@njishottlikeatamale She had to change the way she usually sings for this. To make it a little more believable. Reba did such a great job...........definitely the best Annie. You should check out her music though. And her tv series (in syndication).
@dugite100 Well said! I have seen both Bernadette and Reba perform, and they are both very different in style. They are tremendously talented and bring great presence and vitality to any role. I enjoyed them both immensely. According to Wikipedia, singers in the early days on stage did not have microphones. This makes sense why Merman was such a hit in her day. She could really belt out a tune.
@njishottlikeatamale Reba also played Nellie Forbush in South Pacific in Concert at Carnegie Hall, it is available on DVD. The cast was amazing, all broadway veterans plus Alec Baldwin as Billis. The music was done by a full orchestra and although there was minimal dialogue and no staging it was the best version I have ever seen. To me entertainment is all about emotion and this production was awesome in that department.
@SDoesNotKnow It all comes down to personal taste like any form of art. Bernadette did a wonderful job and I love her as an actress, I myself am drawn to Rebas voice so I enjoyed her version more than Bernadettes. It would be a sad world if we all liked the same thing.
I think Reba was probably the best Annie to hit Broadway, but I prefer Bernadette's Moonshine Lullaby the best. I think Bernadette's voice is perfect for this song. That said, both these women were better than Ethel Merman's version. Her voice wasn't meant for a lullaby. I'm glad Betty Hutton didn't try with her voice.
Really enjoyed hearing this 👌
SHE WAS AUTENTICALLY SUPERB!!! Saw this!
Love this song. I almost sang it in choir for our of our concerts.
I had Judys last Carnegie Hall concert on vinyl, wore it out. Absolutely incredible. This song wouldn't really play to her strengths I don't think.
Reba is the only actress/singer who got the accent right. She was amazing.

Love Reba singing this!simply beautiful! i wish she would release a broadway cd and have this song on!
thanks for poasting :)
I agree. I wish she'd make an album of Broadway songs. Or at the very least, I'd love an album of her singing the songs from this show.
