Brian has been and still is many things to me. Most recently probably mostly a good friend, business partner, big ball of fun and sometimes stress, and much, much more. In this episode, we explore his past and present in the Nosara community in a candid conversation.
Many will know Brian in some capacity, many of which in the capacity of a seasoned real estate agent in Nosara. However, he is much more than this and here he shares his intriguing journey from Catalina Island to becoming an integral part of the Nosara community. We delve into key aspects of Brian's life, his family's connection to Nosara, the intricacies of real estate, conservation efforts, and his unique perspective on the town's development.
Originally from Catalina Island, California, Brian Bombard relocated to Nosara in 2004. His family played a pivotal role in establishing Harbor Reef, and Nosara became a constant retreat for Brian. Despite considering other coastal locations in Costa Rica, the Bombards' and Brian's connection to Nosara strengthened, leading to their permanent move.
Nosara became Brian's sanctuary, prompting his decision to make it his permanent home. We hit a couple of lighter turns as Brian reminisces about his early days, including his first car in Nosara and amusing anecdotes that capture the essence of living in a developing coastal town.
To me, Brian has changed tremendously, especially in the last couple of years and we explore this transformation from a carefree adventurer to a dedicated family man with him. The conversation touches on his past party-centric lifestyle, prompting reflections on transformative moments that steered him towards a more committed work life.
We take our time to discuss the delicate balance between real estate development and conservation efforts in Nosara. Brian, as few others can, understands the challenges faced by real estate agents and emphasizes the positive impact, guiding responsible development and helping clients sustainably achieve their dreams. This sparks the critical question about the apparent contradiction between Brian's involvement in real estate and his family's commitment to wildlife conservation. Brian provides insights into the family's wildlife refuge, explaining how real estate activities fund their conservation efforts.
From there we dive deeper into the challenges posed by Nosara's growth and the need for building regulations in Nosara. We discuss the integral parts from the previously imposed regulations and search for common ground. Just as the social scientists confirmed we are about 90% aligned on most everything in Nosara but communication is key in getting to practical solutions which we desperately need!
Brian further reflects on this fine line between embracing development and preserving the town's natural allure and the need for sustainable building practices. His insights into real estate, conservation, and community development provide a nuanced perspective on navigating the challenges and opportunities inherent in a rapidly evolving coastal town. Brian's commitment to preserving the unique charm of Nosara while facilitating responsible growth reflects a dedication to both community and environment.

Guiones is and will always be special. Natural beauty, gracious people and approachable waves. Annual visitor for decades. Harbor Reef was so fun for my kids. All adults now and return when they can. We remember the genesis of the animal rescue and sanctuary and the Toucans and other animals being well cared for in the kindness of the Bombards loving hands. Rich and Brian always friendly in the lineup or in town. The moral dilemma selling real estate in paradise cant be easy, however the knowledge , insight and unified goal to maintain vital flora and fauna is not lost. Your history in the community is a benefit to newer visitors looking to make inroads. Keep conscious thought and mindful action to continue on your path of preserving as much as you can providing commerce and and an economic benefits for local generations Growth is inevitable and grumpy transplants may need to move on the to the next "end of the road" . See you in a few weeks
