Its opinionated towards the artist if they want a full mix coming in as they track the vocals vs if they want a light mix so they dont have all the crazy shit. Sometimes its easier to track a normal vocal then add all the cool effects or stuff you're doing to it after. It really just depends on how you want to do it. Theres not really a correct way fr.

Switching will take time but can 100% pay off depending what you’re going for. I use a Rode NT1 to track vocals.
