My grandfather had one back in the Good Ole days we used as a hay truck it had no doors and a granny gear that we used to throw hay on the trailer. We would drop in the GG and jump out and throw hay!!! He would have LOVED one of yours!!! A Masterpiece - Bravo!!!! I Never get bored listen/watch you talk about your masterpieces!!! #maybeoneday
I could listen to you talk about this truck for an hour. I think you have the formula down perfectly such as none of the obnoxious music instead of hearing the engine and exhaust. I look forward to your next video :)
Vid quality is perfect for the topic, stop being critical of yourself! Amazing product, and your passion in describing the details is what makes it even better.
Melding the modern tech and performance with the classic aesthetics is about the coolest thing out there. Thank you for sharing your creations with us.
Lowey and Henry Dreyfuss were some of the most recognizable and interesting designers from the 1920's to the 60's. Have always loved their work and I thank you Mr. Ward for giving men like them the recognition they deserve. Cheers!
You guys are over the top. Impeccable work Mr. Ward. I'm young now, but one day I'd love to be able to afford an ICON restoration of my 1969 FJ40. Your vision and works are an inspiration for me. Thank you.
The GG-1 locomotive that the Pennsylvania Railroad used from the 30's to the late 70's by Amtrak. I am a retired locomotive Engineer and got to run the GG-1's the last few years they used them. Phenomenal Electric locomotives, ran on 11 KV 25 Cycle AC power, two traction motors per powered axles of which there were 6 powered. Plus two pilot trucks at each end to lead the locomotive and provided a excellent ride up to 100 mph. There are several GG-1's sitting in museums around the country including the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasberg, Pennsylvania. Just thought you'd like to know he was a prolific railroad designer.
Never get bored with you and your teams work Jonathan! I would love to see more of the build processes you guys go through, through the months of labor each of these wonderful works of art entail.
No question about it these trucks are pieces of art and Jonathan Ward it is a talented designer. I think all of his works are classics within classics.
Icon work is fantastic ... i am working to get one of your cars ... love the simple videos with tons of details ... you guys are real experts and craftmen ... about the videos : never bore and no crapies ... great new website too
I thought your concepts were cool when they were from your perspective, but even more impressive to decide on designing the Thriftmaster from the perspective of one of your idols. I love the thought that goes into your cars and trucks. No one is getting bored here.
Those that ask you "why didn't you.... " just don't get it. So far every vehicle you have done just nails it perfectly. There's nothing else needed. You create a vehicle that would stand with any production model for reliability yet still has that cool unique look.
It is SO cool what you do with these old trucks... Big Love For the Thiftmaster. ( and anything else you guys build ).. Your shop will be my FIRST stop if i ever hit the lotto ..... :)
Beautiful work as always! Love the attention to detail you have. The one thing I notice that many do with these trucks is put the gas fill in the bed. It would be nice to see it put on the outside of the bed. So that when you fill up your not dragging the hose of the rails. Also the chance of gas drops getting on the finishes.
You've got a great eye for details. Lately I've had a thing for the COEs from the 40s and 50s. After seeing what you did with this Thriftmaster, I'd love to see you resto mod a cab-over...but you might not sell to many. Keep up the good work!
Jonathon, if I were ever to win lotto you'd be getting either a phone call or email from Australia asking where to send a 1955 FJ Holden to you to have a restomod done on it. then there would be many more calls back and forth to sort out the fine details of what I would like done to it along with any of your suggestions as well. your work is outstanding and the quality of your builds are second to none. wish there was someone in Australia doing the same kind of thing. (again, if I won the lotto, lol )
It's beautiful! Typically I prefer these older trucks bone stock as my '53 3100 and would've screamed blasphemy but you Sir did an outstanding job with this one.
Well, beautiful beautiful as usual. Maybe a bit too black ? So many cars that i would love to see your magic in. An old Merc w110 wagon..with a small v8..and all your details..So many things to geek ! What european cars do you like ? Thank you for sharing
another GR8 build I don't get bored with your videos love the shots of the suspension I wish I could get you to do my 1966 International Harvester Scout
Love your work. I get it with the total restoration and the derelict updates! Keep it up! You've inspired me with my derelict. Thank you for the great video!
Love the quiet of the interior, and the wide angle shots of the road from the interior. There's so much black to the exterior until you peek at the bed, that I wonder if it would have worked to ad some of that trim on the footstep area to open up the black a bit. Marvelous idea with the windows opening with the handles....hey, nice watch in that shot at 7:55. Beware the sun on your hands over the long haul. Use the lotion. I keep watching, and you keep knocking me out...the turn signals in the rear view mirror...jeez... I wonder if you guys would like some app solely designed to make your interface more retro, like the various steampunk desktops one used to be able to throw on their system 7 Macs....
I LOVE everything I've seen Icon do. Especially your wheel/tire combos which make (or break) a vehicle. You got it nailed just about every time. One thing, that squeaky rattle when you hit a larger bump was killing me ! Bet you got it sorted out though.
I would trade my "58 Chevy pickup for this one in a heartbeat even though it's been in my family since it was new. Keep up the great work. As far as I am concerned you are one of only two people I would have build my ride if I could afford it and the other guy is Chip Foose. So yeah, in my opinion you'r work is that good. I think you might even be better than Chip Foose too. But I shudder to think what you two would produce if you worked together on a project.
I appreciate the "Zen and the Art..." approach here - inspiring with its more literary approach. It's got me thinking in a more detailed fashion about my own (lower budget) vehicle projects. The final outcome or 'blend' here seems like a spiritual endeavor, in a way. I'd be curious to know what Icon would do with my stock, unrestored '76 Vega GT Kammback Nomad.
Which Alpine unit is this? I'd love to hear what you find about any others you try. On my '56 Chevy I'm just doing a dirt simple amp with no head unit. So just using the iPhone for all playback and control. You have to have the iPhone visible, but it's better than having a completely extraneous extra piece of hardware.
I like the paint, this time and modern seat belts. Is this when you started using the Lizards. Very pretty I don't think I'd be running out to get a load of sand , gravel , or even a cord of firewood in it.
Just love your products, wish I could afford them! Alcantara seems delicate for this style vehicle, and gas filler in the bed seems counter to the simple and functional theme (because cargo would cover it and drips stain the pretty wood). Just 2 cents!
Love this truck. Watched both video about a 20 times each. I am wondering why you made the decision not to use the ISIS harness on this truck? I am wondering if it wasn't reliable so you went back to a standard harness?
The interior squeaks and rattles is unbecoming of a $200K vehicle. If I were in charge that would by my number one area of improvement. Absolutely the gold standard of custom built vehicles otherwise.
These are great looking cars, and trucks, I just found your channel yesterday and have been binge watching all of them! There's couple questions I would like to ask, how many "break in miles" do you put on them before you give them to the customer? because I know it would hard to give some of these up. The other is, are we going to see a video on the E flyer? Thanks
Ok, whats that rattle every time you hit a bump? Two more, that hood ornament appears to droop when looking straight at the front. I understand why, just the round emblem would be enough. Last, those seat tilt plate covers smoosh into the back padding on the side. Other than that, awesome truck!.
I'm not nit picking here just clarifying for the young guys watching. I don't think you were paying attention to what you meant. Vacuum wiper motors do the opposite of what you said. They actually speed up sitting at a light or when decelerating, and slow down when the engine is under load, as when taking off from a light.
You're wrong and you're right. Wrong in no the video's are not boring. Right in, yes you are betting better at them. Keep'em coming. Love those old Chevy trucks. Could you find a manual three speed that might handle the power from the motor? A three on the tree would add a nice touch.
No Jonathan, we don't get bored of these long and detailed videos.
OzcarMtl - couldn't agree more! When I win the lottery, I'm totally commissioning a MkII Jag derelict!
ONE cannot get bored listening... your details amazing... 1.5 cents
FRANCEE
Love that leather on this truck. Looks like dinosaur skin. Love it.
My grandfather had one back in the Good Ole days we used as a hay truck it had no doors and a granny gear that we used to throw hay on the trailer. These are the most beautiful trucks in the world. Incredible. Bravo Icon!
You nailed it. Loewy would be proud. I'm a fan of both of you. This is a piece of art.
Really living legend....man I miss those....grandpa 's truck...lots of smoke...now its a clean mean machine.....real good job buddy.
Lowey and Henry Dreyfuss were some of the most recognizable and interesting designers from the 1920's to the 60's. Have always loved their work and I thank you Mr. Ward for giving men like them the recognition they deserve. Cheers!

1st time viewer! Amazing truck...I just uncovered a 1949 GMC 250 in my in-laws woods! You have me dreaming way too much!
Raymond Loewy would've been proud. You really captured his essence and design language. Great job as always Jonathan & team!

Not bored with the commentary at all. Love all the detailed information!
No question about it these trucks are pieces of art and Jonathan Ward it is a talented designer. I think all of his works are classics within classics.

Raymond Loewy DID design pickup trucks, for Studebaker, and they were absolutely gorgeous!
I thought your concepts were cool when they were from your perspective, but even more impressive to decide on designing the Thriftmaster from the perspective of one of your idols. I love the thought that goes into your cars and trucks. No one is getting bored here.
I can listen for days to this man..
Those that ask you "why didn't you.... " just don't get it. So far every vehicle you have done just nails it perfectly. There's nothing else needed. You create a vehicle that would stand with any production model for reliability yet still has that cool unique look.
Your videos are always great, never crappy or boring, thank you.
It is SO cool what you do with these old trucks... Big Love For the Thiftmaster. ( and anything else you guys build ).. Your shop will be my FIRST stop if i ever hit the lotto ..... :)
Love this truck. Will be calling.
Nice as usual!.....................How can I ever look at my truck the same way again!
Excellent work, don't be critic with yourself.... Thank you for all the tips you have provide.
I could watch hours about each vehicle build. Thanks for doing them and keep them coming. Great stuff, love your vision for these old trucks.
You've got a great eye for details. Lately I've had a thing for the COEs from the 40s and 50s. After seeing what you did with this Thriftmaster, I'd love to see you resto mod a cab-over...but you might not sell to many. Keep up the good work!
drool-worthy! i want. thanks for the effort and the sharing. BIG thumbs up.

Awesome video ! WOW! Attention to detail, creativity is off the hook.
Never bored of your videos
It's beautiful! Typically I prefer these older trucks bone stock as my '53 3100 and would've screamed blasphemy but you Sir did an outstanding job with this one.
Stunning truck.
Someday...
Best product so far. Also not that badly designed big box between the seats that other cars usually have.
Great build and video Jonathon. Great work as usual.
Well, beautiful beautiful as usual. Maybe a bit too black ?
So many cars that i would love to see your magic in.

Truck erotica for the discerning.

Exellent interior design engineering, looks art deco.
these trucks are so beautiful...classic vehicles are the best
I'd like to see this truck today and see how it's worn and lessons learned.
That's beautiful work and craftsmanship.
I'd love to drop my ragged but loved 88 GMC Sierror long bed off at your shop one day. Lord knows, she's earned it.
I watch this every night! I want one! You're such a perfectionist! And my God I love it every time I watch it!
Your Thriftmasters are works of art!
When I win the lottery I'm going straight to Mr. Ward
+Barry Martin we share the same dream
+Barry Martin °No need to lottery- just work!!!!
+Barry Martin Me too. I got a 68 Dodge D200 sitting in my back yard....
Fuck the lottery...I'm going to ruin my credit and possibly risk foreclosing my home to have one of these masterpieces!
lol il maybe try your way
Absolute beauty.. and I second the 49 Mercury as a next project. Love these cars, hope to own one some day ;)
Love your products and the geek out videos!
I LOVE everything I've seen Icon do. Especially your wheel/tire combos which make (or break) a vehicle. You got it nailed just about every time. One thing, that squeaky rattle when you hit a larger bump was killing me ! Bet you got it sorted out though.
absolutely love your videos... it's really making me think outside the box on some of the things I put together on my project.
You can talk all day. I could listen all day. love your wotk
This truck is just beautiful absolutely stunning it's given me a few ideas for my 47 international
I would trade my "58 Chevy pickup for this one in a heartbeat even though it's been in my family since it was new. Keep up the great work. Another great truck
I like the school bus wheel and bench seat.
Its a great truck, however the Thriftmaster is beyond my means. You have a wonderful eye for design.Neat watch.
What finish was the bed done in? You mentioned that it was marine grade, but not the product. Looks fantastic.
I like the paint, this time and modern seat belts. Is this when you started using the Lizards. Very pretty I don't think I'd be running out to get a load of sand , gravel , or even a cord of firewood in it.
This truck would look great in my driveway
Just love your products, wish I could afford them! Alcantara seems delicate for this style vehicle, and gas filler in the bed seems counter to the simple and functional theme (because cargo would cover it and drips stain the pretty wood). Just 2 cents!
Ohhh, something you just said "clarity of purpose and utility"... I like that.
The Thriftmaster's you build just scream "quiet elegance".
LOVE the details. Your brain thinks like my brain. Incredible work
Very nice truck
I always watch to the end. Excellent work as always.
+Mike M Jensen ditto Lol
Just saw TR #2 video again Just awesome!!!!!!!
You guys should sell t-shirts that say "Copious Amounts of Dynamat." It's sort of your unofficial slogan.
Along with Art Morrison chassis, and GM LS engine...
Love this truck. Watched both video about a 20 times each. I am wondering why you made the decision not to use the ISIS harness on this truck? I am wondering if it wasn't reliable so you went back to a standard harness?
Throw some more before & after shots and a few more, as being built shots. P
How much do these trucks sell for one when you're done building it
Always a pleasure.
LOVE YOUR APPROACH , GREAT PRODUCTS, GREAT VIDEOS!
The interior squeaks and rattles is unbecoming of a $200K vehicle. If I were in charge that would by my number one area of improvement. Absolutely the gold standard of custom built vehicles otherwise.
"Strong, simple, and cheap", just how I like my women! Love ICON's derelicts!
I'm warming up to the cats too. At some point we should at least think about "OUR" environment.
I would trust you to do a 57 El Camino. I haven't seen a correct one yet.

Love the geeky details.... I'd like to see how you do the Dynamat sometime...
I like your work...I wouldn't choose that paint as a customer.
Ok, whats that rattle every time you hit a bump? Two more, that hood ornament appears to droop when looking straight at the front.
I understand why, just the round emblem would be enough.
Last, those seat tilt plate covers smoosh into the back padding on the side.

Another master piece!
Loved seeing the Icons at Goodwood Revival this year. Would have been better with this there
Amazing truck Jonathan! Love your work.
Excellent video and quality. Set up a Boston office and I will work with you :)
To Jonathan Your workmanship Is outstanding , I feel you shop would do a great job building NASA next space shuttle .. Pete M
This is my favorite car you have done thus far.
Amazing work, and such an informative video
for the bed rail, is that roll enclosed? or is it as stock, open to the elements? Mine used to get rusty up in there where snow and salt like to hide.
+Jonathan Ward thanks

Nice truck, but we can hear a lot of rattling and squeaking while you’re driving. Still awesome truck
I love your trucks and hope to own one someday.I only hope I can still drive.
You're wrong and you're right. Wrong in no the video's are not boring. Right in, yes you are betting better at them. Keep'em coming.
