I went to Sogo Department store in Yokohama once and was at the front door for the opening, along with hordes of other customers. They did the bowing ritual and then opened the doors, at which time there was a sudden, mad rush (of customers) to the elevator doors, but no one went to the escalator. I needed to go to the 9th or 10th floor--I don't remember which--so I thought I would be smart and head to the escalators to avoid the rush. I did avoid the rush. In fact, I was the one and only person on the escalator and, at each and every floor, there was a manager and two workers standing there, watching me slowly rise to their level. Under such scrutiny, the ride up seemed to last an eternity. As I arrived, they would greet me and bow deeply until I had walked past them. It was really embarrassing and my face became redder and redder on each floor until, when I finally reached my destination, I was completely worn out and drained of all energy. I'm sure there must have been greeters in front of the elevator on each floor, too, but I'm sure it would have been nowhere near as stressful in a crowd.
The service is really bad. They are not even bowing properly. Just awful. You have customers waiting outside, and you don’t let them enter the store. That’s bad. Customer is always given the priority. If the customers are there, you open the doors. Is it that difficult to understand?? I think the staff at this store are just stupid.
You must be brought up in a very different place to have such high standards..I would be amazed if people even did this in my place.. They probably have a reason why they still didn’t open..
