- During the Second World War, inside of the Third Reich doctors became murderers and executioners. One of the most senior doctors was Karl Brandt, who was Hitler's own escort doctor. Brandt was in charge of the Aktion T4 programme, and he was involved in the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people and he organised their deaths. Karl Brandt was a ruthless doctor, and he was also involved in experiments inside of the concentration camps. For his crimes he was executed inside of Landsberg Prison.

Just to put it out there, other countries participated in this kind of practice as it was seen as normal. Sweden comes to mind as having special wards designed for this, but of course not on an industrial level as in Germany. The cruelty was just as horrible, where in Sweden doctors would just let them starve, or perform experiments on them, like the Vipeholm experiments.

Was this not the war that Hitler won? Why was not Karl Brandt celebrated like the rocket scientist who begun the Apollo program? Forgive my being obtuse, but was there not a vibrant eugenics movement, nay program, within much of Europe at the time? Had there not been a war every European nation would have eagerly followed his example, perhaps they already had. What of the British surgeon who in the 1970s prescribed 'Normal Nursing Care' for an unwanted baby, care that meant it was painlessly starved to death and was acquitted of murder then manslaughter in the High Court? Thank you for the video. It was very informative and, perhaps can serve to provide a yardstick by which can be measured how low we can sink and our warped measure of how we value vulnerable members of society. Perhaps we could do no less than get our own house in order and stop eugenics now.
A handful of crazy doctors acting with bad faith or malicious intent do not make for an eugenics policy by governments.
Not just Europe but the United States as well. Hundreds of women were forcibly sterilized, many without even knowing it. And now children with Trisomy 21 , which is in no way a “fatal fetal abnormality” aborted at the rate of 67%. Parents either babies of other conditions are routinely advised, even encouraged to abort.
I always thought the Germans n Japanese were cultured people.

What is fascinating is that now, women can get their foetus tested for problems and if they are serious can opt to have an abortion. Not to dismilar of what Brandt did. I agree with those women though, but do find the similarities fascinating.
