when I was 7 my dad used to say Star Trek is so predictable, he wasn't wrong and he'd worked in the film industry so he'd see it all.
since I was 2 he brought me to film sets for free baby sitting services and first film I ever saw by myself was Hercules '97, I was 7. I also went alone to 2001 Spirited away and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Lord of the Rings, just by myself in cinemas, paid with caroling and chores money. And embassies gave free film viewings to students as outreach programs.
There will always be slop, but the good films stand the test of time...most times. I do have a personal archive of lost gems, ripped from TV with VHS. I'd love to get my hands on high rez versions but I fear they are lost forever. Small productions are most vulnerable, studios long dead.
