Nice Work, I was always curious about this. I wonder what the efficiency of the gas fire place is in heating the home without the the fan? Based on your video the electricity use is minimal, so why not use it. I dont have a fan, at least one that works. I wonder what percentage of heat I am wasting with out the fan? maybe it is all going out the vent? Thanks again for the video.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I run the fan just to help with circulation, and it doesn't take much electricity. Ours throws out a good amount of heat even without the fan on.
Nice video. A shame that manufacturers think we all want to imitate a coal or log fire so they give us lazy blue flames or even yellow flames that are not burning the gas efficiently. I'm in the UK and have an old gas fire that imitates (not very well) an `orange hot' coke fire (the gas is burnt with a proper aerated burner similar to what you would find in an old gas fired boiler of that era). I like the fact that yours has got a fan which must increase the efficiency by cooling down the heat exchanger.
This video doesn't look that old, but here in Ontario, it appears to cost $3.15 CAD to run for 12hrs. That's much more expensive! As reference, I got a bill for $160.13 last year for a consumption of 433 cubic meters of natural gas.
please check cost of home furnace for comparison, great info!
This was extremely helpful! Thanks for the info! :)
Useful. Thank you. Considering putting one in a rental.

Natural gas is much cheaper than electricity where I am. That's why I use the furnace instead of heat pump.
