I love Seoul and Korea so much, which is why I have been here for 14 years and will probably live here much longer! Is it a place where you could live?!
Me too! I immigrated to US at age 11 came back at 32 and been back for more than 30 yrs ~ something about Korea's efficiency, convinience, safety, high quality of things being done and public sentiment keeping people's rights ~ all people .. it feels just so cozy ~
I'm somewhat similar, I am from USA having come to Korea intending to live here for just one year, but I've ended up living here for 17 years now. And I want to continue living in Korea in the future. With Korean culture and K-pop becoming famous lately, many foreigners have become interested in Korea. Consequently, you often see comments from foreigners who have never been to Korea, judging Korea based on their own standards and even portraying Koreans negatively. It's as if their own country is perfect. I've lived in the USA, Japan, and Korea, and Korea was the safest, most enjoyable, and fun country for me. People who judge Korea simply based on what they see in K-dramas, making various evaluations about Korea without visiting, remind me of how Koreans might judge the USA after watching American dramas-thinking everyone in America carries guns, does drugs, and might get shot at school, which is absurd. One unique aspect of Korea is that Koreans don't hide their flaws and even include them in dramas for the whole world to see. They bring out even the darkest parts of history and turn them into movies. There aren't many countries with such freedom. I think if anyone wants to live in Korea, they need to respect Korea and make an effort to learn Korean. I enjoy watching your videos. :)
maybe they only bring out parts that are made to look _as if_ they were "dark" parts (school bullying? lol bullying severity and case counts are laughably low, those bully 참교육/사적 제재/private enforcement are pornographies and fantasies for Koreans to jerk off of, petting oneself on the back for taking care in such imminent issues. but yeah, Korea's not the only convict for doing similar acts, so it's no big deal, in context.) so that they can get praise for it, while hiding the truly dark parts. nah, I don't want to be too negative, I'll just leave my rant midway.
Hey, thanks for supporting and for sharing the wealth of your knowledge! It was definitely interesting and fun to read! I hope you will share more of your experiences in future videos:)

@@tntreactions However, you need to drive to get to Walmart... In Korea, convenience stores are everywhere, and it's safe to walk to one even at 3 AM..🥲 (and...I'm in the U.S.)
Been to Seoul twice, and always felt more at home there than in the states. Particularly for a woman, the safety of the country is so liberating. My daughter and I could take leisurely strolls at night, leave our purses unattended at restaurant tables, ride the subways without fear or disgust from some incident occurring. Oh, and everything's sparkling clean there, too (with the exception of a couple of party neighborhoods at night, but they're immaculate again by 8:00 a.m.). Koreans pick up after themselves, maintain spotless public bathrooms, emanate quiet and calmness, and prioritize outdoor beautification. All this in a city of now 10 million residents who know how to conduct themselves properly, take pride in their surroundings, and respect others. Cultural shock only set in upon my return to the states, where during our drive home, we encountered trashed streets, beggars, homelessness, graffiti, and wondered where America went wrong.
I concur. When I returned to the States and saw potholes everywhere and just a state of disrepair in the city, I couldn't wait to jump on the plane and return to Korea.
I visited for 6 weeks and drove through Manhattan when I landed in JFK. I thought the same thing, I saw garbage everywhere , homeless people acting crazy, there was no calmness.
Korea is just super pleasant, affordable, and convenient to live in. This is the reason why I have stayed for so long and why I will be here for much longer. Is it a country where you could live?!
Hi Francois! I’m Korean living in the States. While I agree with everything, I think you and the guests in this video are somewhat shielded from many negative aspects of Korean society because you all are “foreigners”. Korea being a homogeneous country, different standards and treatments apply to non-Koreans. Therefore the “foreigners” don’t experience many negative aspects like ageism, sexism, social pressures, and etc. 😅
Decided to move to Seoul 4 months ago, after many trips here from the US. The convenience (and yeah, the food 😅) just does it for me! Enjoyed the thoughtful video - well said!
I subscribed today. I am a Korean American. You seem gentle, well mannered, well educated, logical, and smart person. The way you described about Korea and Korean people was thoughtful and well said. I agree with your thought about Korea. I miss everything about living in Korea. Thank you.
Wow....this message touches my heart. Thank you for taking time to type your words into feelings:) Maybe you can return for a visit:) and it is my absolute pleasure:)

I agree as a fellow Korean. We're sorry if foreigners feel less hospitality than we hope, but we're doing our best within the limits of our culture and awareness. but we all genuinely hope they will enjoy life living in Korea.
Hello Francois, your video popped up on my feed today and I enjoyed your perspective on living in Korea. As a Korean-American living in SoCal for the last 50 years, I can you tell you that my dream is to live in Korea once I retire. American Dream is no longer attainable for vast majority of the populace and the cost of living is and will continue to spiral out of control here. I wish you much success in all your endeavors and continue being positive in your outlook, godspeed.
I've heard about life in SoCal...I hope you come back soon and live in peace before prices begin to spiral out of control here as well...thank you so much for the comment:)
there are good and bad in all countries. The living in Korea is very convenient because you can find almost everything that you need in a walking distance. Also, it is very safe. and most of Koreans are kind to the foreigners.
Koreans are more friendly to foreigners than other countries are to Asians. For example in Europe, no one is friendly to Asians. No one is eager to help. In Korea I was trying to lug my luggage up the stairs in the Metro and this random guy just lifted it up for me without me asking for help. Just nice. Of course not everyone but more people are willing to help in my personal experience.
I'm Korean and we have things that we really don't like but in terms of public services such as transportation and health care I think our government use our tax really good. Basically government pays half of our public transportation and we pay some (not that much) for our health care tax and our medical service is one of the best in the world and we pay like 3 dollars when we go to hospital for small things and when you get like serious problem such as cancer heart attack etc, your hospital bill which is already cheap compare to the rest of the world reduce down to 10 percent. Government pays 90 percent of the hospital bill for the serious problems. I remember I broke my arm in US and my bill came down to 9 thousand dollars and Thank GOD I had a travelers insurance.
Right, no country is perfect, but I do think the Korean government at least does a great job on transportation and medical insurance. That is amazing about Korea. I'm sorry for your injury, but thank goodness it happened in Korea!!!!
Your love affair with Korea is truly undeniable at this point I see how something that started as just something you wish to try, became a profound understanding and love of such a country. I can't deny about the comforts and the convenience of so many things in Korea. All Koreans I know always say that they are very impatient people in such a way that they like things to be done and delivered quickly. The ppali-ppali culture really is very Korean! Thanks for sharing your story, Francois! I'm glad you found home and happiness in Asia through Korea.
I really can't leave the country...visiting other countries is amazing, but Korea is home. The convenience, comfort, people treating me well, safety...I just love it. Thank you for listening to my story and supporting, bro!!!
You have a generous spirit and Korea is fortunate to have you. You get back what you put out into the world and people will treat you in accordance with how you treat them. There is much negativity about Korea from those who assess the country comparing it to where they are from, not bothering to learn the language nor Korean history. That Koreans were not allowed to travel abroad until the late eighties, that Korea was occupied by Japan, that Korea was, not too long ago, one of the poorest countries in the world. I thank you for not going down that path of negativity travelled by some foreigners. You offer another perspective. Wish you continued happiness in Korea. I plan to journey back there soon after being away 50 years. You are helping me see my own homeland through another lens and that is a very good thing.
I lived in Seoul in 1982 and 83. Was incredible! Back when it jad so much more charm and authenticity. Nice now but not the same. It was truly an adventure back then
Do not bring the problems plaguing your home country into Korea. Korea has enough of their own problems. Francois is a great example of how to live in Korea long-term done right. 👍
Yes! Like the saying goes, wherever you go, there you are. Do not bring them to Korea! If you come, come to help. Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, as always!!

Korean American here. I was born and raised in Los Angeles but have been living in Korea for the past 11 years now. Originally a 3 month visit turned into 11 years. Agree with all your points but wanted to add that not needing a car saves you so much money in Korea. In CA, cost of vehicle, the insurance, maintenance, gas, that alone saves you so much money. My rent is also about $600/month for a 400 square foot studio. Good luck finding something like that in CA.
@@Mr2Reviews Don’t forget parking. I don’t know what it costs on Seoul, but it’s crazy high in downtown Toronto. With the amount of expensive gas you waste sitting in traffic even people with cars often use the subway or Go train to go downtown.
You make a good case to move to Korea... Just the healthcare and safety is enough; the rest were just icing on the cake! Here the cost of living is high but we get very little in return...
As you said, those two are enough. I recently got sick before taking my trip. I knew I needed to go to the doctor, so I get well fast before getting on the plane. I had no fear at all about the consultation lrice or the prescription price. I just went. That's how it should be for everyone wherever they live. The rest truly is the icing on the cake. Thanks so much, B!!!
Wow, I can’t believe all the walking you did! I know you’re a walker, but you made me forget how hot it is there now! Anyway, thanks for the reminders (as if I needed any!) of why I’m so happy that I’ll be there in less than three weeks. Yippee!
I walk at least 20k steps a day hahaha. I'm moving hahaha. You will love it there! Just don't forget the sweat towel hahah. I guarantee you'll need it!! Happy travels and welcome to Korea!
Korea is a nicer place because enough Korean make it that way. There is nothing that special about Korea in terms of natural resources, but it boils down to the people living here. I wish every country could make their own country as nice as Korea if not nicer. Why not?
Try telling that to the deep state running my country! They've let 20 million illegals in over the past three years, who have wreaked havoc throughout the country, from rape, robbery, to human and drug trafficking. You name it!
Thanks, ma!!! It's really improving well! Korea is a wonderful place to live. There are issues here, but in my opinion, as a foreigner living in a bubble, certain issues are worth dealing with:) Thanks for supporting me always!!! Love you!♡♡♡♡
As a Korean person, I really wish Korea becomes more open minded country for people from different places. Foreigners also should respect Korean culture as well unlike immigration of Europe.
I am born and raised in Korea but I've lived in the States since I turned 18 in 2017.. Korea is really nice and safe and everything is convenient. But tbh now I am more comfortable living here without worrying about being judged by people. And the people are more friendly imo, especially strangers, which makes it way easier to make friends. Most importantly my life is here now. Every country has pros and cons I guess. Great insights!
If no guns and cctv camera makes Korea so safe and pleasant than China should be heaven as they have 10x the cctv with facial recognition in some cases.
Love your channel💟 I am debating between Korea and Japan. I will be 38 years old when I will move there next year. As non-native english speaker would it be hard to find a job in Korea besides factory jobs? Also I've heard about ageism. Like they don't like hiring people after 35 years old and especially females. Is that true? Korea is so heartwarming but Japan is also beautiful and peaceful and visa situation is easier in Japan vs Korea for foreigners?
For blue-collar jobs, such as working in factories or serving in restaurants, wages and health insurance for foreigners are better in Korea than in Japan (in fact, many foreigners move from Japan to Korea as blue-collar workers because of this difference). But if you want a white-collar job, go to Japan, where it's easier to get a white-collar job. In Korea, it's hard to get a good white-collar job, even for Koreans.
Also, white-collar labour intensity in Japan is much lower than in Korea, so if you're looking for a more relaxed workload than money, Japan is a particularly good place to go.
Hello, and thank you so much for supporting our channel:) I am not sure about jobs for non-native English speakers, but I do have friends who I could ask. If you have more specific questions, please message me on Instagram and I will ask my friends for information to give to you. Thank you so much!:)

I am thinking of moving to Korea when I retire in 10 years. I am praying it will be the same when I am able to move. Never been, but K-pop and K-drama's and the food got me interested in the Korean culture and life. And I spend a lot of time watching videos such as yours to get as much "real life" information as I can. Because I do realize life will not be like a K-drama just because I move there. Have you ever thought of doing a video about some of the things that might be a reason NOT to move to Korea, or maybe just some drawbacks to living there if you are used to the US culture?Other than the price of fruit and possibly housing, no one seems to have anything negative to say about living in Korea. But I do realize no place is perfect and would appreciate maybe knowing what some of the drawbacks are, or just some things to get used to. I did enjoy the content so thank you for the information!!
Hey!! That's actually a good idea for a video! I'll add it to the mix! Thanks a lot for watching, and I'm happy you got some value from my content. If you come to Korea to retire, bring a lot of money, unless you retire in the countryside. Seoul is EXPENSIVE:)

The wealth and resources are plentiful for all human being. It is not zerosum game when people live in harmony and synergy. I don't think Korea is anywhere near perfect in wealth distribution but at least I personally believe that every human-being is born to realize his/her dreams and while doing so under collective mindset that everyone else's success is my success, we create wealth and beauty plentiful for everybody.
When stagnant, there's no struggle. Only when someone starts to try to achieve something, conflicts ensue. However, that's the conflicts that need to be overcome to reach the goal. That's where the lives of earth collide. That's why we need to choose lights even in our thought processes to avoid being engulfed by the void/darkness like greed, anger and stupidity. That is the key to create a bright society I think.
Some negatives about living in Korea generally. The weather is absolutely horrible. The summers are 90 degrees plus everyday and extremely humid. It’s a stifling type heat and it lasts through September. Take a shower and you’re sweating before you even leave the house. Take a short walk and your socks are wet from sweat. It’s awful. Another thing I’ve had issues with is food sanitation. I’ve gotten food poisoning here at least ten-twenty times in many years of living here. I never got food poisoning in the United States. Also skunked beer haha. Small complaint. Beer is often skunked. Jobs don’t typically pay much but expect you to bust your ass. There also aren’t many things you can do as a foreigner. Teach English or work in a factory. Korean culture is exhausting in some ways. Way more nitpicky and judgmental than America. Some positives. Excellent infrastructure and transportation. Way more beautiful women. Like 100 times more. Cost of living is less. Good food. Also, low taxes so despite the low salaries you take more of your pay home. It’s also a very safe country. I’ve never had an issue in 15 years. I lived in NYC for 6 months in 2002 and I was mugged twice at knifepoint. This is after 15 years living here and married. Overall great country. Just wanted to list some positives and negatives for those that have never been here.

Just my 2 cents but I think S. Korea being a predominantly mono-cultural society, it allowed them to pursue a purer form of meritocracy in comparison to the rest of the world. They're not hindered as much by racial or religious division, or any other form of identity politics. I'm not saying discrimination doesn't exist in Korea; it just doesn't get in the way of getting things done efficiently as possible as much. That ultra competitiveness (from meritocracy) combined with a strict enforcement of rule of law, is what gave way to the environment that you enjoy now. A safe environment with a low cost of living.
I think you have a point. I am Korean American and I never thought about that. There were no racial or religious clashes that occurs in some countries.
@@justlim622 I'm Korean American as well. It's not just the lack of identity politics and friction, but native Koreans just value meritocracy and group/teamwork conformity more. While in America, there's been a growing culture of embracing victim-hood and this movement away from meritocracy. We're not hiring based competency and qualifications as much in the U.S., and putting more priority on various identity groups. When you're not hiring the best and brightest, the work suffers. This in turn results in more mistakes, project delays, work that has to be redone etc., which ultimately result in higher costs to consumers.
I don't think it's that simple. There are many mono-cultural nations in Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America but do not have the level of infrastructure, technological advancements, and modern urban conveniences as South Korea. The Korean people united under a unified cause to build their war-torn country and used every capacity to sacrifice self and build a stronger nation for their future posterity
Korea's legal working hours are the same as 40 hours in the U.S. The numerous prejudices against Korea are just those spread by Western and other countries because they do not want to recognize Korea. Everything from Korean history to education is different from what you know. Unfortunately, however, even Koreans believe such false prejudices. We have open minds and opportunities for everyone around the world, but unfortunately our kindness won't last long because of the world's hostility toward us

Hey Francois, loved your video. If I had to take a guess on why so many stores or people in general are so generous to you, I think it may be because when they see you, a tall young Black American with good physique, they automatically assume that you are US military.

experienced before. They earn more than a full year's income in their country by working in Korea for two months.

there are good and bad in all countries. The living in Korea is very convenient because you can find almost everything that you need in a walking distance. Also, it is very safe. and most of Koreans are kind to the foreigners.
I agree! Every country has good and bad. Korean life convenience is top notch and the people are always friendly to me:)

Exactly! No car is needed at all! Expenses would mount exponentially...One of the main reasons why I love Seoul. Thanks for that:)
Korea is a nicer place because enough Korean make it that way. There is nothing that special about Korea in terms of natural resources, but it boils down to the people living here. I wish every country could make their own country as nice as Korea if not nicer. Why not?

Yoo, there is a lot of value in this comment. I appreciate your time amd support:)
This is a great comment! Wish other countries were like this. I miss living in Korea.
11:45 😂😂😂🤣🤣
Looks like someone is a star!!! Lol
America loves Korea more than Japan 😍
US❤KR
♡♡♡
Japan, Korea, Taiwan are high trust societies with homogeneous population.
I concur!
일본은 제외 반성 할줄 모르는 파렴치한들임..!ㅋ
Korea's legal working hours are the same as 40 hours in the U.S. The numerous prejudices against Korea are just those spread by Western and other countries because they do not want to recognize Korea. Everything from Korean history to education is different from what you know. Unfortunately, however, even Koreans believe such false prejudices. We have open minds and opportunities for everyone around the world, but unfortunately our kindness won't last long because of the world's hostility toward us
I’m Korean, born and raised in the US. Every day I am getting closer to moving to Korea. I’m in my early 40s now and my only absolute concern is the job market. I can speak Korean enough and obviously fluent in English. But I just don’t know how far that can get me. It’s my biggest fear.
I think you will be able to find a job here no problem. You speak Korean and English fluently...many Korean-Americans return to Korea and go into entertainment or education. There is definitely a market for you!!!
not seen guns on a regular police officer. at the airport i remember seeing assault rifles once. maybe it was just that particular day? didn't bother me though. i used to have one myself.
You had a gun?! Woah! How did having a gun make you feel??
@@francoismarc3 how did it make me feel? i had a semi auto rifle and a .44 mag. did it empower me? no. i did not wave them around or anything like that but i liked taking them to the range.
@@francoismarc3 btw, i grew up in the 70's in nyc. guns were even a thing there - not just texas lol
한국관광공사는 이 사람한테 홍보비 줘야 된다
그렇게 만족하다니 한국인으로 감사하게 생각합니다
The Korea Tourism Organization should pay him for publicity
I'm grateful to be Korean for being so happy.
Wow, this is a compliment! Thank you so much for your kind words!! Appreciate you!:)
당신의 한국 생활이 기대 됩니다. 정말 자세하고 재밌게 설명해줍니다.
Thank you so much!! Your support means a lot to me:)
❤❤❤
♡♡♡ Thank you so much:)
getting an apartment in seoul is 1 million dollars. If you teach english in the country and make a decent living. You can enjoy the government controlled prices for taxi, subway, trains to party like this. If you want to get married and have a family or want to increase your standard of living every year with effort/education US is waaaaaaaaay better.
Daily gun violence, drug and crime is so rampant in US, you calls standard of living is better in US lol?
*Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting-- 12/14/ 2012
killed 26 people. 20 of the victims were children between six and seven years old,
*Texas shooting: 19 children among dead in primary school attack--2023
*6 Killed in Nashville School Shooting, Including 3 Children---3/ 27/ 2023
Possibly! But there are some big tradeoffs for cost of living, safety, and convenience!
서울은 굉장히 큰 도시다. 서울안에서도 비싸지 않은 집도 구할수있다. 단편적으로만 보면 안돼
you very handsome🫦
Thank you so very much:):)

Live with security cameras. Thats why safe
Do you think security cameras are the only reason why Korea is safe?
more cctv in london than in korea.
Hm I should check my angle lolllllllll👾
Hahah what you mean, lil sis?
@@francoismarc3 My pretty selfie angle lolllll
Things I love about the US: 1) Diverse culture 2)Individualism 3) History and what it stands for (at least used to). Things I don't like about the US 1) High and complicated tax 2) Healthcare 3)Safety 4) Highly polarised w everyone fighting for themselves 5) Tip culture 6) Infrastructure
There's always good and bad with everything:)
@@francoismarc3 very true, everywhere. Just hope the good ourweighs the bad. That said after living out of US for a decade plus, I am saddened by current state. And just cant get used to the tip culture. It's gone crazy
Korea is good to live ...if you have enough money...😊😊😊just kidding
Hahahah I've heard that before! Lol

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ thanks for the comment lol
French have to learn how to be modest, humble, considerate before wanting to catch up to modern 21st century life style. Soooo disappointed watching the Olympic opening ceremony and etc…. And nobody is responsible. Just kept on saying it’s good it’s good. It will be ok. We will improvise. I guess they are still in the meeting to solve the problem. Hahahahaha.
Hahahha thanks for sharing your opinion lol
No offense but when you have high expectation for something and the outcome is totally the opposite, I guess the disappointment and the hurt from it hits you harder. Hoping we could all get along for happier life instead of hateful, full of jealousy, kind of life. Have a great day my friend.
korea is not a country easy to immigrant,i heard It cost million dollars to immigrant, that is impossible thing to regular peoples
It is not easy at all. I have a Korea visa, so I believe I am very, very lucky. Thank you for this comment!!
You don’t need that much money.
이민조건이 쉬워지면 순식간에 나라가 엉망이 된다...
이민 미국도 어려워.
Hey Francois, loved your video. If I had to take a guess on why so many stores or people in general are so generous to you, I think it may be because when they see you, a tall young Black American with good physique, they automatically assume that you are US military. Obviously because of historical reasons, lots of Koreans are eternally grateful and respectful towards US troops in Korea. Or maybe I'm wrong and they just really like you? Who knows.. but that's just my guess!
Hey!! Both options sound positive, so can't go wrong either way lol. I really appreciate your comment and the support:)
