Just because it’s LAMINATE doesn’t mean it’s JUNK! | MCM Dresser Makeover

- Laminate furniture gets a bad wrap but it’s often pretty quality stuff. I was expecting the drawers on this dresser to be wood that I could stain. That plan didn’t work out! It’s ok though. This is still a great MCM piece that I can makeover and make useful again.

This dresser is stunning, even though we don't get to see all the hard work that goes into you're projects I for one really appreciate it. 😁
Love your restorations and wish I could complete a nice piece in 12 minutes the way you do. Also, THANK YOU for having the where with all to speak English with proper grammar. Sooo many influencers have no idea how badly they sound. “Any ways I like these ones”” 😮
I normally am not a fan of original hardware on older furniture but these are really nice. You do great restoration work Katie. I enjoy watching your videos and learn so much. Thank you.
Dapper is the perfect description for this piece! Amazing what a little paint can do. I really love the finish, so smooth and polished. You are awesome Katie! 💖💖💖
Oh I wish more people were painting the pieces like this and leaving the beautiful wood antiques alone. This is just stunning.
That Dresser looks beautiful. What a transformation. Great Job! Cathleen
Between your eye for color and video skills, I enjoy your videos so much.
I'm speechless. Bravo. Looks amazing
Gorgeous work Katie!
That looks like an admirable navy blue with gold pulls. It is awesome.
This dresser is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the navy blue color and that gold hardware just pops.
Soooo Beautiful! The Navy is perfect!
Another triumph! I especially appreciate that you explain why you make each choice in your process.
One of your finest!
I do love the color you've picked up for this project, you've got a sleek and elegant finish for this piece. I have a bulky dresser and I wasn't quite sure about painting it in navy blue but now I'm sure I'll go ahead and paint it in navy blue.
What a wonderful finished piece. Color and wood legs look great.
Absolutely gorgeous Katie.
I usually prefer a brushed nickle or antique look for hardware, but I love the way this piece turned out! What an amazing transformation!
Absolutely stunning, regal!
Very nice make over. Was probably one step away from the land fill and now has a whole new life.
That is really lovely, the drawers look fantastic!
Wow amazing transformation Katie. Love what you did.

It’s absolutely STUNNING!
Very classic and handsome! The color combo and shape of the handles give this a military/pilot vibe.
Very handsome indeed! I was worried at first and then settled down when you pulled out that original hardware. The dark blue is wonderful. Amazing that you had leftovers of it. Now you are probably going to buy more because it's such a beauty. Lol
Oh wow……really pretty! I’m not a fan of blue, but that piece is stunning and might just change my mind. 👍
Gosh that’s gorgeous!

Nice! Color is beautiful against the hardware. Thanks for sharing, Katie.
This is beautiful. I like you could use the original hardware. It looks so different on the refinished piece and complements the legs. Great job
Great save. I’m not a fan of navy blue but this works wonderfully.

I love it!😍
Excellent!!
Love what you did with that piece!!! And you are a wonderful teacher!
The blue goes very well with the gold handles. It does indeed look "dapper"!! I love how neat the finish is too: pulling out the drawers to show the perfect paintjob was a great addition! Lovely work! (sorry for the inane comment: I always make inane comments, but I hope at least it helps your channel and the great work you do). Kindest regards, k
😂 I appreciate any comments you want to leave!
I love watching your videos. Thank you so much for making them. The music and your narratives along the way are perfect.
This navy dresser with the gold accents and wooden legs is beautiful. I am not a fan of mid century but this one is super. I am very attracted to navy painted furniture and do not own any. Our house is mostly a mix. I do have my mothers original china closet probably from the 30's-40's? Not sure. It's veneer and most of it is in good condition. It has a glass door and glass side lights which are wavy glass. Then a narrow drawer and legs below. I would love to paint it navy and put a mirror in the back to reflect the china and antique depression glass I store in it. It's a big step to paint it and not sure if its a good idea. Any suggestions? Can I send you a photo of it?
so nice.
Nice.😊
Nice!
This looks a lot like the dresser I just painted! I was able to sand down the bottom two drawers and keep the wood on the front and the original hardware is to die for. I love this shade of navy. I used Dixie Belle in deep sea and it’s very close to this same color. Love this!
Nice! I’ll take navy in any shade 💙 it always looks crisp.
Wow!!!!
To the question of veneer, check out "Dashner Design & Restoration" specifically the video:"How do I tell if it's solide wood or veneer? What is wood veneer? Is veneer a Bad thing?". It answers some questions, very interesting!
Dashner has great videos and teaches a ton. This is not a wood veneer however. It’s a laminate veneer. I’ve also got several videos on the topic and ways to identify them. Sometimes you make assumptions though and end up getting surprised.
Loved it!! I follow you
Very handsome!
Do you have any videos where you repair the drawer slides/tracks that are inside the dresser? I have a piece that has damaged slides and I am trying to figure out the easiest/cheapest/most effective way of doing that.
You should be able to find new runners and guides on Amazon and a lot are pretty easy to swap out.
Why sometimes you use 400 grid sand paper between coats and other times you use 220 🤔.Thanks!
I haven’t used 220 between coats for years! It’s too course for smooth sanding. 220 is more of a scuff sand to create texture before painting.
@@salvagedbykscott oh ok, I was confuse because I see that some painters use 220 to scuff sand and to smooth it out, and they don’t talk about 400 grid or 1000 grid paper.I asked you because you know better than me and I’m learning with you. Thanks again for all your videos.Merry Christmas 🙏🏻
You did a phenomenal job on this piece. Do you feel this water base primer does just as good of a job as bin shellac primer for laminate? That would be great because I have to paint my furniture inside during the winter months. Thanks
So far I’ve really liked it for stain blocking and sealing porous surfaces. It’s the best alternative to shellac that I’ve found!
@@salvagedbykscott that's great to hear. Thanks for the the quick reply. You are a true artist!

👍👍👍
Simply stunning and elegant on those beautiful legs. Love it!
