@@HilarieBurhans just finished the episode Hilarie and wow the song gave me a tear in the eye as it made me reminisce my youthful days roaming and running around with my brother in Elgin, texas thank you for such a beautiful sound
Please see David Lindley's superb version of this song here on RUclips, and notice his revised lyrics that allow our pretty Polly to finally, after like 300 years, get the upper hand on ol' Willy. It goes like this... There's no time to talk and there's no time to stand He drew out his dagger oh with his right hand She pulled out her razor in the blink of an eye She said no my poor Willy it's you who must die With a motion so quick that no shadow was made She cut him ear to ear with the flash of her blade He lay in her grave the rest of the night He laid in her grave all the next day For leading our dear pretty Polly astray
Interestingly, the tune of "Pretty Polly" was used for Woody Guthrie's "Pastures of Plenty" and Dylan's "Hollis Brown". Three songs for the price of one!
Thank you for the vid. I am a beginner and appreciate your playing and teaching. I have a question about fingering the notes instead of chord positions. Does this just come from experience in knowing what notes can be left out? Or is there a way to learn how to play without forming chord shapes? Thanks, Rick
Thank you for taking the time to help us beginners. Been home with a cold and learned your version on Pretty Polly. I love your rendition of Flippin Jenny. Have you taught this before or is there a tab somewhere? Great duo with clawhammer & fiddle. Thanks again
Deadwood brought me here. Fantastic version.
Thank you, Jason!
@@HilarieBurhans Yr welcome, what's the tuning?

Nice video.. I've alway was struggled to learn from videos alone though sadly. Do you write down tabs alongside your videos?
