Thanks for keeping us true Mazda fans updated. Your videos are more informative than Mazdas own website. I have a 21 Mazda6 and an 01 Miata SE so I’m a big fan of the brand.
Great video! Made it here by way of your 2nd gen CX-5 lineup comparison video. I appreciate all the info you provide. It’s concise while remaining detailed, and you provide good forecasts without getting too speculative. Looking forward to more videos✨
Hopefully the CX-5 retains its independent rear suspension. The CX5 is supposed to get a completely different hybrid developed by Mazda, which would have already been in development because of the large platform hybrids.
I think they are trying to avoid those types of systems based on complexity and cost that would be placed on the vehicles. However, if they are wanting to move into the premium space, they have to do something of that nature for shoppers to take them seriously. If they continue a trend of moving upmarket those features are common and expected for smoother ride and handling.

They already have a PhEV for the CX-60/70/90. Mazda unfortunately had some problems with that drivetrain when it was introduced in Europe. The system was not so smooth on the transition between electric and hybrid mode. As far as I know, they solved the problems with a software update. I think, that this Mazda hybrid is quite complicated. My choice would be an EREV (EV with range extender) which is always powered by electric motors. The engine works only a generator.
Hey there. Trying to find out if the new cx 50 hybrid will still tow 3500? That’s my only decision maker right now about buying a hybrid or non hybrid.
Hello! I came to know this news at our local TopGear publication, here in the Philippines. Good to know that Mazda still retains the CX5, and because of how really popular it is worldwide. I’m a big big fan of the CX5 and hoping to see the new 3rd gen soon!
Thanks for coming through on the EZ-6. The 6 should definitely get the inline 6 treatment. I would especially love to see two body styles like they do with the 3. Particularly a sedan and a sportback.
I've seen hints of a Mazda small rotary engine that drives a generator that drives electric motors. Any word on that?
Месяц назад
This is the Mazda MX-30 R-EV. Unfortunately the electric range js very limited and the rotary engines is not very efficient. But I like that concept. Many Chinese cars are like that. They called them EREV, extended range electric vehicle.
I’m not even sure about the hybrids since they dont really save anything since u gotta pay for all the extra parts and battery and u have to replace it after 10years. So what did u really save on the mpg

I thought you initially noted that the CX-5 was going to have the Toyota Hybrid system. Now you are saying Mazda will be developing their own Hybrid system. Am I missing something Jonathan?
i'd love to know because we are on a lease extension of our current cx5 right now. dont really want the same vehicle again we've alreay had two of the current gen.
I would prefer a revolution to the Mazda driver cockpit experience first that includes equal active safety systems to other competitors. For example, just benchmark the latest Camry which shouldn’t be hard to do on both fronts, add a touch of Mazda refinement, and all will be good. There will be significant updates to competitor vehicles in this segment at around the same time (RAV4, Outback, etc) so Mazda needs to bring it.
Bet you this is literally just a modified 2.5 Liter PHEV just made into a hybrid and lacking the plug in option. I don't see Mazda developing a whole new drivetrain with an architecture which will be replaced in a couple years when the 5 is redesigned.
Do you think the 2026 Mazda CX-70 will ever shrink in size to be closer to a wide-body CX-60? I think the 2026 CX-5 should be renamed CX-70 and the current CX-70 should become the CX-90 Sport. Ultimately, the model range should be CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90.
This was announced 3 weeks ago by Mazda - but I appreciate Jonathan going over it as well. Basically, Mazda cannot get rid of it in America since they sell 300,000 cars every year and 154,000 was sold of this single model in 2023 which is half of their sales. So no, they are not discontinuing it and as a bonus the new hybrid system coming next year will be from Mazda for the first time, not Toyota (this video says it is 2025). ruclips.net/video/04ST0_KprBk/видео.html We did buy a CX-5 ourselves, a 2023 that was slightly used (3000 miles on it) for $10,000 off - a great deal for a great car.
I want a CX5 to replace my aging Scion xB so bad, but it would just be irresponsible of me at this point to buy a car with 25mpg average - both for the environment and for my wallet. CX5 hybrid, depending on the driving dynamics, would be an insta-buy for me.
They’re not going full electric.. Just look at the billions Ford has lost.. Every manufacturer has scaled back & has EVs r piling up on the lots. No infrastructure & range anxiety is real. Toyota knew this & r the kings of hybrids which people want.
On the CX-50 hybrid... love the Hybrid Synergy drive... sure hope it's paired with a Mazda transmission tho... 2025 models need a little more headroom in the back seat; a 220 hp hybrid version at 40 mpg would be sweet. On CX-5... perhaps the 2026 model will have the PHEV used in the CX-90, then they can move to a pure hybrid model in 2027; also hope the CX-5 is a little wider. On the CX-70... still a really lazy design and overpriced; please make the 2026 version sportier.
