Michael Jordan buzzer beater: Bulls vs Hornets, 1997

  • Fresh off recording the first-ever triple double in an All-Star game, Michael Jordan showed the Charlotte Hornets why he is the greatest player in the world.
    Ironically enough, the Bulls' first opponent after the All-Star break was the Hornets, whose best player, Glen Rice, won MVP honors in the 1997 All-Star game.
    Rice had a solid game against the Bulls, scoring 32 points on 9 of 17 shooting.
    But as he always does, Michael Jordan put on the cape, scored 43 points and hit a game-winning three at the buzzer to give the Bulls a 103-100 win.
    MJ hit 16 of 24 shots and made 10 of 14 free throws.
    Scottie Pippen had a terrible game, offensively, scoring just five points on 2 of 13 shooting.

    Eastern conference was so strong in 1997. Hornets were 54-28 and only were a 6th seed that year.

    God damn, the enthusiasm Johnny Kerr had, the voice crack when he said "I can't believe it" gets me every time.

    Bulls on WGN with Johnny Redd Kerr were the best, it was a great time to be a Bulls fan in Chicago back in the 90's.

      Kerr with Laravee on WGN or Kerr with Tom Dore on the local sportschannel were both excellent sportscast teams for the Bulls.......i actually did not care for the NBC games as Marv Albert and Bill Walton I felt were lightweights compared to those guys.....

    • @edmondlau511
      @edmondlau511 2 месяца назад +1

      @@80sNewWaveGeekI didn’t mind Marv and Bill but Matt Goukas could be a richard at times. But they were much better than Costas with anyone else. Costas is just one of those holier than thou types of guy who thinks he’s smarter and better than everyone else.

    • @80sNewWaveGeek
      @80sNewWaveGeek 2 месяца назад

      @edmondlau511 Marv was effective, though it seemed at times that the three of them (Marv, Matt, Bill) were just going through a by-the-numbers routine. I always thought the productions of the NBA telecasts on NBC were more effective than the sportscast teams.

    My father took me to this game and he got the tickets for free from his meat supplier, watching the "Last Dance", has brought joy and remembrance of my time with my father. Also Seeing my all time favorite athlete in real life hitting a game winning shot is priceless! Also living in Toronto I am a raptors fan so was cool to see Dell Curry play in real life too!!

    At this point MJ wasn't tryin to dunk on everyone or take the ball to the whole that much, but as you can see the fadeaway jumper became the new weapon. Also it's noticeable how even at his age (34) that MJ who was not as quick as he once was, of course not, still was quicker than his opponents!

    at 5:31 i just love when he crosses the ball over and splits the defenders that he crosses it over so low and fast that the defenders cant even touch the ball and it just bounces right in front of him so it sets himself up for another move to the basket or a shot or pass its like another triple threat..mans a genius and wen he went to dunk if that was young jordan he woulda dunked on them all cuz u can see him take flight and hit a notch just a little higher than all the other players

    great upload foremily23!!
    in this game mj's pace is a bit relaxed to me. maybe the hornets defense was relaxed too.. he made all the shots so effortlessly, like this is just a pick up game. the play on 5:31 is crazy. with only two dribble he cut right through into the lane for a potential dunk, that kind of efficiency set him apart.
    not that it is important but the final game winner looks like a 2pt to me, since his foot might touch the line.

    @mrmacross I think that Jordan leaned off of Bogues because he was playing his odds a bit. Although Bogues had some success that year from beyond the arc, historically, Bogues was not a good 3-pt shooter. That time, it didn't work for Mike.

    Hard to believe this was merely a regular season game. Oh how fans were treated to great basketball back then. Today's NBA is just so dull and attending game is more about the food, the half-time show and buying merch before the game. The actual game itself is pretty much garbage.

    @jonnieos im just a nubie...but 1 thing that i know that pippen in 87 is 'unknown'(not superstar)
    so if jordan is lebron....i know for sure that he must find another team to find a good teamate!
    but he choose to still in bulls n rise a relationship with pippen,know each other,share knowledge n time together until pippen is 1 of the best basketball player with jordan. and finnaly bulls make it.
    so for me lebron is good player who find a teammate to 'make it',but jordan 'make' a teammate
    peace.

Kobe had gasol, odom, bynum, and artest who is a defensive specialist to win his next 2. Bird had mchale, parrish, and dennis johnson, Magic had kareem and worthy. Are you guna put an asterisk next to their names? It doesnt matter who he plays with because lebron has become the leader and playmaker for the heat. He has wade and an overrated bosh.
