Awesome duo performance that really showcases the legendary rapport that Pat Metheny and Antonio sanchez have built up after many years of playing together, in my opinion they are the greatest guitar drum combination since Allan Holdsworth & Chad Wackerman in terms of tight musicianship 8:02 - 11:24 the influence of Ornette Coleman is strong here and his spirit lives on, he would be very proud.
Saw these guys with Linda May Han Oh on bass and a young guy on keys (first name Gwilliam) at Royce Hall at UCLA earlier in September 2018. Pat and Antonio did this tune...it was even more awesome live!
Ummm ... wow! WIth Christian McBride it was for me classic and timeless check out The Red One from the Day Trip CD. Some of the nuanced interplay is sublime. This is just crazy how Masseurs Metheny and Sanchez are able to completely cover what a bassist or a bassist and a pianist or a bassist, pianist and sax player and .... (you get the idea) might play. Wow, just wow.
9' 32", Pat runs forwards to hit the pedal...we all know things are about to get crazy. To those who have never seen Pat live, this performance might be leaving you a bit...meh!!! The live experience if truly mind blowing - literally.
I love Sanchez's drum-matic solos. They're technical and musical gems, each one.
what an amazing performance!
