When I see clip shows like this I realise how repetitive and homogeneous our mainstream media is. Basically she was asked the same 3 questions by each host and failed/outright refused to answer each time.

The way the Tories talk about this issue is as if they weren't in government for the past 13 years. They use this issue to distract from other failures such as the cost of living, housing, corruption etc because, unfortunately, a large segment of the population fall for it.
It's such an obvious distraction, but when the majority of Brits seem to revel in complete bigotry it works. This country is such a joke when you compare our asylum claims to Germany or France. Brainrot and ignorance is easy for the masses who don't care about facts. This issue was made by the Tories so they could 'fix' the mess they made brag about it.

Finally!! I think that is the first time a presenter that I have seen to challenge the politcian on saying it is "illegal" to travel here to claim asylum when it isn't. We are a signatory to the 1951 UNHCR Refugee Convention, it says anyone can claim asylum here no matter how they arrive. @0:45 Well done Kay Burley.
Chapter V: Article 31
Article 31 of the UN Refugee Convention 1951 states that refugees should not be penalized for illegal entry or presence in a country, provided they present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their illegal entry or presence. The article reads as follows:
"The Contracting States shall not impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence, on refugees who, coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened in the sense of article 1, enter or are present in their territory without authorization, provided they present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their illegal entry or presence."
Therefore, under international law, the UK government is prohibited from rejecting an asylum claim solely on the basis of how the individual arrived in the country, as long as they can demonstrate that their entry was necessary to escape persecution or other serious threats to their life or freedom.
It doesn't matter what some of the politicians say, it doesn't matter what the media say or repeating what the politicians have said, it doesn't matter what your friends have said, your opinions do not change reality. It isn't illegal to claim asylum here, under international law to which we are a signatory under the 1951 UNHCR Refugee Convention, it says anyone can claim asylum here no matter how they arrive.
Of course the government has the right to change or repeal those laws but until then you cannot claim it is illegal because it isn't.
Also if the government is so concerned about the small boat crossings why is it that in Boris's 'oven ready' brexit deal he didn't renew the returns agreement so we could send them back. The clowns in government are having to fix their own mess.

The Government never assessed the impact of the consequences for leaving the EU without a returns agreement to replace the Dublin III Regulation and was caught by surprise. The UK did not need to leave this agreement in leaving the EU. Non-EU members have returns agreements with the EU.

These clips continue to demonstrate how politicians are so far removed from the everyday person. How much more refreshing would it be to have a politician come up and answer questions honestly and in a straight forward manner.

The sub-text to "economic migrant" is "nasty foreigner who will steal your job." The reality is that people who are prepared to risk their lives to get to a country where they hope to find a job are a great deal more enterprising than the average gammon.

If I were asked to do a media interview outside my area of expertise, I would refer the media to the appropriate person. Otherwise, I would at least bone up onthe facts. Coming to this country and claim asylum is NOT illegal. It does NOT matter how many countries you have passed before. Getting rid or pausing human rights is NOT for asylum seekers its for you the British people (like the freedom of movements which is restricting your rights). This country would benefit from a higher immigration rate because there is a shortage of workers (1 Million). So there is a problem with immigration because its to low. There is NO problem with asylum which is very low compared to other countries. The applications are processed to slow and the government should have accepted the french offer to open processing centers in France which would prevent people from dangerous travels.
Nepotism is one of the Conservatives' core values.
