I know very little about the history of these people but these videos are an invaluable and often utterly absorbing learning experience - thank you for doing them
Excellent attention to detail with this presentation. Thank you for your service Mr. Wolcoff. Its a shame you all werent able to get the recognition you deserve many year's ago, but happy to see that time be now at least.
I’m glad you’re giving these guys so much opportunity to talk. When they’re gone…their experiences should be preserved. Doing anything less is to disrespect every person who has ever put themselves in harm’s way for what they believe in. So many of these old boys look like the typical grandpa. Harmless. You would never guess that they were the epitome of a warrior class in their youth. Your channel may be small and your views few, but there is no denying that the content you are providing and its historical significance…gonna make a warm spot for you in the hearts of these men and their families. Everything you have posted is worth hearing. Thanks kid, you do your father proud.
Ww2 is said to be greatest generation . These American hero’s are the greatest patriots and as far as a generation all the combat veterans of this countries history are our greatest asset. For without them we wouldn’t be the most generous, wealthy, giving, free, and bountiful society that has ever existed. Great guest and great podcasts. These stories should be mandatory in our government controlled education system.😊
Wow part 2 did not disappoint! Feel like I was taking a SOG class at really cool University. Lots of great descriptive information. I agree with the Col. about the jungle warfare preparedness in a fight with China or whomever. I hope some one at our puzzle palace (Pentagon) reads the book or listens to this. Thanks Bud, keep 'em. Coming.
Love the deep dive on terrain with the contour maps, for layman like myself imagining what the struggle of humping thru the jungle over mountains, being chased and herded uo against a terrain feature. Frightening to think of. .a great approach could be to match up the grids w Google ea4th and create a fly by tour. I have a few I made w grids I pulled from tilts and plasters books of kia/Mia coords.
Another good interview. Good info on sgt Gross things they needed to do on the spot decision hoping it was a good call. Sounds like MACV SOG lost the battle in the puzzle palace we call saigon. Sadly operators are still losing many battles on the current puzzle palace.
IMHO the mission of SOG was information that not able to be attained by any other mean at the risk of life & limb of the operators. Obviously the info was not appreciate. There is one SOG story were the member took pictures of tank track, was flown to Saigon because the people there did not believe him. Unbelieveable story, the WAR MANAGERS were so deficient.
In counter insurgency warfare , unless you pull something off like the "Anbar Awakening" , it's gonna be difficult to win if the enemy is allowed to have his supplies and base camps in an adjacent country.
Anyway, I personally used the AN/ PVS-2 Starlight Scope on several Missions/ Recon Patrols/ LRRP and never found it to be too big or too heavy. Had excellent Night Vision as well...
@@davidclouse5894no he tried them he said a few times and across the fence in triple canopy it wouldn’t have helped plus he said it would ruin your natural night vision if the NVA attacked the RON at night , considering SOG teams bedded down at night

Thank you for this. Rich Gross was my grandmother's little brother.
You're very welcome! It’s been an honor to learn about Mr. Gross

Did your SOG/ RT Team ever use the Fish-Hook Ambush Manuever in VN Sir?
Yes he did he used a variety, you can see in his book. Also we have him as our 1st guest 3-4 months ago
Did your SOG/ RT Team ever use the Small Starlight Scope on the CAR-15 in VN Sir? (Like used by the 173rd Airborne Brigade VN).
They used them at the base but they were far to big and didn’t work well enough to use across the fence
Well, I was meant the Smaller Starlight Scope/ Night Vision// (Not the Standard Version...)
Anyway, I personally used the AN/ PVS-2 Starlight Scope on several Missions/ Recon Patrols/ LRRP and never found it to be too big or too heavy. Had excellent Night Vision as well...

Did your SOG/ RT Team ever use the Red-Dot System on the CAR-15 in VN Sir?
He did not, some guys did experiment with scopes but Ed did not mess with any on any of his weapons
Ok Cool thanks
