yep -and many times you as a tech or extra have to travel to a location shoot around LA or in Cali on your own $$. "Different" work but definitely not the way I first envisioned...
@keyfield8967 I got lucky. I filmed mostly in my home state. The times I did work in Cali, I stayed with my dad's best friend. But yes, the crew has to come out of pocket for travel and accommodations. The system needs to be better all around and I hope they get what they need.
Tha by design keeps lower actor’s poor w/ pennies over and over so ever few years give more pennies again again so from .20 cents to .65 cents so the lower will never move fwd 😮….but the higher go from 100 million to 270 million dollars.
