Ive listened to the Charles Russel, Edmund O'Brian, and the one Dick Powell version of YTJD. Dick Powell and Edmund O'Brian were excellent actors. I am unaware of Charles Russell's career. However Bob Bailey owned this role, lock, stock and barrel! No one else held a candle to his portrayal of Johnny Dollar. As a matter of fact I think it was the whole team of actor, producer, director, announcer, et al. I remember listening to this series as a kid. I think I'm enjoying them even more at 78.
Mac, I agree with you opinion of Bob Bailey, he is the best. But I always enjoyed Mandel Kramer as well. The stories were a bit shorter as CBS phased out their radio shows. Charles Russell did not have much of a career as an actor, he was more of a producer. He produced TV shows for about 15 years before he retired. John Lund had an acting career, but not like Powell or O'Brien did
A slightly inconclusive ending. Samson never finds out the value of his coin, and the company is still on the hook for fifteen k if anything else happens to it before they have a legal opportunity to cancel the misinformed policy. I'm glad Digger and Mary got a happy ending, but it didn't have to be quite so schmaltzily contrived.
I'm just thinking how I would go about getting that half dollar out of all them turkeys. Killing and cleaning all of them is a lot of work and a lot of turkeys to put up also keeping an eye out for the coin and make sure no one helping would pocket it. I came up with x raying the birds. Does that make sense???
