    Great video - just one question. Is there an upgrade path from Essentials to the Standard version?

      Thanks for the feedback and question. Unfortunately, you cannot add any more users/devices (above the original 25) or upgrade from Essentials to Standard. You'll have to buy a whole new license for Standard, plus any CALs you'll need as well.
      i.e. if your company has 20 or so staff and you think it likely you'll add any more in the next few years it's probably best to go for Standard rather than Essentials as this will save you money long term. - JG

      @@scanitsolutions Thanks for the reply and advice. Seems an oversight on Microsoft's part.

      Essentials is a joke. The PC I built back in 2015 had too many cores and too much RAM.

      @@anintrestedparty7750 It's not an oversight. They are trying to encourages businesses to go to Standard strait away by not giving them an upgrade path. Also the licensing model is completely different, so arguably it is not a continuation of the same path, but requires hopping over to a new path. Ie; should your small business all of a sudden grow, you buy Windows Server and migrate your users and devices progressively to it and phase out Essentials.
      Keep in mind that licensing depends on the use case. I am interested in Essentials specific for its limited capabilities as we have a large number of Windows Servers each with a few clients; where Standard or Datacenter don't make economic sense.

    Hi what will happen if I buy server essential and I will want to have more than 25 users ? Do I have to upgrade for standard ?

    • @scanitsolutions
      @scanitsolutions  Год назад +2

      I'm afraid there is no upgrade path, you'd have to buy Standard at full price. If you have around 20 users now and think you may add more in the near future its worth going for Standard from the get go as this will save you money in the long term. - JG

    I dont get the virtual machine limitation in the standard version (2)
    Does that mean I only can have 2 vms in the same bare metal or cluster for example?? Or that that vm can virtualize 2 vms itself?? 😅😅

      that VM can only virtualize 2 VM's itself

    We have purchased Windows Server 2022 Essentials, installed with the product key given to us for Windows Server 2022 Essentials. After the installation, and checking on the installed OS (Winver command), it shows Windows Server 2022 Standard, not Essentials. Is it normal ? Did Microsoft just include Essentials into the Windows Server 2022 standard ?

      The screenshot will really help us diagnose how Windows has been licensed on your server, if you attach it when you have some free time you we'll still take a look. You could upload to a file transfer service such as Wetransfer or email the image with your details to business@scan.co.uk -JG
