In fact I hadn't even turned on the app on my phone to fly Grace. But I flew her today since my RC 2 controller has gone to DJI to repair the update problem. Flew her over my old neighborhood from 47 years ago. Not only is the treehouse gone that I built for my kids, the whole tree is gone! But when I turned on the app on my iPhone, it had already been updated. I could tell by the different home screen and the large lettering. Somehow, when I updated the fly app in the RC 2, it updated in my phone too. How is that possible when the app wasn't even running on my phone? I guess the update must be on the server, as you have to go into your prifile/settings to check for updates. So the fly app version must be in your DJI profile, not just the controller, whether it's on your phone or the RC 2 controller. Anyway, it's good to know that if I leave either controller in sport mode, it's really in normal mode, even if it says sport. Another great test, Kev! Thanks!
Lol Gary that hi Jack comment was priceless. I made sure to keep it for the right opportunity hahaha. Regarding your phones fly app being updated, you may have your phone set to auto update. If you don’t want it to update the apps automatically, go to settings and scroll down to “App Store”. Click on that then scroll down towards the bottom and you’ll see “App Updates”. If the toggle to the right is green, it’s set to auto update so when an update comes available it’ll automatically update without you even knowing about it. If you don’t want it to do that, pull the toggle to the left and it’ll turn gray. That’s the off position. I have mine off so I can keep the 1.4.8 fly app version for Jack. Lol. Why do you land before changing modes. To bypass the normal mode safety feature while in flight, just switch to normal mode then back to sport, and it will switch to sport. My mini 4pro displays the correct mode on the screen, not sure why your mini two didn’t.
That’s a good question and I have an answer. Lol. Back when we got our first Mini 2, it didn’t matter if you were initially taking off or if you took off after you landed, the drone would revert to normal mode. Later, they removed that feature and you would take off in whatever mode your controller was in whether it was the initial take off after powering up or if you were taking off after landing. Now they’ve changed it again so that when you initially taken off after powering up, the drone takes off in normal mode regardless of what mode the controller toggle switch is on. I was just demonstrating that now, after landing you can launch in whatever mode your switch is in on the controller. I hope that makes sense and I know I could’ve been a bit more clear in my explanation. Lol Thanks for watching and commenting buddy. God bless!
do you think flying in your truck or near your truck with all the metal and electronics could have some effect on your GPS signals, IMU calibration ect. ? Just a thought.
That’s an awesome question, John. We’ve done a couple of videos in the past testing the signal strength comparing flying inside and outside the vehicle. Regarding the signal we’ve pretty much confirmed with the short distances we fly, there’s no interference inside the truck. BUT, you raise a good question regarding the IMU calibration. I never noticed any imu issues for the first couple years flying the Mini 2 but lately it’s been almost every other time I go fly, I gotta do an imu calibration. I think this could be something to test out in the future especially with the Mini 2. I do know the drone doesn’t receive the satellites as quickly sitting inside the truck but IMU is a new question.
Are you going to stick with the minis? i love mine but you might enjoy the power and flight improvements with the Air series (2S or the 3). Just asking. love your videos. Keep them coming.
That’s a great question, Joe. I’m definitely gonna stick with the Mini drones for the main part of the channel but I’m not opposed at all to the bigger drones. I’d love to try them out and have that experience under my belt for sure. Nobbygreen refers to his Air 3 and other bug drones as “beasts”. Lol. I’m sure I’d be amazed at the difference. Maybe one of these days I’ll take the plunge. That would be awesome!
Lol someone coined the term “drive by shouting”. That’s hilarious! I just wish I’d been recording a video that day. The audio would’ve been a lot better. Hahaha
The reason for your drone yawing somewhat after launch might very well be due to the fact that your magnetometer ('compass') is being confused by the magnetic fields around the bed of your truck or within your crew compartment. That being me assuming US cars and trucks are still being made from ferrous metals. 😅 Whenever I'm booting up one of my drones inside my SUV (Heavy German thing called a VW Touareg R50 - built like a tank) my 'compass' needs calibration. This goes for my four Mini 2's, Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced. I've not yet tired booting my Matrice 30T in the car yet but starting it from the roof is not a problem. Hard to land the thing through the sunroof though! 🤪
Hahahab oh I’d love to see the landing through the sun roof. I took off from the passenger seat once and launched through the passenger side window. I probably should’ve played the lottery that day. I’ve never been so lucky. Lol. I’m not sure if the truck has anything to do with the weird yaw we experienced or not. I’m going to do an imu calibration with the 4 next time I’m out and about and see if it fixes the issue. I’ve not done an imu calibration with the Mini 4 since I got it last year so maybe it’s time. Lol. It seems like I have to do an imu calibration on the Mini 2 drones every flight or every other flight nowadays. I’d like to see that VW Touareg R50. Sounds like a beast. I looked up the specs on it and holy crap! The torque would put you in the back seat! Lol
@@WeretheRoberts I'd bet you a dollar that your magnetometer is confused by magnetic field interference but try calibrating both IMU and magnetometer if a normal 'compass calibration' doesn't help. But first of all, try taking off a bit away from your truck and other ferrous metals and / or sources of electromagnetic interference like transformers etcetera. Yes, the R50 is a true 'sleeper' and a fun car to drive (not to fuel up at scandinavian prices though). Mine has stage 2 tuning cranking it up to 420HP and about 1000Nm torque. A 2750 kg SUV accelerating like a BMW M3. 😅
@@michaelfuchs1467lol that car would get me in some trouble I bet. Hahaha. I tried launching away from the truck the other day and the slow rotation wasn’t there but when I moved forward, the mini 4 pro started turning slightly like the Mini 2 drones do. I ended up doing an imu calibration and it’s fixed now. I’ve not done the IMu calibration since I bought it so I’m sure it was in need of one. Lol. Thanks for the tip, brother. It’s guys like you who make this hobby easier for guys like me. Hahahaha.
Awesome question! I can honestly say there’s some pros and cons to using the RC2 controller. I love how fast it is to set up and get going and I like how bright the screen is compared to our iPhones. One negative is I always hit one of the buttons on the back of the controller and I know eventually I’m gonna do it and screw up something in the process. Lol. As far as controls, they seem to be exactly the same and they feel the same in my hand. I do wish we could use the RC2 with the Mini 2 but that’s mainly because of the ease of set up.
Thank you for the response. I’ve got the mini 2 myself & use an iPad mini for the screen. I find it much better than the smaller iPhone. Is it possible to get A slightly larger capacity battery for the mini 2?
@@OceanBreeze2022.man I tried and tried to get a bigger screen set up for the Mini 2 and failed on every attempt. I went android and also iPad but me being a non tech type, I bought the wrong ones. Lol. Regarding the battery, there may be some after market batteries that would last longer but k don’t think anyone makes a “plus type” battery for the 2. At least not that I’ve been able to find anyway.
Lol yea yea. Ever since I put that cover thing on the controller I forget to extend the antennas. Fortunately it doesn’t seem to matter much at such a short distance. I’m sure if I go out further than that though I’d remember pretty quick to put them out. Lol.
Hi Kevin, I’ve watched a lot of your video’s and you actually inspired me to get a DJI Mini 2, and it’s been great. I was just wondering do you have the DJI Fly App Updated because it looks different than mine. Just wondering, also I liked and subscribed.
Oh wow that’s awesome!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, buddy. Very cool stuff. I have to say the Mini 2 is still the best drone out there. Especially for someone starting out. I think Kristi and I got started at the perfect time and the Mini 2 sort of fell in our lap because it was new when we started looking into drones. The Mini 4 is amazing, but there’s something about the simplicity of the mini 2, eh? Anyway, enough of that. Hahahaha. I was using 2 different fly app updates for this demo. The Mini 4 pro and the first Mini 2 flight were with the 1.12.8 fly app and the last flight was with the Mini 2 and the 1.4.8 fly app version. They do look different from each other slightly but I think the biggest difference is the 1.12.8 offers a “large text” option for us old people. Lol. Very thoughtful of DJI to include us in their plans. Haha Thanks again for watching and commenting. It means the world to us. Hope this answered your question. I kinda got to rambling again. Lol. God bless!!! Kevin
Interesting test Kevin. I personally think its the right way to be. I'll Check out the mini 3 pro and let you know. Not sure why DJI changed it in the first place? Keep safe man
Lol I’m beginning to wonder if DJI may watch your and our videos because they listened to someone. Lol. I wasn’t a fan of this regarding the Mini 2 but now that I have the 4 and seem to rely a little bit on the sensors it seems pretty important. Keep me updated on the 3 for sure. Have fun testing it man!
Hi Kevin, Good to see you "out with the family". Even if one certain Special Member was zooming past tooting (high Kristi ~ ~ ). Kevin I didn't notice if you had checked the transmission giraffe thingy. ? {the graph}. Yeah I know; I'm a grandma (grammar) delinquent. Am wondering if the signal had some interference problem then?. Maybe one of the ducks?. I really should "get out there" with my poor olde Air 2 and see what that does, eh. Oh, and did you redo the IMU? on all three?, I guess next time (fright/flight) it might have stopped that strange slow rotation, as well as the wandwering. The lack of wind and their seemingly skittish? behavior certainly seems strang. That water looks deep enough for a rushing sub too. Hmmm. God Bless, and thankyou for the verses. 🙃🤠 Oops sorry this "e" fell off.
Lol Kristi driving by made this video funny. That was the only funny part so I had to put it in there twice. Lol. I didn’t check the transmission thingie before these flights and I didn’t do the imu on any of them either. I’m pretty sure the imu is the problem. Next time I’m out, all 3 will be given some special imu attention and maybe even a gimbal calibration. I’m not sure why the mini 2 drones keep getting out of whack. Seems like every time I fly I need to do an imu calibration on them. The mini 4 has never had an imu calibration so I believe that’ll fix him up. I’ll definitely let you know what happens. Did you ever find that “e”?
Hi Kevin, That "e" had fallen off the end of "The lack of wind and their seemingly skittish? behavior certainly seems strang." So being a ood; er, oops; good bloke, I'd tacked it on in this converse. BTW that was a really good video, as it brought up something (together with you?) we'd not seen or seen much of before. I refer to the slow rotation, and slight? skittishness. My crazy thinking~thingy is thunking "I wonder if it would have slowly rotated on the horizontal axial axis "grandma's gonna hate me!!) when in FPV? mode??. Good question, brother. I don’t think they changed anything on the app other than the “large text” option. It definitely makes the words and numbers a lot easier to see for sure. With that 3rd flight, we were using Jack with the 1.4.8 fly app version and it looks a little different than the current fly app for sure. That may be what you were seeing as different, eh?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I’m pretty sure the Mini 2 se would have the same result. We don’t have the 2se so I can’t say for certain though. Lol
Awesome info, brother. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I was demonstrating a specific feature so I had to land in order to show it. Lol. It used to be that no matter what position your toggle switch was in, any time you launched you were automatically in normal mode. They took that away a while back but I guess recently they brought it back for just the initial launch of the drone after power up. Now, after your initial launch and landing, you can move the switch and take off in whatever mode you want to be in. I probably could’ve been a bit more clear on why I was landing before moving the toggle switch, eh? Sometimes the words don’t come out. Hahahaha.
Hey Kevin, Once again great video and don’t pay attention to that Lady doing the drive-by honking… 😊
She could get you in trouble! 😂😂
Thanks
Jerry
Lol someone coined the term “drive by shouting”. That’s hilarious! I just wish I’d been recording a video that day. The audio would’ve been a lot better. Hahaha
The reason for your drone yawing somewhat after launch might very well be due to the fact that your magnetometer ('compass') is being confused by the magnetic fields around the bed of your truck or within your crew compartment. That being me assuming US cars and trucks are still being made from ferrous metals. 😅
Whenever I'm booting up one of my drones inside my SUV (Heavy German thing called a VW Touareg R50 - built like a tank) my 'compass' needs calibration.
Hahahaha.
Notification squad 💙
Keep up with the great videos!
Love the car honking it's horn driving by 😂
Lol she’s definitely a crazy lady. I just wish I’d been making a video that day cause the audio would’ve been a lot better. Lol
Do you find much difference in the mini 4 controller over the mini 2 controller using your phone.
Hey Kevin, fantastic testing brother, lots of info there! Damn you Imu calibration haha 😂 you’ve never gonna escape that lol! Great job mate!
Hahaha. I know man. That imu is gonna be the death of me. Lol
Haha it sure is brother ! I still get it sometimes too , hopefully an update will fix it one day! 👍
Thank you for showing a great video.
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. It means a lot to us, buddy. God bless!
It's important to extend the antennas on the RC-2.
Kevin
Haha thanks so much now I understand.@@WeretheRoberts
Interesting test Kevin. I personally think its the right way to be. I'll Check out the mini 3 pro and let you know. Not sure why DJI changed it in the first place? Keep safe man
Lol I’m beginning to wonder if DJI may watch your and our videos because they listened to someone. Lol. I wasn’t a fan of this regarding the Mini 2 but now that I have the 4 and seem to rely a little bit on the sensors it seems pretty important. Keep me updated on the 3 for sure. Have fun testing it man!
@@WeretheRoberts maybe they do brother 😁 I’ll keep you posted when it stops raining lol
IMU calibrations are very important.
Lol they’re an every day necessity here Lol
Hi Kevin,
Good to see you "out with the family".
Hmmm.
God Bless,
and thankyou for the verses.
🙃🤠
Oops sorry this "e" fell off.
Hi Kevin,
That "e" had fallen off the end of
"The lack of wind and their seemingly skittish? behavior certainly seems strang."
So being a ood; er, oops; good bloke, I'd tacked it on in this converse.
BTW that was a really good video, as it brought up something (together with you?) we'd not seen or seen much of before. I refer to the slow rotation, and slight? skittishness.
My crazy thinking~thingy is thunking "I wonder if it would have slowly rotated on the horizontal axial axis "grandma's gonna hate me!!) when in FPV? mode??. I think I only was once in that mode; by mistook.
PTL 🤠🙏
God Bless

@@nbrettonerlol makes total sense in my mind, brother. Regarding the slow turn, I did an imu calibration with Dwight and it didn’t repeat the shenanigans. May have just been a fluke. Lol
shenanigans are such eronious* mysterious wonderments.

9:21 in, what if the pilot's name is actually "Jack?"
Hahahaha. That’s a good question. I don’t know any pilots to ask. Maybe you could give it a try and relay how it goes. Lol
@@WeretheRoberts I don’t know any pilots named Jack, but I’m aware of a really great one named Kevin! 💜
@@TC_Connerhahahaha. Ain’t no way he’s a Roberts!
Great job as always Kevin! I know you are probably tired of hearing that but in my opinion it’s true. Great news on my end is i got my tax return and ordered an Air 3. I’m so excited. And one last thing is all my kin in Alabama and Mississippi would kick those people out of the state if they didn’t wave as they passed.
Lol we never get tired of hearing when someone enjoys the videos. Very much appreciated and humbling. Huge congrats on the air 3!!! That’s an awesome drone and maybe one day I’ll be able to graduate to the big big toys. Haha. Thanks so much for watching, brother. Keep us in the loop with your Air 3 progress. Cool stuff! I’m waving at the camera right now. Lol
hi buddy i have a ? did DJI change the app looks different love watching you
Good question, brother.
TESTING TESTING 2SE 4MINI PRO SPORTY
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I’m pretty sure the Mini 2 se would have the same result. We don’t have the 2se so I can’t say for certain though. Lol
You don’t have to be landed to change modes
Awesome info, brother. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I was demonstrating a specific feature so I had to land in order to show it. Lol. It used to be that no matter what position your toggle switch was in, any time you launched you were automatically in normal mode. They took that away a while back but I guess recently they brought it back for just the initial launch of the drone after power up. Now, after your initial launch and landing, you can move the switch and take off in whatever mode you want to be in. I probably could’ve been a bit more clear on why I was landing before moving the toggle switch, eh? Sometimes the words don’t come out. Hahahaha. Thanks again for watching and I hope this made sense, brother. God bless!!!
its stupid to give names to drones....
lol. Ok. Thanks for watching. God bless.
