    I used to dream about a '59 caddy. But now I would much rather have a vw-bug.

    In the first part about a sound system fitted into the dash I had an experience where I fitted A Sony System which was a very tight fit causing the wiring to be pushed up under the window wiper apparatus. Drove the car in the rain, turned on wipers and the moving wiper action ripped up the wiring for the wipers, blowing fuses. I then removed the sound system and placed it underside of the dash. Todays sound systems are just too bulky to fit within the original factory dash cut out.

    Thanks for the info, I'm learning. Can you show how to replace seatbelts? I'm very happy with my '79 bug I bought on eBay without even seeing it and It brings us endless happiness, but the seatbelts are stiff, don't retract and I could use a few more inches of leeway. It's a convertible. Any help you could give is appreciated!

    So, if the 68 and later plastic dash is removed, the dash (underneath) could go back to full metal if the plastic dash was removed when the car is painted?

    I think I would like a real vintage radio whether it’s works or not, but I’d like an aux somewhere to play music of a phone , without ruining the dash

    You said the vin tag is missing and normally you walk away from it. Why is it a problem?

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs 4 года назад +2

      If the VIN is missing, you have a very devalued bug then, or any car for that matter. Resale value really drops, and you may never know if the car is matching or not. If you don't care about the VIN, that's fine. But if the time comes to sell the bug for whatever reason, you probably won't get what you would like or what you have in it if you performed restoration on it. As time goes on, we might be finding more and more bugs without VIN tags.
