I'm not in a woman's body, but you are one of my absolute favourite practitioners for so many reasons. I'm a 40 year old in a male body--but don't actually identify as such--and your energy, style, and communication talents are just lovely. Glad your work is reaching more and more people.
absolutely fantastic content producer! so nice to see someone teaching yoga and flexibility who looks like a real person! She's seriously fit, but not a starved contortionist with implants! Her approach is so encouraging with realistic guidance, encouraging you to push, but also to accept what your body gives you from this. I'm glad that some people find the spiritual aspects of yoga paramount and have dedicated their lives to the practice, but it's hard for me to identify with. Also, good setting- a real home, not some wild uber resort/retreat, no Himalayan salt lamps, no wafts of patchouli :)
I love your approach! I have strength and endurance. Flexibility is my challenge. My genetics have given me stiffness and I’m chronically tight as well. I’m a work in progress. Your explanation helps a lot - I’m going to incorporate your ideas into my workouts. Thank you!
You did a video on hamstrings a while back that focus on nerve flossing for flexibility- you should do a full series on that… I feel like that compliments this idea well of stiffness vs tightness. I was really really dedicated to ROM WOD stretching service, but to no results. I think a “nerve flossing” type of stretch routine would be a game changer
What I took from this video is that the tell for tightness is the perception of high intensity/“pain” when stretching, while for stiffness, your muscles really resist stretching, but it’s not painful - you can add force/weight to the stretch to go further. I know I have tight muscles over stiff muscles because stretching to my range limit feels incredibly intense and I wouldn’t DREAM of adding more force! I have to move slowly with a lot of deep breathing and distraction from the sensation.
Thank you - a very timely video - recently diagnosed with the beginnings of degenerative disc disease - I had a very similar convo with my physical therapist. Really helped me to better understand what I was experiencing.
Hi Liv - I love your videos - would appreciate it if you would do a video on side planks 😢 - I’ve done yoga and Pilates for years and am reasonably strong and flexible but struggle to raise my body up from a side position - help😊
Great explanation! It rings true to my experience. I have found adding the strength training through full and at end range and focusing on relaxing my breath in the deep stretches to be the things that held me back for years.
Very interesting. I didn't know about the difference. I've been stretching for so long I've come to associate the mild discomfort of a stretch as a positive since it means I'm advancing. (I endeavor never to push into straight-up pain and risk injury.)
I try to do some Workout 3x the week. A little streching, 40min Crosstrainer and some little reps for Back, chest,Arms and legs. I like your Videos very much and i realy envy for your progress😅 Your smile and voice make my Day 😊 i can hear it over hours
Hi. I just discovered your channel recently and really enjoy your videos. I was wondering whether you could do something on progressing the crow hold? I've got a pretty steady, solid crow - I can balance and hold it quite well, but as soon as I move to take a knee off my arms I collapse! I'm not quite sure what the cues are to make progress here, or how to train to break through this barrier. Thanks!
I know that this might not be the right area to ask, but, I would love to see a video that pairs yoga asanas and strength training exercises for the whole body, if that makes any sense at all. I've just started both back up after years away. 😅 Building them equally at the same time feels right to me. Thoughts from a curious new fan.🙂
I have Stiff Person Syndrome so according to your descriptions it seems I may have both stiff and tight muscles as SPS is a neurological disorder. Do you agree? Should I do a combination of the stretching techniques? Thank you!
How can I recognize which is the bigger limiting factor for me? Also, you didn't mention myofascial release. I suppose that addresses part of the stiffness?
I was in top notch shape at 55. 99 pds no fat all muscle. Had a issue with life and I have not exercised in two years. I can do a couple workouts, but I can’t stick to it. Now I weigh 110. And I can’t even even touch my toes. I can’t do anything like I used to and I was excellent at stretching was my thing. And Pilates. Two little for the machines little bit of free weight and that was it every morning. I used to get up at 5:30 work out for, maybe an hour fantastic now I’m so stiff. I can’t move. Or tight? Lol I’m gonna figure that out right now. I get the energy back.
She's from the UK. That's how it's pronounced and it's spelt aluminium. We do the same in Australia. American English spells and pronounces it 'aluminum'.
Before I harm myself, lols, does this mean that only certain people are capable of doing splits due to genetics? Please forgive me if this is a stupid question.
@@zanewalsh1812Dude mostly by sitting in a bad posture since childhood our body has become so hard that we cant do splits. Most of these people have been doing this since they were kids. Kids can do this easily because their body is flexible
These videos are useful but why not just title it "Muscle stiffness vs tightness"? All your videos have clickbaity titles which makes them hard to organise or rewatch.

Great, so how to you determine whether you're tight or stiff?

@@blyssedbe Thanks, that helps. Would that include cramps when doing a quad stretch?
@@tas1624 I haven’t the slightest.

Thank you so much for that info. I have been doing yoga for a couple of years and so worried about being not flexible enough. That’s really helpful!

Ive always seen it as stiffness is something you need to work out like kneading bread and tightness is an overworked muscle overkneaded bread
You're the best!
I have just tighor stiff glutes. CouId I add load while doing pigeon stretch? What would the best exercises?
you look very good for your 48.. my mom is also 48 but looks a bit older maybe 2/3 years
What about muscle weakness!?

I think it's a fair question, and I suspect that you are right - some of us are probably 'genetically' incapable of performing the splits.
@@zanewalsh1812 I certainly hope that I'm not one of those people! Lols jk jk.

That's the RUclips game unfortunately. Click bait titles get more clicks
That’s the world we live in now, fools get drawn constantly into clickbaits lol.
Because clickbait shit is What RUclips rewards creators play the game as they should and people like you will cry either way
Just save the video links to a document and title/organise them however you like
You probably would never found her channel if she didn't do it like that
