I've never heard audibly and am still on the journey but I found it started with just reading the Bible (which is His word/voice) and a thought/verse from the Bible coming to my mind randomly as something to do or not do in a moment... and now its sort of becoming where randomly even outside of an immediate situation I get in my mind an explanation for something that I know didn't originate from me (either wasnt thinking about that thing or it's soo insightful I know I didn't have that level of knowledge before). This was something I used to really wonder about at the beginning of my walk with God and thought it was for super spiritual beings and pastors- but I now know that when we call on God and stay close to Him- reading His word to understand Him- we start to know Him (and His voice)- and fortunately our ability to detect false doctrine also increases. I asked the exact question youre asking in 2017 so I have an idea where you're coming from

For me it's like a quiet whisper in my spirit.
