I have to say, I found your channel while bored and watched one. It has become my nightly routine to watch or listen to your videos. It's a nice way to wind down after a day. Keep it up and never stop.
I just wanted to write how thrilled I was when you chose your GrandDad"s Ole Axe Handle. It's perfect for this Lil Vintage Axe head. Every time you use it you can think of both the giver of the axe head and your GrandDad. What a wonderful piece to pass to Jack, a blessed boy.
I purchased from a friend two tool chests filled with antique tools that his great grandmother had used to teach shop class in the early 1900's... it's filled with great treasure that I've slowly been restoring to put into use in my shop (planes, hammers, draw knives, spoke shaves, axes) but I haven't gotten around to the axes/hatchets yet. This video has lit a fire so to speak... on the to-do list they go!
Cody, I know many people like seeing a 20 sec time lapse DIY video, but I truly enjoy the process in real time. I don't come to the channel to learn how to do something quickly so I can go get it done. I come here because it is like stopping by a friends house who's company I enjoy for a few minutes. God bless your beautiful family.
btw I think it's easier to just fit the axe to the handle with sandpaper and then chisel out the v grooves in the middle, the carving knife is not necessary as there is too little material to remove
I never thought as a 21 year old I would be interested in axes.. or homesteading in general. But here we are. Keep up the hard work Cody. I'm sure the ending video scenes of Fuji don't do a justice at displaying God's awesome work of art.
Nothing more relaxing than being in the shop,no radios there,no phones ,no conversation, except with your self.its a zen thing i think , a space all mine. Last year i had 2 projects, an armoure linen closet made with curley red oak ive had for 15 years, and my 20th guitar ,an archtop jazz guitar ,made from spruce and maple. Very satisfing, loved the vid and music.
Oh man, such an amazing video! Very peaceful and relaxing, but at the same time it was interesting. I personally love these types of videos. There's no words needed for these videos. Let the skill, the labor, and the wood or whatever item, talk for themselves. I am not sure if there are copyright restrictions against this, but I really think you should put the songs you use in the description box. Because I know I would listen to all those songs you had this video and previous videos. But all in all, keep up the amazing work and in no time you'll be at 1,000,000 subscribers, with millions of views. Thank you so much for videos! You show us all what life is truly about! We all learn a lot from you. And again thank you and keep at the great work!
Cody, I may be in the minority but I enjoy videos like this immensely! There is something so calming and cathartic to just watch wood being shaped and I know from my personal situation that I enjoy seeing this as I don't have the opportunity to do these tasks. Thank you for sharing your craft.
I have property from which I harvest my own hickory/ash materials. Like you, one of my favorite shop things to do is replace old handles in axes, hammers, wheel barrows, etc. I harvest with chainsaw and then use all hand tools (wedges, axes, a fro, hand plane, chisels, scrapers, etc.) to complete the other sizing of my handles. I usually wait 2 years for wood to dry and then take the rough out piece inside for one winter season, in a controlled environment, and get the moisture in the 10-12% range for use. Being retired, I could watch you carve/chisel/slice/shave these wood handles for hours on end! keep up the good work, watching, for me anyway, is very relaxing! Thanks for the nice video! ....13
I always appreciate these videos where there's the story with no dialog. It's a great change of pace. I've been watching for a couple of years now and am really impressed with how your video-making style and quality have changed. Keep up the great work.
Often times I enjoy your monolog at the tail as much as the balance of the video. Congratulations for being you and providing a well balanced family with superior support and love. I'm in awe, but not surprised to see 400,000 subs at all... Keep doing the diligence, we love this family.
I love that you are using the old axe handle to make this. You are honoring the great man that was your grandfather by taking something that would otherwise be firewood and turning it into something beautiful and useful. This kind of mentality is rare these days when everyone is caught up with the consumerist lifestyle. It is a beautiful piece and an inspiration to preserve the past in one way or another.
Hey Cody, Thank you so much for just sharing the care and craftsmanship you put into a project like this. It is rare, wonderful and inspiring. I look forward to seeing the end of this axe project when ever we get there. Not rushing, always makes for a better end product.
You should do a budget build axe. You have to buy all the parts (except tools). Make it as cheap as you can, it can be really ugly! Lol. Love your videos! Thanks!
I guess you want like an "apocalyptic" axe build, where he has to make it from scraps? In all reality though, you can pick up a head from a flea market or garage sale for way cheaper than you think. The wood isn't that expensive, either.
+Noah yeah something like that but i was thinking of felling a tree and making the handle yourself but a apocalyptic build with a metal handle (not like the fiskars) but hollow.
I used to have a really nice axe head that broke off from its old weathered handle. A week later after giving it away I find your videos restoring axes and handles. Kind of wish I hadn't parted with it now.
These types of videos with minimal talking and just calm music and a man working with nature's materials are a nice break. I love how you space them out in your uploads so it's that they're like a nice little treat every once in a while. Love your videos and your family man! Keep on doin' you!
I really enjoyed the less is more style video. One of my favorite videos you have put out yet. I totally can relate to the concept of why you shot the video the way you did. It was a real joy to watch. Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart with the rest of us.
If there is a sweeter sound than hard steel shaping a piece of hickory, slowly and carefully, finding that perfect shape inside that piece of wood, I've not heard that sound. That video was satisfying on many levels, but the sound of wood being shaped is wonderful to watch but incredible to feel. Thanks for doing such a great job of relaying that feeling to such a great level on this video.
They need a love button. You say that our comments keep you going. Well in deepest honesty I must say your videos keep me going. It's been a very hard year. Lots of big changes and little time for my shop and hobbies and your videos help me stay grounded. Thank you for the blessings you bring to our lives.
For whatever this is worth, I never actually log in to youtube and comment, but my jaw dropped when Sturgill Simpson came on!!!! I was already a fan of yours, but now even more. People just don't listen to good music anymore. Thank you for playing him.
Wranglerstar, I am a suburban teen, but watch ALL of your videos! I just inherited a splitting maul from my grandfather, and my family just got a fire pit, so I have the need to split wood now. I don't have any experience or knowledge of how to do it, but watching your videos has inspired me to take up the challenge of restoring this splitting maul, and I've always love to whittle, so I might even try to make my own handle for it! I love all your videos, and everything you do! Keep up the AWESOME work! Thank you.
I have used a phantom 4 and it is much closer to a tool then a toy. It is a lot of fun to fly though! Thanks for another great episode, I loved this one.
The Marbles No. 5 is looking great so far. I have seen some really great drone cinematography, particularly when it comes to getting a sense of the landscape. A good look at the forest from above used to be reserved for filmmakers who could afford a helicopter, or the birds. Drones are allowing the rest of us to film and see those views, and it's pretty great. I'm guessing you could do some great stuff with one.
+Wranglerstar I am a hobbyist and I work part time at my local shop. The DJI Phantom 4 is a great unit. It does have drawbacks, for instance, few parts available, and any warranty work requires it to be sent back to manufacturer...in China. There are other options for hobby grade or better drone category, one is the Traxxas Aton, Blade Chroma, Yuneeq Q500 and Yuneec Typhoon H series. Traxxas is based in Texas and Blade and Yuneeq are owned and sold by Horizon Hobby. a high quality drone is a major purchase, consider all of them and look them over.
This video format with the music and just hearing the woodworking are some of my favorites that you do! Keep em coming! And I really love the ending with the mountain in the background. I'm from Washington State, but am in Virginia. I love being able to see home!
So LP from Gransfors Bruks made a little hatchet a couple years ago. Thinking similar to yours in size. Beautiful little custom axe head and with your grandfather's old handle--old growth wood, spirit and soul.
I fully appreciate these kinds of videos that highlight craftsmanship and skill. It really allows the audience to simply become a wallflower in an admirable craftsman's shop. Your work is of spectacular honesty and care, your efforts and intelligence are of a highest standard. Thank you, and your family beside you.
I want to start by telling you what a difference your RUclips videos, as well as your book have made. I'm still a young guy and you have inspired me to "take control" of my life and to head in the direction that I want to head in regardless of my peers opinions, not my family as they as very supportive. I hope that you continue to produce such high quality content for this channel because I look forward to watching your videos every day.
Awesome video. I found it peaceful. Crafting things by hand is therapeutic and you can see the love put into it. I'm pretty new here but these videos are great.
I don't think you've gotten away from homesteading in your videos. When I think of homesteading, building the house, digging the garden, etc. were important, but they were also things that had to be done first and fairly quickly. Once they were done, the real business of a homesteading family was that of living together day to day, doing the daily chores, meeting and getting to know the neighbors, and, when possible, stopping for a moment to have a little fun. You're lucky in having over 300,000 neighbors to visit, and a really beautiful place to live.
I really enjoyed this silent video. It makes a nice change to this series, and as well as that i sometimes prefer silence to you, or actually any video maker just talking for the sake of talking with no aim. Just rambling away.
The scenery at your homestead is something private pilots like myself in the midwest dream of. I love my Phantom 4 but it's not like flying out there. It will add a lot to the channel. You won't regret that purchase for a minute!
Typically at the end of a long night ,around 2am I do a final search through my email and YT . Only to be still sitting at the screen at 3 am watching Cody going through his day when my wife wakes up and scolds me for sitting up so late.Your a bad habit Cody! lol!!! but entertaining.
It's all good Cody and Mrs W ,makes the day go faster ,watching you go through all the different activities and repairs of stuff, we older folk wish we had done in our younger years. As is the case,at the time ,different priorities often direct the courses you take in life. So, in a way ,it's great to watch someone else live those moments, experience the excitement and we thank you for allowing us to share those moments.
That's a great view of the mountain. But I hate cold weather. I don't know how people handle cold weather. Good video. I think I am falling in love with your little ax. Thanks for sharing.
Wranglerstar, haven't watched cable TV since I found your channel months ago. You have a lot of responsibility keeping all of us away from the garbage passing these days for entertainment by providing wholesome yet engaging viewing content. I suspect that you are up for the challenge.
Hey Cody the first video I watched of yours was a few years back when you made the bench top brake drum forge, and I've been subscribed and watching ever since. I thumbs up every video I watch and enjoy all the content!
Another awesome video. The music was a great match for the feel of the video. Loved the raw beauty of a man completely at peace wood working with hand tools. Keep up the great videos.
I picked up a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced about 1 month ago. If you're trying to balance the investment, the Phantom 3 is a great bang for the buck. You could go with the Phantom 3 Professional and get 4K video. The Phatom 4 and Phantom 3 (Adv & Prof) use the same controller so you'd get the same range. Good luck with making the selection and I look forward to seeing the great aerial footage.
You sure are methodical and patient with projects like this. That is a good thing considering how long an axe handle usually lasts. I think it is worth spending extra time to do the job right.
I got started watching your channel with the remodel. This is the first time I've watched you make an axe handle. I'd been wondering how you going to mark the axe-head end of the handle for shaping. When you brought out the spray paint, I drew in a sharp breath, "Aha! Of course! How clever!" The perfect end-twist to the suspense.
You are such a craftsman Cody--with axe handles, and equally with your video presentations. Congrats on your 400k and loads of views--couldn't happen to a greater guy.
Well I enjoy it when you show this scene of Mt Fuji for a while, either in time lapse, or in this mode here. Sometimes there is so little motion in the view. I have to look at the wind gauge to see if there is motion, or is it a still photo. Anyway, I appreciate the way you sometimes show the mountain this way, with a last voiceover thought for the day.
Cody I've been watching you for a few months now but I've really enjoyed watching you do this and so many little or big projects and it's fun to see what content you give us and I think we all love watching your videos but I really want to do this as a job or hobby but the thing is I can't the reason is that I live in a city area in Wales and I'm only 13 years of age I've taken real passion to doing the sort of stuff out school but I want to be free to do this thing as a job, and well you make me fell as if I can when im older to do this, so to you I say thank you and that you are very caring father and husband.
Hey nice handle Cody, just one tip if your going to stop the cut before the end of the board slowly roll the spoke shave back whilst still cutting, this will lift the cutter out of the wood leaving a nicer surface and making complete shavings.
loved your video I don't comment much but I agree with your end card you told a wonderful story and it was very relaxing and calm. in my opinion you don't always have to be the one telling a story sometimes what your working on tells the story for us we just have to listen. and I think your granddad is watching with a big smile on his face in what you are doing with his old handle getting it back out to live another lifetime. love all the videos you do best wishes to you and your family.
wonderful work ... nice shooting ... good production ... and a test full ear in background music .... thank you for everything .... for all the calm moments you give to us
love these videos I'm just working on my great grandpa's old oxhead felling axe its almost done just hung the head then tung oil and paint then a final polish and sharpen... keep up the good work!
Cody, hubby and I were watching this when he said," I wonder if he will give this one to Jack as an heirloom, wait, what was I thinking!"LOL! We went for a walk up the side of the Cascade Foothill overlooking the lake behind our place this evening, and I wanted you to know you came up in conversation several times. At a wetland area I mentioned we need you to build us a bridge. On the walk home we both marveled that we live in one of the most beautiful places in God's earth. He said," Our mountain doesn't have snow on it all year like WranglerFamilies, but we have waterfalls on ours."
What a beautiful little axe, wonderful series, I'd love to work on one myself, if I ever come across one, I will buy it whatever the price. Keep it up.
The most enjoyable video I have watched in a long time. Not taking away from your other videos, I love those too!! But thanks man, can't wait for more!!!!!
love me some sturgill simpson. yall dona great job. homesteading is becoming more and more mainstream and i think you all present it well. Much love and appreciation from South FL :)
Was really looking forward to this one! I love listening to you talk, but I feel like this is what it would be like to have the conversation just die down, and settle into work. I have learned so much from you on this channel, I find myself running into a problem, or wondering what tool to use, and thinking "Cody Wranglerstar has a video on this somewhere I bet..." Thank you for being a role model for me, and I'm sure for other people who come here, too.
mr. W I have to say you do a very nice job of doing your videos the music is a complete match for your state of mind and I say that from personal experience I'm no expert at woodcrafting and metal crafting I'm not here to do an advertisement but I work with foam board and I'm cutting out my implants and rolling the edges and wiring Electronics this music fits my mood I intend to sit there and relax when I'm working on my stuff is a hundred percent soothing
congratulations! 400,000 subs is awesome! 400,000 views in 24 hours, that's huge! it's been pretty cool to watch the wranglerstar brand, if you will, grow to what it is today. Thanks for all of the great content! it means so much, to so many of us! can't wait to see what the future holds
Tip for matching the shape of the eye... Take some plaster of paris, or anything you might have that will set hard inside of there and fill the eye. Rub it down with some wax or something for easy removal, but i've done this before and it works great. Pull out your mold and then you can cut cross sections with a bandsaw to find the exact dimensions of the eye at different depths if need be. Lookin good man!
I have to say, I found your channel while bored and watched one. It has become my nightly routine to watch or listen to your videos. It's a nice way to wind down after a day. Keep it up and never stop.
Thank you Joshua.
yup
same
Wranglerstar you are the axe whisper love watching your videos tiny marbles no.5 axe is awesome
Thank you Dorothy.
We love it. Thank you for your kind words.
I find your videos to be very humbling and relaxing.
Nothing more relaxing than being in the shop,no radios there,no phones ,no conversation, except with your self.its a zen thing i think , a space all mine. Thank you Derrington.
+Wranglerstar Do you think you would be able to send me the me the songs you had in the video?
Tradition to not list music. you can always find them in the comments :) Saw them there already! Cheers
+Derrington Williams ..... I know that the one main song is called "water in the well" by Sturgill Simpson
+Charles Eden Thank you so much!
You've probably heard this a million times before but that view is absolutely phenomenal. I'd give anything to live in a home with a view like that.

I fell asleep watching this as the fine woodworking and soothing music put me to it. Great video
Me too. I restarted it tonight to see what I had been dreaming about.
I enjoy the silent videos. They are relaxing to watch. God bless!

That is indeed a beatiful thing to do, Cody should mark the handle with red, such to be a reminder of its previous history
+Leone I was thinking that too
Man, I could watch you restoring axes all day, I just love it, so calm and beautiful.
Hey Cody, Thank you so much for just sharing the care and craftsmanship you put into a project like this. It is rare, wonderful and inspiring. I look forward to seeing the end of this axe project when ever we get there. Not rushing, always makes for a better end product.
I love these videos of just you silently working, seriously calms me down. You're the reason I will be able to fall asleep tonight. Thank you

those aren't really expensive to make. only thing that can be expensive is the axe head

This video was a meditation. Beyond words. Bravo.
I like this type of video, thank you mister Cody.

Awesome video. I found it peaceful. Crafting things by hand is therapeutic and you can see the love put into it. I'm pretty new here but these videos are great.
I love, love, love this video. The music, the tranquility, the relaxed mood. I get very relaxed of these viceo's.....
I watch your videos every night! I've been hooked on your content since I watched one of your first axe handle videos! Keep up the great work!
Congratulations on the 400K views. Says a lot about the appeal of the story and your ability to tell it. My favorite channel.
A homesteading video filmed by a flying camera that follows you under its own control. What a concept. Cant wait to see it!
I always like the music you use. Soothing and goes great with whatever you are doing at the time. Great job.
i really appreciate your videos. they very nice to watch and listen to.
I really like this format it is enjoyable to watch. Especially for something as simple as a handle, just letting your hands do the talking.

Actually almost 400'000
the boss chef I was rounding down instead of up, but you're right.
One of your best videos I've seen, love the calmness and the music was perfect.
I have one. Ruff getting a handle. Best thing I have found for fire starting and parting out deer and hogs. Just a great tool.
The production quality of this video is quiet stunning. One of your best! You have come a long way my friend and I can't wait to see how far you go!
Keep up the great work Wranglerstar...my 7yr old son and I love watching your videos!!!
I really enjoyed this silent video.

The scenery at your homestead is something private pilots like myself in the midwest dream of. I love my Phantom 4 but it's not like flying out there. It will add a lot to the channel. You won't regret that purchase for a minute!
Best part of my day watching that video. Great music, interesting subject matter, and well shot.
Typically at the end of a long night ,around 2am I do a final search through my email and YT . Only to be still sitting at the screen at 3 am watching Cody going through his day when my wife wakes up and scolds me for sitting up so late.Your a bad habit Cody! lol!!! but entertaining.
oops. sorry.
It's all good Cody and Mrs W ,makes the day go faster ,watching you go through all the different activities and repairs of stuff, we older folk wish we had done in our younger years. As is the case,at the time ,different priorities often direct the courses you take in life. So, in a way ,it's great to watch someone else live those moments, experience the excitement and we thank you for allowing us to share those moments.
awsome video Cody. love the music and just watching you work. sometimes silence is louder than words. thank you for brightening up my day again.
Videos like this are really beautiful and relaxing. Watching them makes me forget about my worries, thank you
That's a great view of the mountain. But I hate cold weather. I don't know how people handle cold weather. Good video. I think I am falling in love with your little ax. Thanks for sharing.
great seeing you back in the shop and creating something unique. enjoyed watching the handle take shape!
Holy cow this video is so amazing. So relaxing, calming, and amazing to watch true craftsmanship.
Wranglerstar, haven't watched cable TV since I found your channel months ago. You have a lot of responsibility keeping all of us away from the garbage passing these days for entertainment by providing wholesome yet engaging viewing content. I suspect that you are up for the challenge.
No pressure at all John, huh? mrsw
:) Mrsw
Really love this axe revival series, it's cool to see its transformation through your dedication. Keep up the great videos!
Loving this video series and the new (hopefully continuing) project format you're going with. Always appreciate your music choices too
You are such a craftsman Cody--with axe handles, and equally with your video presentations.
What a fantastic video. A welcome escape from a not so fantastic world. Thumbs up from sunny Scotland
I really enjoyed watching this silent (mostly) video. Thanks much. - pierre from New Mxico -
Have you ever thought about making musical instruments?
Hey nice handle Cody, just one tip if your going to stop the cut before the end of the board slowly roll the spoke shave back whilst still cutting, this will lift the cutter out of the wood leaving a nicer surface and making complete shavings.
loved your video I don't comment much but I agree with your end card you told a wonderful story and it was very relaxing and calm. in my opinion you don't always have to be the one telling a story sometimes what your working on tells the story for us we just have to listen. and I think your granddad is watching with a big smile on his face in what you are doing with his old handle getting it back out to live another lifetime. love all the videos you do best wishes to you and your family.
wonderful work ... nice shooting ... good production ... and a test full ear in background music .... thank you for everything .... for all the calm moments you give to us
Thank you.
love these videos I'm just working on my great grandpa's old oxhead felling axe its almost done just hung the head then tung oil and paint then a final polish and sharpen... keep up the good work!
Great video!! Excellent music choices!! Nice carving on the handle.
Thank you for this comment Pam.
Great job on this video wranglerstar really appreciate you making such great content
What a beautiful little axe, wonderful series, I'd love to work on one myself, if I ever come across one, I will buy it whatever the price. Keep it up.
I truly enjoy the now and then silent work.
The most enjoyable video I have watched in a long time. Not taking away from your other videos, I love those too!! But thanks man, can't wait for more!!!!!
Great video as allways! The sound theme as well, just the right thing before goin' to sleep. Best regards from Europe.
love me some sturgill simpson. yall dona great job. homesteading is becoming more and more mainstream and i think you all present it well.
Thank you Andrew.
Thanks for this video. Great way for me to end the night. Love the music selection.
A very enjoyable video and very relaxing, thank you Sir, much love and respect to you and your family
You're voise is superly suited for audio books. It is so calm and warm.
This makes one of my top 10 favorite Wranglerstar Videos.
No words necessary. Thank you for bringing us along.
congratulations! 400,000 subs is awesome! 400,000 views in 24 hours, that's huge! it's been pretty cool to watch the wranglerstar brand, if you will, grow to what it is today. Thanks for all of the great content! it means so much, to so many of us! can't wait to see what the future holds
It's such a pleasure spending time with you in these videos, really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and lives with us
England has been cold and wet too. But now it's HOT . Enjoy your new drone and the gentle summer.
pretty cool video, I enjoy watching your wood working and axe vids. look forward to seeing you finish this little axe.
