Festa della Bruna Matera

La festa della Bruna è una festa secolare che si festeggia ogni 2 luglio a Matera. È caratterizzata da diversi momenti. Si parte all’alba con la processione dei pastori, successivamente ,sfilano, per le vie della città, i cosiddetti cavalieri che scortano l’effigie della madonna dalla cattedrale sino al quartiere di piccianello. Nel pomeriggio il carro esce dalla sua fabbrica e ,in una sfilata sfarzosa sotto delle bellissime luminarie, arriva presso il Duomo dove compie i tre giri. Conclusi i tre giri ,la madonna viene fatta scendere dal carro, in quel momento il manufatto diviene della cittadinanza. Quindi dal Duomo il manufatto in cartapesta si reca presso la piazza principale della città dove verrà a saltato dalla folla.

The Festa della Bruna is a secular festival that is celebrated every 2nd July in Matera. It is characterized by several moments. It starts at dawn with the procession of shepherds, then the so-called knights parade through the streets of the city escorting the effigy of the Madonna from the cathedral to the Piccianello district. In the afternoon the wagon leaves its factory and, in a sumptuous parade under the beautiful lights, arrives at the Cathedral where it makes the three laps. At the end of the three laps, the Madonna is made to get off the cart, at that moment the artifact becomes of the citizenship. Then from the Duomo the papier-mâché artefact goes to the main square of the city where it will be jumped by the crowd.
