There’s always something amazing about Speed Highway with its stunning visuals of the time and its intricate level design. The idea of being able to speed through a sparkling busy city at night, running down an extremely tall building, and then exploring the lower section of the streets at sunrise was something that Sonic Team hadn’t yet explored at the time they had been developing Sonic Adventure (1998). That’s why people who played the game love the level so much.
I always love it when Sonic games have big city areas to play in. Exploring cities in video games is always fun and being able to do that as Sonic the Hedgehog makes it even better.
I don't get 1989 from this. I get 1995 - 2002 vibes. I don't mean because of when it's released either. Literally the world they're portrayal feels like that era of life from the style of architecture and color palette as well as the style of the cars.
@@doomslayerthesentinel.6707 the 90's had a bit of that look too, wasn't as much of an idea of a clear decade difference in style back then aside from technology and high end designs. one of the common things you might be seeing is the way old lights flared out film photographs that were doing long exposure for night shots, the golden windows and deep blue spotlights

The level always gave me 1998 vibes (I was born 5 years earlier).
Unrelated but in 2011 my dad got me a sega genesis, that was the only console I ever owned. That got me into sonic.
Maybe if you upload another video playing this level with City Pop music playing in the background it’ll fully feel like the 80s😊
This is such a good idea.
Couldn't agree more.
Same, Im literally playing this game right now but the dx version, my favorite sonic game ever
Goated game
Dreamcast textures make Station Square look like it's not set in USA but Eastern Europe. At Dawn section music too
How?
@@doomslayerthesentinel.6707 "colorful", random buildings is pretty 90s post communism
@@togguleru6915 hmm, I can see that. But the building styles feel like US. But again I've never been to Europe or the US.
@@doomslayerthesentinel.6707 possible that the style was burrowed from usa. eastern europe had an unhealthy obsession with the west back then.
Directly from Redream Emulator.
Nice clickbait content slave

What does the Open Your Heart guitar riff symbolize?

the game came out in 1998 and it makes more sense to say it has that vibe

"I get 1995 - 2002 vibes".
It's 1999, not 1989
Released in 1999 but radiates 1989 energy.

Even then, TECHNICALLY it's 1998.
