I'm a Georgia fan, but Auburn's pregame eagle flight and Chief Osceola at FSU are both really impressive. I love watching stuff like that. Jump Around looks awesome too. I've never been to a game in Madison, but would love to go.
Something I like about FSU is their partnership with the Seminole Tribe of Florida seems to be genuine and mutually beneficial. I'm a Georgia fan, but I love it. Isn't it true that members of that tribe receive free tuition at the university, and that a class in Seminole history is extremely popular at the university? I know they worked with the tribe to include approved designs on part of their uniforms. In general, a lot of teams with Native "mascots" have cartoonish depictions and teams/schools make little to no effort to work with individual tribes or see what they find acceptable depictions , but FSU seems to handle things extremely well. Granted, I know there are members of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma who may have different views and I'm open to hearing their thoughts on the matter, but it certainly seems that the Seminole Tribe of Florida and FSU have both benefitted. From an outsider's perspective, it is refreshing to see what appears to be a school actually honoring Seminoles instead of mocking them like some schools do with indigenous groups.
My understanding is there are three different tribes that represent Seminole governments and the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma is the largest one and they categorically oppose the use of mascots by all sports teams including FSU. So much so, that on October 26, 2013, in particular they passed a tribal resolution to categorically condemn the use of all American Indian sports team mascots largely in response to FSU's undefeated season. Its not so black and white as josh seems to imply and still rather controversial.
It's a good list, and since you included Script Ohio it's legitimate. I think "Jump Around" at Wisconsin and the wave at the children's hospital at Iowa are deserving of honorable mentions.
@@cadbane7780 there's nothing I've ever experienced that touched on my primal fears quite like hearing a lion roar in person. It is an experience unlike anything else I've ever had
As a Sooner fan I'm a little biased. Boomer and Sooner traveling across the field with the Sooner Schooner is awesome. The drum major of the pride of Oklahoma going down the field with their back bent is crazy. The carrying of the other Big XII schools flags by the color guard is cool. The ruf/neks and lil sis behind the goal post shooting off the guns when a touchdown, extra point or field goal is scored or when a quarter ends is pretty amazing. The OU chant and finger raise and lowered during kickoffs is amazing. Players jumping and hitting the OU banner when they come out just gets me excited for the game. The Boomer Sooner call back chant before and during the game is so much fun. Everything about our traditions is amazing. If you haven't been to an OU home game I highly recommend it.
No longer do this but several former players from SEC schools that I know said it was so disturbing to run out of the tunnel in death valley and having Mike's cage right in front of you with him roaring.
Western Kentucky should be on the list. Considering they created the most iconic tradition ever, the rally towel. Every team uses the rally towel, but it really means something to WKU, unlike the others. It is the Hilltoppers tradition and is so well loved there a cherished, that it is the Hilltoppers logo.
